Wait, u gotta watch 500 Days of Summer again, cuz its basically a cautionary tale about what happens when you date a girl cuz of her music taste and bangs, going thru the tropes of manic pixie dream girl and the naivety of men chasing them is the point of the film. they break up in the end cuz she saw it as a fling and he thought he was in love. But i agree it did damage to the people who didn't get the point lol With that being said tho, Fast and Furious and Hot Rod are absolutely better and are peak cinema

500 Days is smarter than you’re giving it credit for. Part of the point is that you shouldn’t fall in love with someone based on superficial things like music taste. Though if American Psycho is anything to go by, people are inevitably gonna take it the wrong way. If internet men will idolize a serial killer they’ll idolize Gordon-Levitt Blando as well.

Did the movie have a point? Does a movie have to have a point in order to be good? I don't think so. I think 500 Days was an excellent movie, but not for the "point" you attribute to it. It was brilliant because it recreated the experience of being in love as it really is. It is almost more superficial to suppose you can choose who to fall in love with or to choose the criteria by which you fall in love and I wonder how much attention you paid to that movie. I notice the word "like" ... in other words, music is only one of the myriad "superficial" things. What else is on that list? What isn't on that list? When you meet someone, it is superficial things you notice because that is all you CAN notice? He fell for Zooey because she was whimsical and cute and spontaneous and dishy. She was the sum of parts, one of which was the fact that her favorite Beatle was Ringo. But yeah, second time watching it, she was so obviously a sociopath.
