The Mantis is 100% the greatest parody episode of the show to date, I adore it so much. Having three different people act incredibly suspicious for no apparent reason, then have them all enter the room during the unmasking from the most ridiculous areas possible. And also having specific named plans for catching 8 foot tall insects, the writers had fun with this
@mikeike9742
@mikeike9742 3 күн бұрын
Yeah, Vulture's Claw was one of my favorite episodes as a kid and kept me guessing who the culprit was for most of its runtime. I love how the gang's plan for catching giant insects is apparently to hope that there is a conveniently placed chandelier that is just the right shape to simply confine the insect instead of crushing it to death.

@@JoeGoesOver 12:57: (In response to criticizing Edna's bias towards capes) Never underestimate the fashion sense of the cape, as it could be used to mean many things. For Royals, it's to make them look more extravagant than intended. For Hero characters, the cape could be a symbol of chivalry. For Villains, it's to give off intimidation. For Animators and Filmmakers, it's to help give weight to physics, or being in motion.

Perhaps during the failed experiment that created the monster, there were some garden shears sitting next to the tank that held whatever the mad scientist had been using to store his biological specimens. For me, “Cat Creature” always refers to the one from What’s New. I honestly think it’s the most deserving of the moniker, since it’s the only one that didn’t become a human, whether imagined or real, thus the term “werecat” can’t apply. As for the cops not getting in the gang’s face, I wouldn’t be surprised if the gang had international, or at least national, recognition for all the cases they solved. And for Bixby being an accomplice, I think it’s the usual. Hanna-Barbara being Hanna-Barbara. The mantis monster was pretty cool, so it’s a shame his episode ranked on the low side. Though I’m surprised they called it a mantis monster when it looks less like one than the future monster, mostly with the head. I’d have called it a locust, which would fit better with the design (including the arm spikes which mantids do have) and the location of botanical gardens. Great video as always, Joe! Looking forward for the next one, where we learn who that weirdo who shows up whenever you say “decade” is!

Prof. Greer joins Alice Dovely as one of the most despicable Scooby villains. A botanist of all people, a scientist, should know how important it is to protect any green area from unchecked capitalism, but he's perfectly fine demolishing a huge and probably historical botanical garden so that he could get rich.
@JoeGoesOver

Both villains featured in this video are terrible in that respect. Greer ignored the physical damage he would do to the environment by introducing oil extraction to the gardens, while Bell ignored the mental damage he was doing to his patient, Aunt Olivia. I really should have focused on that aspect more in my video. Damn! I enjoyed reading this and since I'm a big fan of 'Night Of 100 Frights', I thought I'd do my own analysis of the other Scooby Doo video game that I love, 'Mystery Mayhem'. Synopsis - The gang are investigating the appearances of ghosts and other supernatural entities at the Hambridge University Library where they uncover a mystery surrounding a mysterious book that can imprison spirits and other supernatural monsters. They learn that a shady organisation is using the book to unleash monsters across the United States for their own nefarious schemes... Design - Selena Drake is the Chief Executive Officer and personal assistant to Travis Sherman, the founder of Shermantech, a technology and research company that is secretly experimenting with mind control technology. In order to increase sales of their products Sherman devises a plan to unleash ghosts and monsters using an ancient Grimoire known as "The Tome Of Doom" (which I believe is the same book that held Sarah Ravencrofts spirit in 'The Witches Ghost'), the locations that he unleashes the entities at would be forced to sell their property which would be handled by one of Sherman's associates Walter Peabody, Robert Zabrinski and Mindi Stiles who would handle the sale of the property using a shell company called 'Greenwood Development'. With the property in his possession Sherman would order for mind control antennas to be constructed there, all part of his plan to mind control the entire population of the United States to make people buy his products. Selena Drake however wanted to use the mind control technology to control the world and with the torn pages of the Tome Of Doom in her possession she could release any monster of her choosing wherever and whenever she wanted. Selena gets a 5.0 out of 5.0 for her design, her plan was evil and is probably the most devious plan ever to be concocted by a Scooby villain. Outfit - Selena never actually wore any outfit throughout her appearance. She did however briefly appear as an undercover spy shadowing the gang after they left Hambridge but this was only for a brief moment. Selena mostly relied on her associates and the pages from the Tome Of Doom to enact her plan. Walter Peabody, the assistant to Alan Dinsdale, the Hambridge librarian (and secretly an undercover special agent), tore the pages out of the Tome before giving them to Selena. Selena then released ghosts (which appear to be the Green Ghosts from 'A Night Of Fright Is No Delight') and Shadow Monsters in the library, whilst Peabody himself dressed himself as a Fake Ghost which was nothing more than a white sheet over him. Next at the Milton Brothers Movie Studio, she gave Robert Zabrinski the pages for Mummys and Poltergeists while Zabrinski dressed as a Red Knight (just a recolour of the Black Knight). Next at the Gold Mountain Western Theme Park owned by Johnny Channaypatra, Selena gave Mindi Stiles the page for Dust Devils while Mindi was pretending to be Johnny's only remaining employee after all the others fled, Mindi also briefly disguised herself as a Native American when unleashing the Dust Devils. In the Bayou the Gang uncover evidence that Shermantech paid off a retired Master Sergeant and his group of mercenaries to capture all the zombies released at Greenwood Developments recently acquired property and bring them to their headquarters. At the Shermantech HQ Selena and Travis plans are unveiled but while Travis surrenders, Selena doesn't and she unleashes the Tomes most powerful spirits, the Fire Ghosts and their King. While Selena herself doesn't wear any disguises, her associates do and the monsters they release are real and not fakes. Selena gets a 3.5 out of 5.0 for her outfit. Operation - Selena is probably the most evil Scooby villain ever. She wanted to control the world with her mind control and unleash monsters and ghosts at her will. She must have been aware of the Scooby Gangs previous escapades as she was seen following them after they investigated the Library. The plan that she and Travis devised to force property owners to sell their property to them isn't a new scheme but her wanting to control the world is. She didn't just want to make Shermantech more successful but she had world domination plans in mind. Whilst Travis Sherman abandoned his plans after realising that he had lost, Selena still attempted to enact her plan by unleashing the Fire Ghosts and the King of Fire. But she severely underestimated the gang, especially since they had the Tome Of Doom in their possession. Walter Peabody was responsible for creating a fake Tome Of Doom and rather than disposing of the real one, he hid it in the abandoned underground section of the library. The other associates were sloppy with the pages they had been entrusted, with Shaggy and Scooby finding each page at every location and being able to capture all the monsters at all the sites Selena had been to. She may have been the most evil villain but she was just mad with power and that made her sloppy with her grand scheme. She gets a 2.0 out of 5.0 for her operation. This leaves Selena Drake with a final DOO score of 3.5 out of 5.0.

Make a Beeline Away from That Feline was such a scary episode to me as a kid. I'd hate to be in Aunt Plivia's shoes, the man who was supposed to help her and be her most trusted confidant psychologically tortured her and made her lose faith in her own sanity, and the planted clues were so convincing. That scrap of cloth she was holding turning out to be Shaggy's shirt feels like something out of a werewolf movie. And the nightmares. And if you are a kid and you don't know it's most likely just a scam, it's so scary that the gang is staying in the same house as Aunt Olivia, and we're not really sure if she is a monster or not. I felt the tension as a kid. Also, the plot of this episode may have been inspired by the 1945 movie, Cat People, about a woman's obsession that she's turning into a cat monster, but the monster is really just in her head, and represents her sexual repression, the feelings of isolation and distrust of herself, but also people around her.

If you enjoy 'Cat People', the Dark Corners KZbin channel did a very good video on it. It's surprising how they never dwell too long in the episodes themselves on just how terrible it is for a trusted person like a doctor or uncle (lookin' at you, Leon!) to betray their patient or ward. In later series, they do seem to recognize how serious it is when that happens. Thanks for watching and commenting and subscribing!

Also, is it just me or does the feline creature and a coming episode “Diabolical Disc Demon” have some weird moments where it feels like the animators were giving a lot more effort than normal. For the feline episode I’m referring to the scene where the feline is in the elevator with Scooby and it seems more expressive than normal, and for the disc demon it’s the man who is trying not to get caught at the very beginning of the episode.

2:18 So apparently, New Yorkers drive on the left side of the road now, even though the other cab was clearly on the right side. The jewellers voice is so Shaggy-like, I would be surprised if he wasn't another uncle or maybe a more distant cousin. Respect for trying a different voice at least, Casey. 4:04 Shaggy can turn his head a full 180 degrees apparently It's my headcanon that B.B. Bell was inspired by Catwoman from the Batman comics, except he didn't get the part where you steal the jewelry quietly instead of going ham. Also, just gotta say it, this episode included a literal cat burglar. Hypnosis is so effective in the Scooby Dooniverse that I wouldn't be surprised if the military tried to weaponize it for wars. Just build a big pendulum and tell the enemy armies that they are feeling sleepy. And then boom. Dead. 31:35 I don't know why, but that frame is funny as hell I'll give the Scooby writers this, they weren't generic enough to make the monster at Vulture's Claw a... well... vulture. Great video as always!

Thank you for your kind words! Considering his was the only car on the road, and the only two policemen in the city were at the jewelry store, the cab driver probably felt it was safe to drive that way! As for Shaggy's neck twist, it's all fun and games until he grabs a crucifix! Our government has done some bonkers things when it comes to defense, making hypnosis sound almost quaint by comparison. There are TONS of goofy frames, and if I had more time, I'd resurrect my KZbin Shorts series and highlight some! Me last time: "I think the Cat Creature will be the new highest scoring villain of the season!" Well that didn't age well. I think this season is down there with The New Scooby-Doo Movies as far as DOO Scores go. Next time, we'll get to the source of a running gag that's been around for practically "decades" and follow it up with one of my favorites from this show. In regards to Bell saying that Olivia responded to hypnosis better than any of his other patients, I think the implication of that sentence wasn't that he tried framing his other patients for different crimes but that he is a hypnotherapist, or that he at least dabbles in hypnotherapy alongside other methods. I'm not sure what you mean about the Scooby wiki referring to the monster as a Feline Creature though, it only ever uses the word "feline" in regards to the title and a trivia entry where it makes a note about this being the second monster in a row based on a feline.

I tend to defer to much of what the Scooby fansite says for the franchise, simply for ease of use. Not that everything there is correct. I've seen countless examples of either wrong facts or "evidence" that doesn't match what's actually seen in the episode. Much of the third season of 'The Scooby-Doo Show' feels rushed and the product of a studio selling a product that they didn't have enough staff to produce. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Might just be me, but I always found it a bit strange how the Feline Creature was pretty clearly male, when it was supposed to be Olivia transformed into a monster. That would kinda be like if Simone and Lena were transformed into burly cat-men after they revealed themselves to the gang in ZI. I get it would be weird having the tall and seemingly slightly buff Bell be wearing a skinny female cat-monster costume, but the writers hasn't cared about stuff like that before (looking at Mr. Wickles, Elina Stonehack and a few others) and they could've, if they actually cared about logistics, made Bell a woman of a similar build to Olivia. It's not like female culprits wasn't a thing when the series was going on at the time and female psychologists and doctors weren't that rare (though unfortunately not as respected as male ones) at the time. Still, great video per usual, Joe, and condolences for the reupload. KZbin really stinks at times.

True. My guess is he’s being doing this for a while. He did mention other patients before after all. Among the many others, he must’ve found the most success with her. The fact that she trusted him not to scare the kids and was comfortable enough to trust him with her “delusions” certainly supports this idea. In which case, Dr BB Bell is just as vile as Uncle Leon and Alice Dovely, taking advantage of a poor innocent woman and even gaslighting her into believing she was the monster. I hope that cape ends up being the last thing he takes with him as he goes to prison..

The Cat Creature episode was always one of my favorites. I like Casey Kasem's voice of Dr. Bell even though he didn't say much. Velma's "Nice to have met you, Dr. Bell." to his simple and curt "Yes." was my favorite scene. I swear, many years back, that during a standard tv showing, there was an alternate title to the episode of: Who was that Cat Creature I saw you with? Not 100% sure of that though.

The fansite claims the DVD release of the episode uses that alternate title, but I just checked my copy and the inside box art, DVD title AND episode titles say 'Make a Beeline Away from that Feline', so I can't independently verify this rumor. However, as so many claimed to have seen it, I don't discount it, either. Warner Bros has had shockingly poor quality control of the franchise's home releases over the years, so it's possible. You know I knew that Daphne’s aunt couldn’t be the cat creature as it’s too masculine and wearing looks more like a supervillain(especially for the Warlock later on keep that in mind) I thought you would have mentioned the Cat people and Catwoman especially with all the jewel thefts. I thought you would have mentioned the Island of Dr Moreau as the mantis is created by mad scientist and also the Deadly Mantis and the Fly. When you get the Menace in Venice the ghost costume reminds me of the Spider-Man villain Hobgoblin.

First off foremost this is the Blakes, And we know the family Blake tree is huge actually: "I jokingly say it's a forest!" I mean they have an entire section devotes The Butlers, And we've all seen how big Daphne's family is I mean she has 12 sisters, 114 aunts and uncles she is related to the Stantz & Spenser Both well respected ghostbusting families. And somewhere in that forest of trees is also the Pennyworth as stated Alfred Pennyworth. And we also know that Daphne's families rich because as stated her parents pick Thursday night to count their money and then when they finish counting their money it's the next Thursday night and they have to do it again of the next month. So the only problem that this doctor has in his evil scheme is essentially suggesting I should rob all these jewelry stores and frame a wealthy family member of an extremely large family instead of you know stealing all the money through a convoluted inheritance scheme. I mean you're at home doctor in this era in New York City, oK you're wealthy and your clients are wealthy why are you robbing jewelry stores? I know this is a running gag in the series but uh Which mob does he owe money to? PS: Did you Google search for the picture of legal eagle or did you just ask him for a copy? [Look you played all the clips of New York City you didn't play the one clip that should have been played, who you going to call? ghostbusters!] Seriously though why is it that the gang haven't been framed for a murder or crime until much later, I mean you have friends who literally pull off these schemes on regular basis? That said why a giant mantis? The place is literally called Vulture's claw why didn't you go with a giant vulture what were you afraid you were going to get sued by some decrypted bald man who has skills of being Batman and also a spectral entity that I cannot say his name in three rapid successions? [On the site though we all know that professional wrestlers have side jobs because Vincent Mann is a cheaake. Also a jerk, Also with that height he could also play basketball which is much more profitable and has a better dental plan & healthcare plan. Also shaggy you should tower over Bruce Wayne he's only 5.4 Which is a coincidentally my heighth and also the same height as wolverine?] But then again this is the problem because your partnering up with Dickerman, do you know the reason why, I was doing this joke! Maybe he was a wrestler sometimes those side geeks really need to just not be affected by your tons and tons of brain damage. [On the subject of shaggy wearing his clothes underneath his nightgowns he does have a history of having to run away from monsters maybe he's just going on the side bed of saying well I don't want to run around the street naked]

The part where you mention Alfred as part of her family gets me. If you are interested in Ghostbusters, feel free to check out the two non-Scooby videos I did on them a couple of years ago! The problem with a large franchise that spans over five decades [ACE DECADE] like Scooby is the continuity is all OVER the place, and seldom is that seen more than the relatives showing up in the shows and films over the years. Dickerman was tall, but stocky, and that's a terrible combination for basketball. Way too much running for someone who is probably close to 300 lbs! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!

If there is a 13b there should be a 13a or just a plain 13, but as a professional deliverer of goods for the past 10 years, believe me, the amount of addresses that doesn't make any sense, well... they might be higher than you think. Also, a strong enough gust of wind can blow open an iron gate, just ask my old car. Granted it was much smallet than the one in the episode, but still.
@JoeGoesOver
@JoeGoesOver 2 күн бұрын
I can't imagine how awful it would have been for delivery drivers in my area if we kept the original pre-1990s address scheme. Our country areas used to rural routes and box numbers (e.g., RR 5 Box 620), which would mean nothing to anyone not affiliated with the USPS. After decades [ACE DECADE] of complaints from police, fire and ambulances who were often delayed while looking for wherever an emergency was occurring, they renamed most of the county with house and road numbers that gave approximate location based on distance and direction from the center of the county. So now a typical address looks like 500 N 600 S, where 500 means approximately half a mile north on County Road 600, a road that is approximately 0.6 of a mile south of the center of the county. Nice and griddy. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@JoeGoesOver
@JoeGoesOver 2 күн бұрын
It's amazing how often even modern buildings avoid using 13 as a floor number, because of how superstitious so many people are. If it was me, I'd be like, "Instead of going through the hassle of pretending this 15 story building has 16 floors, just give me a discount and I'd be more than happy to rent on level 13!" At least Chinese builders have a better reason to avoid using 4 for their floor numbers as the word is a near homonym for "death" in their language. Honestly with how many times the Mystery gang has been in newspapers, i'd suspect the police would know who they are. As opposed to what modern scooby doo tells you, the Scooby gang do infact work with the police, Many times. Infact many times they even decide "Let the police handle the rest" but then the monsters go after the gang. At this point i would actually believe that as soon as the police find out the gang is on the scene they'll ask them to keep their eyes open for anything they might find suspicious and tell them while the police work on things on their end. Their credibility is that high.

You have a much, much different perspective of American police departments than I do. It’s such a shame that the Cat Creature scored so low. I was just getting ready to rip him a new one for how vile he is. Hypnotizing a poor old woman who is clearly suffering mentally and using her as a patsy? Horrible. And with the powers of hypnosis working as shown in the Scooby Doo franchise, who knows what twisted and sickening things he could do to her while having her under his power? It’s honestly a good thing that he ONLY used her as a patsy for his crimes, cause the implications of doing anything else to her and gaslighting her into thinking she was the monster are too strong to ignore..
