I’d argue that Bluestone’s projector is PART of his costume, and thus should’ve given a somewhat higher score in the costume segment

On a re-watch, I think that Bluestone the Great wasn't untied by Fred or any of the Gang, but used his skills to just get out of the ropes on his own. Which in one sense is its own brand of showing off.

I agree. It took me a few rewinds on that particular scene to notice he was not tied up for long, and even then I was able to conclude that he freed himself. The most genius about that scene is that you have to see it yourself to know what happened..

The first episode of Scooby-Doo Where Are You and that third episode about Captain Cutler is the only time they use that intro title card.
@JoeGoesOver
@JoeGoesOver 11 ай бұрын
It's weird, isn't it? Everything Hanna-Barbera did was designed to save money, so I can only imagine those title cards were originally created with the idea that every episode would have a custom design (like 'Jonny Quest'), but when Bill or Joe saw an artist working on one, they said, "What's the point? Just use the same run cycle over a generic spooky background and call it a day." It's like how the second and third title cards for season two of 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' had a red background and all the rest before and after were blue. I'd like to think it was some sort of hidden message by the director or one of the animators, like a calling card or Easter Egg, but I would never rule out simple sloppiness on the part of whoever was making the titles for those two. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Yeah, it's a shame cause i love those 2 title cards as they have a kinda B Movie artwork vibe. Or something you'd see on a comic book with a horror theme. Makes me wonder what other similar title cards coulda looked like for more episodes.

@@JoeGoesOver, I would never. Instead, give that idea to the Mystery Incorporated film team working on a KZbin live action Mystery Incorporated series. I would recommend you look at the first episode of that particular series that’s here on KZbin. It’s actually pretty unique for only one episode released since it came out and was delayed due to COVID and maybe the SAG strikes-Fred is traumatized by his parents murder, Daphne is running for school position, the Hex Giles are secretly witches as revealed at the end of the episode, and most egregious of all to us long time fans, Scooby doesn’t talk. He’s now a regular dog in a show about the Mystery gang, and so far we are still waiting for a second episode to come. Who needs Velma when we can have a KZbin channel making their own live action fan series?

I will say that in Mr. Wickles' defense, it was openly admitted that the professor was likely the only one to be able to spot the fakes at all, and while the likelihood that it would be found out in the moment is low at that point, Wickles likely didn't wanna risk it. Other than that, your other reasoning is sound. Actually, here's another question posed by the episode: How did he breathe with his mouth covered up and trapped in that disguise in the museum by the curator?
@JoeGoesOver
@JoeGoesOver Жыл бұрын
I focused on the lack of bathroom breaks for the professor, but that's a good question, too. I'm guessing Hyde-White didn't have a deviated septum so he could breathe through his nose. Unlike me, where having my mouth covered could result in suffocation! Thanks for watching!

I enoy watching this series. I do want to argue that Wickles wasn't as sloppy as it seemed, though. He likely would have cleaned up any mess he made before the museum opened in the morning. It just happened that the gang broke in to investigate while Wickles was working. He probably didnt call the police because he wasnt supposed to be there after the museum closed either so the police mightve started questioning his presence as well. This is just a guess. EDIT: I'm also wondering if the reason Bluestone didn't spend much time looking for the treasure because maybe he never cared about the treasure. Maybe instead he was using the castle to hide out since he was in so much trouble.
@JoeGoesOver
@JoeGoesOver 7 ай бұрын
I could see that being the case, but it still seems like he made a ridiculous mess when he didn't need to. And even if he was planning on cleaning up later, we're talking PAINT. When that stuff spills on the ground, it's extremely difficult to clean up. Even though he was likely using oil-based pigments and they wouldn't dry for weeks, that kind of paint would also tend to spread into the tiny cracks and grooves in the flooring, making it that much more difficult to remove. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Actually Joe, a suit of armor is feasibly terrifying . Trust me, I’ve seen enough gameplay videos involving suits of armor to know that even if it was just a guy in the suit, I would still be terrified of the suit enough to stay away from it and run away. No to mention, if it has a weapon like a sword or mace, think of how easy it would be for a suit of armor to accidentally or purposefully kill you with said weapon or even injury you greatly. I am a 22 year old 5’3 tall woman who will complain and whine if I so much as get a a cut on my finger or a goose egg bump on the head from accidentally hitting a cardboard door on the head, imagine the pain from having a sword or a fist flying at you from a gigantic bulky metal suit of armor that is presumably 7 feet tall. In my mind, KZbinr ToonGrin was right when he called the Black Knight one of the best Scooby Doo monsters, at least for how frightening he is, but you also gave me a different perspective on his whole operation so maybe it isn’t that clear cut..

Just a thought that came to mind, But what if the Witch Doctor had instead been portrayed as a Skinwalker? Imagine how genuinely terrifying he coulda been as a master of disguise with his costume tweaked a smidge. It'd even be less culturally insensitive in a sense. seeing as they are a notorious evil being from folklore that would even not be too far off from his costume in depictions. Just a thought i had watching this, as i'm a big fan of spooky stuff (not so much gorefest horror) But for more genuine horror that is simple like Scooby Doo. I'm also a writer who often makes horror themed comics from time to time. So i like to speculate on such things. But i feel if they had made him a Skinwalker instead of a Witch Doctor, A-The animals being dognapped is a reasonable thing to expect from such a being. B-He then could've used life like dummies of those dogs with some creepy additions like yellow glowing eyes or deformities to help in his scheme. Granted, this'd work more in What's New or Mystery Incorporated. But still. Just my 2 cents on what ways the monster could've been FAR more intimidating and unique.

Shaggy actually goes out of his way to save Scooby when he’s in danger; Scooby leads them to the dognappers’ hideout and Masters’s capture; in fact, Scooby actually proves his good dog status since he’s the one who in his rightful anger over the dognappings brings the gang into the mystery. The gang even trust Scooby to lead them to the villain. Plus, Fred had the best clapback I’ve ever heard in this franchise: Buck Masters-“You blasted kids! Why didn’t you mind your own business?” Fred-“Catching dognappers is our business Mr Masters. After all, Scooby Doo is a dog, and we love him very much” Scooby-(clearly touched by Fred’s words) awww 🥰. It’s funny how two episodes featuring the worst Scooby Doo villains (Decoy For A Dognapper and Never Ape An Apeman) feature Scooby at his most heroic, Shaggy at his most proactive, and the gang at their best. Even if you don’t watch for the villains, watch for the writing of the gang at their most likable..

There’s a lot more to Decoy For A Dognapper that I wish you would’ve mentioned too. Scooby’s uncharacteristic anger at the kidnapping, Shaggy recognizing that he is the guy likely to take the decoy, Scooby making sure Shaggy doesn’t eat his Scooby Snack the second time, the hot pink female chihuahua who crushed on Scooby and tried to rizz him up but got mad when he and Shaggy skipped along and purposefully threw the trash at them, Shaggy’s reaction to the trash landing on his hat, Shaggy chasing after and rescuing Scooby, Scooby’s communication with the other dogs into willingly chasing Buck Masters, and finally Scooby’s bravery in chasing after Buck Masters himself and even intimidating him. So many things in this episode make it more memorable than the other forgettable incompetent villains (except for Carl the Stuntman obviously), and we don’t even get to hear anything about them 😢

26:23-26:49 either Buck Masters is too cheap or he thought that having such a low amount for ransom demand would make the police less likely to investigate the dognappings, because come on, not many people would willingly investigate a series of dognappings where the ransom demand is $500 unless they were genuine people who truly cared about the dogs and wanted to rescue them with no thought about the money. Not that $500 is a bad amount. One of my favorite episodes of CSI:NY, season 6 episode 21 “Unusual Suspects”, has the victim in the episode revealed to have robbed a bank using a purposefully empty pistol wearing on sunglasses and only demanding $933 which was meant to pay his mother’s rent. Sure it’s a very poorly thought out plan, but then again this is a 14-year-old kid and his 12-year-old little brother desperate to help their widowed single mom by robbing a bank for only the amount needed to pay the rent for their apartment (not to mention this is his only crime), and he does end up getting shot by another less sympathetic thief who later dies in the episode by a hit and run accident as his karma for shooting a kid. Obviously a young kid isn’t gonna plan out his crime better when he’s that desperate to keep his family together. Buck Masters disappoints for how he planned out his crime. If a 14-year-old kid living in a shabby apartment taking care of his widowed single mom and little brother doing a DIY bank robbery 101 with only sunglasses and an empty pistol is able to plan out his crime better than you are, you know you’re not cut for it..

There’s also the fact that Buck Masters’s outfit not only has no special effects, but the episode itself defeats its fear factor by showing the Witch Doctor as a regular talking guy wearing a mask early in the episode before they even show him scaring the gang. The design of the episode itself ruins the scare factor and thus makes the outfit of Buck Masters’s Witch Doctor the worst monster next to our favorite lesser monster Carl The Stuntman..

You’re not the first to dunk on Miner 49er. KZbinr ToonGrin also did the same thing on his Top 10 Worst Scooby Doo Where Are You? Monsters. Commenter @jlwiseman98 actually wrote a comment about how Miner 49er could simply be memorable due to how ridiculous he is, and I would have to agree. In a series full of vampires, werewolves, ghosts, creeper copycats, and laughing alien cooks, an old prospector is too strange to not stand out from the crowd. Not to mention, his name Miner 49er, is too memorable to forget, and as another commenter pointed out, sounds like it could be the name of a disco ball move. Miner 49er may not be the most intimidating monster ever, but he certainly is a catchy one..😂
@JoeGoesOver
@JoeGoesOver Ай бұрын
This may sound strange, but in general, I take great pains to avoid other KZbinrs who discuss Scooby. I want to make certain everything is my own thoughts and not influenced by others (as much as possible; it's impossible NOT to take other people's ideas into consideration, whether it's writing a script for a video or deciding what to watch on TV). I came to this decision some time back after a very scary and disturbing online moment. There is a much, MUCH larger KZbin creator who focuses a lot on Scooby. I had followed them on Twitter because they kept coming up in my feed and one day it occurred to me that I'd never actually watched any of their videos. One day I went to their channel and the VERY FIRST VIDEO I SAW was about a topic that I had been workshopping in my head for my next video. This was a very obscure idea, the kind that not a lot of people would think about (in other words, not a discussion about how good/bad a character is or any top ten list). When it dawned on me just how awful it would have looked for me to have done a video on a topic after another much more popular channel did the same, regardless of the entire thing being a coincidence, I decided right then and there to NEVER purposely visit anoyother Scooby KZbin channel. If by chance I did say or do something that someone else did, I could at least swear honestly that I had not seen whatever it was that I was thought to have plagiarized. In fact, oddly enough just yesterday, this KZbinr mentioned that same video on his Twitter account, making me reaffirm my oath not to watch other Scooby content creators.

I'm glad to be your background music! KZbin can be flakey depending on the platform (PC vs smartphone vs smart TV). I would definitely recommend subscribing because, obviously apart from the fact that it helps my channel with the algorithm, it will hopefully help increase the odds of my new ones showing up in your feed. KZbin will often still recommend my videos or play the next one if a non-subscriber has already watched a previous one, but that's not a guarantee. In fact, even subscribing won't guarantee a new upload shows up as recommended. Even as someone who has obvious reasons to pay attention to subscriptions, I've found myself enjoying a channel and watching a stream of their videos pop up in my recommendations before realizing that I hadn't yet subscribed. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Part Two is in the rendering stage as I type this. It's a little over 40 minutes long, so it's unfortunately taking forever to process. I hope to have it uploaded and available later tonight or tomorrow, but that will depend a lot on KZbin's content-matching algorithm. I do my best not to set it off, but it occasionally hits me, requiring me to go back to the editing and rendering stage.

I must object to the points you took off from Captain Cutler’s Design: their scheme was _too successful?_ Come on, that’s nitpicking and arbitrary. If they got away with stealing 11 boats, on what basis can you say they wouldn’t have kept getting away with it? Saying the marina would hire security is immaterial; they don’t. Same with it being ‘unlikely’ there wouldn’t be a witness to the mini-sub. Clearly there wasn’t or else they’d have been busted. Evidence of their continued success can’t be used as evidence that they were bound to fail. Feels like you’re knocking off points just to keep Captain Cutler from getting a 5/5/5, which is by all accounts what he deserves. I’d settle for him getting a 7 on Outfit, that glowing suit is a core fear-memory for me as a child... the unnervingly heavy _THUNK. THUNK._ of his underwater footfalls...

I've been meaning to do an upload with my take on the series but wanted to wait until the season was concluded in order to be fair, but it almost feels like psyching myself up to do my taxes when it comes to heading back in to finish watching the rest of the episodes.
