As silly as it sounds (we are talking about a 50+ year old cartoon show), the method I came up with to rate the bad guys seems to be keeping it fair. Or at least it helps keep my personal biases in check. For example, while I personally like the Snow Ghost much more than the Green Ghosts/Phantom Shadows, due to my methodology, I was forced to rate them higher. As a child growing up in the 1970s, long before home video took off, I had a toy that featured a small film strip featuring the Snow Ghost. That episode never fails to evoke feelings of nostalgia. to give redbeard some credit, the rest of his crew could have cut their losses and run when the boss got caught. there could have been more pirates behind the scenes doing work that we didn't see, only to quietly slip away when the scheme was done. he could also have put modern power on that ship to make it more seaworthy and capable of catching up to modern day vessels, like a hidden minisub, or modern propellers hidden under the water and the fog. i'd say he earned at least more than a 1 in design, cuz he had a reason behind his crime aside from just stroking his own ego, and there was monetary gain to boot! you forgot to factor in that baskem the farmer would also be selling his own land on top of whatever he managed to swindle, so that take is at least doubled, if not more.

I have to commend you on your reviews! However, I have to return to your comment on the crack of the Southern Colonel being a closeted KKK member. Firstly, the Civil War (or as the Colonel would have referred to it, "The War of Northern Aggression") had ended only 105 years prior to this episode. There were many grandsons of war veterans still around at that time (perhaps even sons and daughters as some war vets were children who drummed for regiments). They had plenty to say about their side in that period of history (my own father met a few back in the 1950s) and how the war and Reconstruction affected their world as they knew it (and they weren't likely slave owning families either as very few Confederates owned them percentage wise). Second, it was mentioned that the Colonel liked to collect relics from the war and considering his potential age, he very well could have been the son of a soldier and was always interested in anything connected physically to that era. Some people today collect relics from various conflicts for one reason or another. It's also rather mean (dare I say reverse racism?) to infer the Colonel was a member of the KKK. Not every southerner was and not all approved of their methods. As for the money, I remember watching this episode with my dad and one of the first things he said when it was discovered the money Scooby inherited was confederate greenbacks, he said the money was probably worth twice as much as a million [at that time]. Collectors for dollars like that would indeed have paid quite a decent sum for bills in good condition. They could have sold it to another collector at the time for over 300K (which would have been a princely sum in 1969). If anything, the gang could have taken possession of those other relics in the cave and sold them to collectors for even more money! Imagine if EBAY and similar sites had existed in 1969! If Live Auctioneers [dot] com is accurate, those bills could be worth 50 or 100 times its face value today! If you have the time for a good read, I definitely recommend reading some books published between the 1890s and 1920s to get a better perspective on the Confederate/Southern cause and life at the time in general. Some were written by war vets or their immediate families. "Facts and Falsehoods Concerning the War on the South 1861-65" by Elizabeth Avery Meriwether (pseudonym George Edmonds) would be a good start as would books on President Lincoln by Thomas DiLorenzo. Big eye openers!!

One thing I appreciate about the Space Kook episode is how smart everyone in the episode is, including Shaggy and Scooby. I always appreciate the episodes that allow Shaggy to be intelligent in his own right, and the Space Kook is prime example. Sure, the scene of him and Scooby involving the door locking and running out the window back and forth just for the key lowers their IQ by a huge margin, but overall they’re just so impressive. Shaggy not only notices the gang ran away from him and Scooby due to their shadows, he also sees the Space Kook’s shadow and correctly identifies it as the Kook and then runs away. However, Shaggy’s smartest moment in my opinion is the radio tower. When he and Scooby first find the tower, not only does Shaggy conclude the radio is connected to the loud speaker, his first thought is to call the gang over. As they are trapped, when Scooby suggests the parachute, Shaggy doesn’t dismiss it, he mentions using it as a last resort; when the SK corners them, he saves both himself and Scooby using the parachute to escape. We already talked about Henry Baskam’s operation being brilliantly carried out as well as it did, so no need to mention it. Even Baskam’s neighbor is smart in his own right, as not only is he reasonable not to kill the gang when they first come over, but when he finds the gang’s jeep in the airfield, he immediately does the one thing almost nobody in Scooby Doo ever thinks to immediately do when being haunted by a Scooby Doo monster and immediately calls the sheriff to help find them. This episode is not only the best Scooby Doo monster ever, but the smartest episode in Scooby Doo period..

Shaggy and Homer Simpson share a bit of the same character development. For the first few seasons of 'The Simpsons', Homer wasn't an idiot. Sure he made mistakes, but he was more a put-upon father rather than America's favorite animated moron. The same could be said for Shaggy. In the early days, he had his moments to shine, but for much of the later 1970s until the 2000s, he was just the Gang's resident doofus.

Maybe the biggest thing holding Shaggy back is his own insecurities and fears, cause Legend Of The Phantasour (the same movie that introduced the world to Ultra Instinct Shaggy) proves that he is capable of fighting back and when not held back by fear. If we think about it, Shaggy could be capable of so much more if they let him believe it himself too..

I try not to turn all my videos into a catch-all for every production mistake in an episode (because that'd triple the time it takes to produce them!), but we all have our favorites. My personal go-to is probably how in the opening credits of 'What's New, Scooby-Doo?' Fred's silhouette was left out with the rest of the Gang's running forms. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@theoneandonly64315 ай бұрын
The Creeps/Crawls, Green Phantom, Inheritance plot was likely recycled from an earlier Flintstones episode were Fred had to spend the night in his "deceased" uncle's mansion in order to get his inheritance, while being hassled by constant threats from the uncle's staff members (Sorry if this has already been mentioned).

My favorite scene in That’s Snow Ghost is Shaggy’s sudden reappearance as a “ghost” after Velma was rescued. I can’t help but wonder why he came up doing that “oooohhhh” sound the bad guys make when trying to scare meddling kids as ghosts, like he was trying to scare the gang. I also love how Shaggy got his foot stuck in a barrel, fell into the water, and Scooby went to rescue him, the white paint immediately washing off. I ask you this cause the dude seemed confused about what happened and he didn’t seem to know how he ended up a “ghost”. In your wisdom, what do you think happened? Did Shaggy black out when he got covered in paint? Did he pretend to be a ghost intending on scaring the Snow Ghost? Did he get brainwashed by the Snow Ghost into scaring the gang and being submerged in cold water (there’s a joke in there about Justin Bieber’s song Cold Water but I can’t use it because nobody else seems to like that song like I do) broke off the brainwashing? Or did he purposefully try to prank the gang and then lie about being confused just to save face after his prank fell apart? I ask you for your wisdom, Joe my man. Do you have an answer to my question?

27:20-27:36 looking at this scene from that perspective, it also gives a whole new perspective to Uncle Stuart from What The Hex Going On. Like C.L. Magnus, Uncle Stuart also showed a lot of what appears to be remorse on his face after he was unmasked, in fact way more remorse than I’ve seen on most Scooby Doo villains. Either he was ashamed of the way he was defeated and simply knew better than to say anything or he did actually feel guilt for his actions and was too ashamed to speak to his niece who was clearly devastated. Looking at this picture in mind for C.L. Magnus and seeing how many Scooby Doo villains seem to show any kind of emotion, do you suppose Uncle Stuart felt guilt over what he did? Did Uncle Stuart care about Sharon in his own twisted way, even if he was a cold hearted monster?

For the coin I definitely can see shaggy having enough ADHD and or pot haze to be an accident pocketing it. Perhaps the writers didn’t consider stuff cause they didn’t have google so info wasn’t as easy to get as that? I think the beans are the same philosophy as people who “sample” grapes which technically changes weight even by a penny or 2 so technically stealing. I think the fact it’s meant for kids probably limited the zombie a lot in design as any rot with bugs or fake wounds would be too graphic for the audience/ratings boards. As others said here the first zombie siting might’ve been the other guy kinda like how a ghostface can have the other wearing it and be there to establish alibis for themselves. I do assume there’s engines of some sort under the galleon to work without wind/with shredded sails but yeah that’s pretty low a crew. Also wonder why he didn’t raid any ship in view to not make himself the only target though you are right it would work well with inside help from the captains. Perhaps it’s like 2 face or Scarface the puppet and his handler where it’s a whole alternate personality that is in control via specific clothing/puppets? I just realized how much the farmhouse looks like the courage the cowardly dog house which imagine scooby doo with Ramses voice and art style….now that’s scary. You presume the government wasn’t crooked or that he doesn’t have buddies in places to sign off on more. If alone? You right on value. If it’s typical gov especially of the 70s era? Crooked value. Although I just realized wouldn’t the lawyers have seen inside the case and realized it was confederate so not worth near as much(not worthless mind you can be sold to collectors especially in this time period but far short a solid million). Maybe the money is just another sick prank from an AH who thinks it’s funny to make people jump hoops in hope? Now that would’ve been BOLD if they’d tried to slip in a white sheet reference

The idea of one of Scooby Doo’s most iconic villains being the result of a mental breakdown hurts more than it probably should. I only had two copies each of the Scooby shirts printed (one for me and one for my daughter), but only one of the not-Jurassic Park shirts because it's poking fun at my daughter and I assumed she wouldn't want to wear it. I've been working off and on designing a third Scooby shirt for a couple of months now, but my Illustrator skills are lacking and the stage I'm on is so monotonous it's a struggle to get motivated enough to open that file up and continue.

Not a bad score by any means nor is it the category they scored the lowest in, as their design was only a 3.5/5. It's also interesting that for as iconic as the Space Kook is, even that episode falls victim to the common pitfall of using the word "ghost" as a catch-all. You forgot to mention the part of the Yeti Ghost’s section where they capture Shaggy too, and when he reappears, he’s covered in white paint presumably to make the gang think he’s been turned into a ghost (which we all know is child terminology for murder). For some reason, Shaggy just goes along with the ruse until his embarrassing defeat by getting his foot stuck in a bucket and falling into water that should’ve been freezing. I have to ask, what was he thinking? Was he pulling a prank on the gang or trying to disguise himself as a ghost in order to scare off the monster? After all, we know from later series that Shaggy is not above putting on disguises himself to frighten others. Was he trying to mess with the gang as revenge for the years he’s put up with their gaslighting and using him as bait? Not that the former makes sense since that was more of an issue in the Scooby Doo show, but the latter is still a good example. Was he brainwashed by the monster into doing it? Knowing how susceptible Shaggy is to hypnotism, that’s easy to see. Either way, that should’ve deserved some scrutiny..

I'm surprised no-one's made some kind of parody/homage to the "serious" HB cartoons of the Seventies ("Planet of the Apes", "Sealab 2020", the "Star Trek" animated series) with a fake pilot for a supposed "Night of the Living Dead"-based cartoon series. One where it's safe to go outside during the day as the zombies are nocturnal (that or something's happened to the moon so it's always night), and there's an established group of survivors -- including Dr. Logan reimagined as an absent-minded professor rather than a mad scientist -- who have some kind of cure or anti-zombie solution in their possession that they have to get somewhere to make massive worldwide use of. As for people being zombified, it's more implied than anything else, with every so often some ne'er-do-well or outright villain either running into zombies or being grabbed and dragged offscreen, and is one the next time they are seen. Now that I think of villains, I can see cartoon versions of Mr. Cooper or Captain Rhodes -- either still alive or as zombies -- as implied returning bad guys for the main cast.
