Great job Pete! I grew up in the 1970s and Wings was one of my favorite bands. I remember riding my bicycle several miles to the nearest town to buy "Back To The Egg" on the day it was released. I would rate BTTE as my third favorite after BOTR and V&M. I also have a fondness for Red Rose Speedway. Not a huge fan of Speed Of Sound but it does have the underrated "Beware My Love". After your video, I need to dig out my vinyl copies of Wings Over America and BTTE to play in my home office tomorrow!

All I know is I Wish with all my might that you were my cousin, who's also called Peter Fitzpatrick. He's was a pilot during his prime but probably is retired by now. I heard he/they were last known to reside in France. I only met him once, many years ago, and I'm so sad I lost contact with him. Now that I'm not 20 anymore, my values are completely different than as that eternal 'teenager' I thought I'd always be. Getting older and losing even older loved-ones; my biggest regret is that I didn't make a diligent effort to keep All Family Members close, and not just in my heart. The fact that my lovely parents were always there to maintain relationships with all of our British Family Members (and I just latched-on when applicable) makes me feel sheepish I've done some things wrong. Stay close to those you care about; and know that feelings can change in time. Try to love All your family! Oh, yeah, Paul's not too bad lol. Actually my admiration for him grows with time. I was interested in your opinion of their albums, so I'm here. But I have to listen again because I spent too much time making a silly comment that won't amount to anything. I ❤️Wings; especially their live shows from the 70's-fantastic! I've watched and listened to them here on KZbin in the last year more than I ever did in all my teen years put together. 'Twas because my old friend used to Only listen to Wings...for 15 years straight! As a 10 year old - till we were 25, Wings were the background noise whenever I was in Carolyn's presence. It was my great loss that I came to appreciate Wings later than I could have. The worst part of it is that my dearest friend and I never got to share that bond when you both Love Love Love the same band at the same time. She died way before her time. That's another loved-one who's left us in deep physical pain due to her vanishing from our daily lives. So, there's Wings and more Wings and other artists to help keep us alive.

"Silly Love Songs" was inspired by John Lennon when he was complaining to Paul saying that all he writes is silly love songs and not songs of importance.. John usually wrote more trouble making political type songs.. "Give Peace A Chance".. Which we should.. 😎👍 Another interesting fact is that The Ramones got their name from Paul McCartney.. 😀 Dee Dee was a big Paul McCartney fan and he knew that when Paul signed into hotels he used the surname "Ramone".. 😀 Paul Ramone.. Thus the band called "The Ramones" came about! All using the surname "Ramone".. 😀👍 Dee Dee Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Tommy Ramone.. Marky Ramone.. C.J. Ramone.. Richie Ramone.. And Joey Ramone.. If you became a Ramone member at any point your surname was "Ramone" and it's all thanks to Paul McCartney who puts on one heck of a show to this day without backtracking.. Long live rOcK and Paul McCartney.. 😀👍

Lol, I thought I was the only one who experienced the little "skip" memory when you first heard a favorite song on compact disc. I had Peter Gabriel's "So" on cassette and in the middle of "Sledgehammer" my cassette copy had a slight fade out from it getting scrunched in my walkman. When I finally bought "So" on compact disc, it was sooooo weird hearing that song in such pristine condition! (lol)
@KevinOrtega19804 жыл бұрын
mano1971music That was the same for me when I had Helloween’s Keeper of the Seven Keys pt 2 on cassette. When the solo would go down there was a tiny fade or scrunch sound for whatever reason, then when I bought the cd and downloaded the song, I was half expecting it to happen again, but of course I know it wasn’t. But because I’ve heard that song a million times, sometimes that little part will replay in my mind that way when the solo happens

Venus and Mars is by far my favorite Wings album, followed by Back to the Egg and Band on the Run. I don't think those three albums have a bad song on them. The list of songs off these three albums I consider my most favorite of Paul McCartney is too long to list here. Wild Life and At the Speed of Sound are at the bottom. Even though I rank Let 'Em In, Silly Love Songs and Beware My Love among my most favorite from Paul McCartney I find the rest of the album somewhat weak. Good morning Pete. You're mentioning having albums that skip in a specific place and then how odd it was to hear them on CD without the skipping. It's so good to hear someone being positive about Back to the Egg. Everyone seems to hate this album - but I love it! "Spin It On" is McCartney's best rock out since "Helter Skelter." "Winter Rose" is a beautiful love song. "Old Siam Sir" has a killer riff. "Again and Again and Again" showed Denny Laine was no slouch at writing songs. For me, the only disappointment was the "Rockestra Theme." With that much talent in the room, it would have been nice to hear them tackle something more complex. But it's a thoroughly enjoyable album. I'm glad someone else thinks so too. Great video as always, Pete.
@duncandavies19664 жыл бұрын
Re: Rockestra, with that many musicians something complex wouldn't work, it had to be a simple melody. I think it works pretty well, and is rollicking good fun. The melody *is* slight, but as Paul usually does, extracts the max out of it. The vocal "why haven't I had any dinner" always amuses me.

Your segment about vinyl albums skipping at the same time every time rings so true. For me it was the Rush album Permanent Waves and the song The Spirit of Radio. When it got to this section: *"One likes to believe in the freedom of music* *But glittering prizes and endless compromises* *Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah"* On my record player it always skipped the word "music". How ironic is that? So when I bought the album on CD and it didn't skip it was a bit weird. Go figure ;-)

Had the same "skipping issue" with KISS Dynasty when it was first released during the beginning of I Was Made For Loving You. Brought it back to my local record shop 3x before I caved in and executed the ole "penny on the needle trick" to weigh it down. Crossed my fingers, prayed it worked and it did!

Saw the wings over America tour when it came to Wembley I still remember the screaming girls (and some boys)! No mention of the crossroads theme then lol! Never had any luck finding London town on cd though ☹️

I've passed the whole summer of 2022 listening to Wings. Time well spent, great group. 1. Red Rose Speedway (the medley makes this album the best Wings album; such a shame it came out as a single album. The tracks on the Archive Collection are great. Who knows what a great double album could have been) 2. Band on the Run (perfect run, except for Mamunia) 3. London Town (a great LP, Morse Moose is my favourite Wings track, strangely proggy for a Macca song) 4. Venus and Mars (great numbers like Rock Show, Magneto and Titanium Man, Letting Go...) 5. Wings at the Speed of Sound (this contains my third Wings favourite song, Time to Hide, Denny Laine is on fire, what a harmonic solo) 6. Wild Life (pretty good, underrated numbers like Mumbo, Bip Bop and Some People Never Know) 7. Back to the Egg (not a good album, at least for side two, side one is solid)

Nothing but positive memories of Wings. I was a little kid in 70s, and Wings was one of the first bands I listened to. They were my introduction to the Beatles, actually. I know a lot Beatles fans give them a bad rap, but honestly, I’ve never understood why. Paul wrote some unbelievably catchy songs, and I agree, look no further than Over America. I played that to death! Every song on there is great. And I can’t think of ‘76-‘77 radio without hearing Let ‘Em In. It seemed to always be on! And were the other Beatles doing anything better? They all had moments throughout the 70s, but none nearly as versatile or numerous as Paul.

Wings were utterly amazing, I don’t care what anyone says. Paul deserves all his accolades, and his solo career was my favorite of all The Beatles although I love them all.

Yes, the nightmare of records skipping. This happened to me with Thirty Three and a 1/3 numerous times and my first copy of Double Fantasy. 40+ years later, I read on the internet that plenty of people had the same problem with Thirty Three and 1/3.

Gotta love this one. Mine: #7 Wild life #6 Back to the Egg #5 London Town #4 Red Rose Speedway #3 Wings at the Speed of Sound #2 Band on the Run #1 Venus and Mars Btw, Joe English lives in my tiny town. Great guy. My girlfriend has met him. He stays secluded. Doesn't want fame attention.

didn't Joe do like the late Dan peek, Mark Farner for a little bit, David pack of ambrosia, John schlitt from Head East, and in a Way Kerry L from Kansas? become a born-again rocker

@@truckerkevthepaidtourist That is true. He attends a church in my town. He sings in the choir and does solo singing there. He no longer plays drums due to a foot injury back in the 90s. I called the church to ask for him, and altho I personally know the pastor, Joe still did not call me back. I don't blame him. He no longer wants to answer questions about Wings or Paul. He has left it all behind. God bless him. He truly is a great person. A little more info. When he and Jimmy quit Wings, Paul was a bit miffed and very disappointed. As Paul states, Joe and that lineup were the very best Wings ever had. Joe sings one of the songs on "Speed of Sound". After Joe quit, he started a Christian band here on the east coast, cut two albums, and he attempted to send Paul a copy of those albums to let Paul know how he was doing. But the records got returned undeliverable because Paul no longer had a residence at that address. The last time Joe heard from Paul, was just a few years ago. My lawyer attends the little church where Joe goes. My lawyer told me that Paul attempted to call Joe and congrajulate him for being inducted into Joe's home state Musician's Hall of Fame. Joe did not receive or return the call. He truly just wants all of that life left behind him. I've got to say, he is a Man of God now.

@@truckerkevthepaidtourist Spindale, NC. Btw, my gal bumped into him at our local Food Lion grocery store. She said he was very polite and gracious. She asked him no questions about Paul or Wings. She just told him she admired him and that she and I had researched him.

Wings were the band I was obsessed with growing up in the 70s and though later my taste would broaden out to many other artists etc I still play their music reasonably regularly. I'm still a massive fan Macca to this day. Pete, I was lucky enough to see Wings live in 1979 here in the UK and it was my first gig ever at 15 years of age. 1- BACK TO THE EGG 2- LONDON TOWN 3- VENUS AND MARS 4- RED ROSE SPEEDWAY 5- BAND ON THE RUN 6- WINGS AT THE SPEED OF SOUND 7- WILD LIFE My top three come in and out of being a fav but they're the ones I play the most. Band On The Run is classic but it's just so over-familiar now that's why it's so low on my list.

Fave musician of all...got into wings before the beatles . I was born in 74 so I missed the beatle era. Obviously I went back and they eventually became my favorite band, but the initial attraction to anything beatle related was Paul during his wings era

I love Ram more than any of the wings albums..Have the anniversary edition with two discs..You are right about Wild Life ..it stinks but for a couple tracks..
@guywoznicki78474 жыл бұрын
Being a completist like Pete, I bought Ram in early 80's to fill the final hole in my collection. After listening a couple times I became addicted. The melodies are so infectious, so beautiful, so amazing. I was upset with myself that I waited so long to get it! I still stand by my claim that side 2 is the best album side for McCartney, maybe anyone. I'll have to look into that anniversary edition.
@IgnorancEnArrogance4 жыл бұрын
I have to agree! If we were talking about all of McCartney's solo efforts, RAM is a top 5 album for sure. It's shame it got so much hate from critics and even his own ex-bandmates at the time.
