I got to them, died a couple of times, said "fuck it" and didn't return until waaay later. At this point, I just deleted them with my +9 weapon, but it sucked, because I was overpowered for Fortissax and Astel.

The worst part about the valiant gargoyle's poison is that all of your summons stand in it like a dumbass and get melted, so you can't even try to balance the bullshitery with your own broken ally.

I found the Champion's Gravetender fight quite difficult and fun on my SL1 +0 Weapons run. The Gravetender didn't die before the Greatwolf showed up, either! 😊

Dont think I've ever said this about a ranking channel. But I love this channel, the subtleties of the Lies of P music in the back, the parry noise when mentioned or the strong critiques. I love all of it.

Another reason to not include Prowling Magus and Congregation here could be that they have a bit of lore, the Magus lures those miserable souls with the promise of healing, but apparently it's not clear whether or not he is just making things worse for them or actually healing them, which makes you question whether or not you're doing the right thing by wiping them all out. Of course, this was communicated terribly, but at least it's something and gives that boss slightly more depth.

I actually had a fun time with the Godskin Duo. Don’t get me wrong, it was frustrating, and I’m under no delusions about quality of design, but man was it rewarding to make it through. I found myself playing differently than I normally would in a boss fight, it taught me some valuable lessons about when to run away from an attack and when to dodge, and I got to listen to the banger soundtrack.

In my opinion the problem with ancient soldier Varg is that while Havel in Ds1 is an early to mid-game fight and he can absolutely one shot early characters, but putting the same enemy in an endgame boss fight results in the enemy still being able to one-shot you when you're supposed to fight him, in this case, because you're in the endgame, you don't have the option of coming back later like you do with Ds1 Havel, so it just becomes completely unfair when you put said enemy in a gank fight

I know everyone hates the ever-loving shit out of Godskin Duo (and I get it, they can be extraordinarily annoying) but I actually had a blast fighting them on my first playthrough: see, I knew in advance that they would be hell, so I summoned Bernahl and four rat ashes I'd been carrying with me for the memes, and let them absolutely swarm the Duo while I whaled on them with my Bloodhound's Fang. It was so much fun that I didn't even mind dying once or twice. Since then, I've always been in favor of using spirit ashes if they can geniunely make a fight more fun.

This is why people love Luhtelle, Dheene, and Latenna so much as Spirit Ashes. They're incredibly powerful but generally can't solve bosses by themselves and come off as more extensions of your own power.

I think there's quite a few good gank fights out there though, and in some you do have the assistance of an A.I companion: for example, Hrist and Mist from God of War: Ragnarok, where Atreus is a helpful distraction against one enemy (same thing in God of War 2018 with Magni and Modi), yet I'd still count those as gank fights, since you are fighting two enemies that coordinate with each other and will sometimes have to fight both. My issue is with the gank fights where this coordination is basically non-existent, and that's why I summoned for Godskin Duo: the fight's unfair, so I'll make it fair on myself.

I actually liked the Godskin Duo on my first playthrough. I just parried the Noble to death and focused on the Apostle until the Noble respawned and I had to parry it to death again. No summons or sleep pots, just my buckler shield.

the thing with elden ring gank fights is you will just overpower them with your build, there is zero strategy needed, so it doesnt even matter if a fight is good or not, you wont even notice the difference.

I think what really puts gargoyles over godskin is that at least for godskin you can summon Bernarhl who is usually pretty good at soloing the apostle for you, but with gargoyles you get D who does middling damage with his holy gear and is likely gonna be melted by the poison breath so at best he's just a brief distraction

I feel like the best gank fights are ones where the bosses act like one boss, taking it in turns, instead of the bs non stop aggression we got with godskin duo etc. Nailmaster oro and mato from hollow knight was great at acting like one enemy, because you only got ganged up on if you made bad decisions. Same with the first black rabbit brotherhood fight in lies of p.

Co-op Gank Squad from DS2 for other place than 1 & 2 kinda surprises me (Duo Tigers as 1st, 3 explorers as 2nd) just for the road to these encounters - if you applied the ability to despawn enemy you know, there is something bad there. In case of Duo & Gargoyles you can easily retry these fights, but they would be 3 & 4 because they are constructed of warriors that works solo, which is not equal to them working in duo (to worse, gargoyle pretty sucks solo). On number 5 I would put gank squad from Lies of P because of same reason you put Sekiro encounter: these type of fights does not work in Sekiro-type combat, at least case of Sekiro you can swiftly change it to single encounter what is impossible in LoP gank. From these fights, at least Godskins & Gravetender has cool OST.

The Capra demons only issue was its arena. It forces you to get lucky with dodges and because of how it is, you are basically forced to kill the dogs first. You put it in a more square arena, like maybe some sort of town square area, then it could have been an okay boss.

Worst one is iron golem, it’s a gank fight with the golem, gravity, and glitches. It also has the worst runback in the entire series if you don’t find the hidden bonfire. (Yes, I did fight Lud and Zallen)

When it comes to Champion Gravetender and his Greatwolf... I know everyone says you can easily beat him before his wolf comes out, but I've never been able to dish out the damage to him that fast and then the wolf shows up and wrecks me unless I get lucky because half his attacks are impossible to dodge, at least in my experience. I hate that fight so much.

I actually really liked valiant gargoyles on my first playthrough, I was surprised when I found out everyone hated them. The thing that made me not like them as much was continuing through the game and seeing them be reused so much.

I really didn’t like the Godskin Duo because it just comes out of nowhere in Farum Azula. I heard how infamous they were from watching other playthroughs of Elden Ring and how much trouble they gave the other players. I only managed to beat them because I had explored a lot beforehand, acquiring the Mimic Tear which diverted either the noble or apostle. Giving time for me to kill the noble quickly before the apostle got melted by his own black fire and my Grave Scythe. Same goes for the Valiant Gargoyles mostly due to their aggression. It would’ve been nice if they took a similar approach like with the Demon Princes where one is more passive while the other engages against you. I wish I could give more of an opinion on the other entries but I’ve only played Elden Ring and Bloodborne plus this comment is already long enough as is and I’d rather not give a huge wall of text for you to read. Love the vids btw

My bf beat the valiant gargoyles first try, first playthrough a couple weeks ago. It was honestly pretty hype. But now, I'm currently witnessing the duo crush their soul into pieces. They've beaten them twice (weirdo has three parallel save files with different builds lol) and yeah they're sooo terrible. I'm not looking forward to reaching them in my save file. I'm so behind! I actually think From Soft intended players to use sleeping pots with the Godskin Duo. This is the company that made Demon's Souls, a game where almost every boss fight is a gimmick fight. And the Valiant Gargoyles aren't much of a problem if you just use the tools the game offers.

I know there's at least one other place too where you fight the Godskin bosses together, in a cave or something I forget where. But at least there when you kill one it stays dead due to separate health bars. I really hate it when they make a duo boss that is just 'put two bosses designed to be fought solo in a room together.' We see this in several places in ER, and I'd put the two crucible knight boss in as simlar to the godskin issues. Two highly aggressive and simlar enemies rather than a dynamic duo that compliment one another. Unfortunately I feel Elden Ring's massive overworld led to them having to do a lot of padding which lead to a lot of boss repeats, and boss repeats in this vein are one symptom of that. The other that annoys me is when they reuse a boss but put them in a much smaller arena. Like the Astel t hat's in a small cave arena or the fallen star beast in a caelid mine. Dark Souls 2 probably has the most 'meh' bosses (though I do still like DS 2) as it inflated the number of bosses from DS 1 but was before BB/ER started to make better bosses in general. (Not that those games are perfect.) But ER's reuse issues probably give it the most frustrating boss moments for me.

They are hard, bs sometimes but I love both individually and if you use the pillars(even the broken one's) and build distance and if one is dead it gets the sharm of four kings. There’s only one gank fight I’ve tried so far in a Soulsborne game (because I don’t play them that often) and that’s the one with the Misbegotten (I think) and the Crucible Knight in Elden Ring. The Misbegotten is easy enough but fuck the Knight. I swear that spear of his gets longer and longer the more I fight him and he fucking grows wings when his health is halved, making the fight pretty much impossible.

I love that Twin Dragonriders is at dead last because like. Dudes are legit just two Elites that suddenly got shoved on boss duty. I realized that on my last run of DS2, a moment where I just decided to fight the first one straight and realized they're even more pitiful than the Heide Knights. They aren't even a *bad* fight just. So ultimately depressing. ...meanwhile yeah no the Twin Gargoyles in Elden Ring can suck the largest, fattest, most rotten...yeah, you can guess I just generally dislike the design of any of the gargoyles in Elden Ring, they're way too lanky and disjointed at times. Compared to Souls gargoyles, these guys should have stayed mounted on the cathedrals.

Here's my ranking of your choices: 10. Maneaters: Despite some wonky AI, I actually quite enjoy the challenge. Besides, using the Warding magic spell completely trivializes the difficulty. 09. Capra Demon: It's an ambush in a tight arena. Fromsoft knew what they were doing! Even so, I enjoy fighting the Capra Demon, at least after the doggos are dead. 08. Royal Rat Authority: Yes the toxic rats are BS, granted. Yes, the Rat Authority itself is kinda aping Sif. Once again though, this is a gank fight I like. In fact, I think I might be the only one who does... 07. Twin Dragonriders: Not difficult, but underwhelming and unnecessary. 06. Champion's Gravetender / Greatwolf: At least with the Rat Authority they tried something different. This "Greatwolf" is just a discount Sif. Also, I am not a fan of NPC type enemies as bosses. 05. Shulva Gank Squad: Again, not a fan of NPC bosses, and this has three of them. The only reason they aren't higher on the list is because they are still somewhat manageable and vaguely fun to fight. Very vaguely. 04. Lud / Zallen: It's a reskinned boss that adds a second and has the most miserable, painfully boring runback in the series. They'd be in the top three if I didn't find my top three to be absolute hell to fight. 03. Headless Ape / Bride: As someone who has only played Sekiro twice and never did fully master the combat (which I plan to remedy in a future playthrough), this was hellish for me. I had enough trouble with the Guardian Ape, but now I have to crowd control two seperate opponents while trying to play Sekiro like Dark Souls. 02. Valiant Gargoyles: I agree with everything you said about these guys. One is hard enough, but two is just cruel. The aggression, the poison...it just makes for a pretty miserable experience. I like the Maneaters, but this is just ridiculous! 01. Godskin Duo: For me, the Godskin Duo will go down as Fromsoft's worst ever gank fight for one reason. On their own, both are fun to fight. Especially the Apostle. They also use Black Flame which is just freakin' cool! It's not even the fact that they are hard as balls to defeat. It's the health bar thing. In principle, I fundamentally despise this being used for a gank fight of two already difficult on their own bosses. Minions is one thing, like with the Skeleton Lords from DS2, but this is just plain sadistic of Fromsoft...don't even get me started on Malenia!!!

The Godskin Duo just feels stupid. Even disregarding the mistakes in the fight design, it’s dumb. Why do they infinitely respawn until you deplete the health bar? What is the lore reason? It’s supposed to be a duo boss yet they just keep respawning? Would it have been so hard to just give them each one health bar or a shared health bar that goes to zero when they both die? Confusing choice that feels weird.

I don’t hate the Twin Gargoyles nearly as much as I should. The fight doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the Gank Squad or Lud & Zallen. DSII truly has the worst boss ganks out of the entire series. Godskin Duo aren’t hard but I just hate that it’s a mandatory fight in an amazing area with the two of the bosses in my top 5 Elden Ring boss ranks.

I absolutely can’t agree on your no. 1, as I really like that particular fight, and once you have the moveset down, it’s really easy. Also the duo ape fight in Sekiro is a great fight for me. My no. 1 would be Gravertender and Spear of the church from DS3. They both suck so bad.

In addition to why valiant gargoils is the worst duo fight - it kinda spoils dragon fortissax bossfight that goes after gargoils. The point is, due to the gargoils' immense difficulty the player most likely be overleveled to somehow defeat the gargoyles. And given the fortissax's small HP, the player will not be able to fully enjoy the battle with it, killing it in a minute.

I think the idea is that Fortissax is supposed to be incredibly intimidating for having a bizarre dragon moveset, especially the auto-targeting Lightning Strikes when you stay at his side. The issue is that even squishy build will outlast him due to better healing and potentially ranged options that he sucks at dealing with so everything about the fight with Fortissax ends up being a wet fart in spite of it's concept and visuals.

Completely agreed. It took me so many tries to kill the stupid gargoyles, and then I find out that I get to fight a baddass death dragon, only to kill it in one attempt. In retrospect, that was probably the most disapointing part of the entire run, since it made the whole questline seem pretty forgettable, even though it probably should have been one of the coolest plots in the game

A good list, I personally would have 100% put Rom on here too, it's a similar fight to Rat Authority but everything does ridiculous damage. I could also see an argument for Micolash or The One Reborn, but personally I wouldn't go for those. And I absolutely agree for the Gargoyles, that is one of the worst boss fights in the series for me.

DS2 suffered a lot from fans over expectations, but if you don’t put too much expectations on some of the boss fights and just look at them more as “interesting” enemies, then it’s cool.

@@ahmedisam2533 ya that’s fair u might have a bit of whiplash, the gameplay of ds2 is a lot more methodical and slow paced, not nearly as aggressive. Also remember to upgrade your adaptability ADP, this gives you a quicker chug and more I-frames. The only knock I sorta agree with is the octagonal direction of movement in DS2. In sekiro you have 360 degree movement. But I don’t even notice it anymore, the game feels fluid to me. However I play on Xbox so I feel PC players have more of a legitimate gripe about the octagonal direction

I'm surprised to not see Throne Watcthar and Throne Duo up here. I've been doing an SL1 run of DS2 lately, and the Throne duo are just as bad as Godskin Duo in alot of ways and worse in a few once you don't have have the health and damage to trade them down.

Hard agree. Throne Duo consists of two enemies that feel like they are just way better than you moveset-wise and then there's two of them and they attack asynchronous of each other. Godskin Duo is at least in Elden Ring which gives the player more tools to take them on with, even if their fight still sucks and is clearly unbalanced.

I mean a lot of things become way more of an issue on sl1, it's a late game boss so kinda biased to base you're opinion on a sl1 run. I don't think throne W&D are that bad, at least not worse than any on this list.

@@brent8407 Most bosses are just fine on SL1, including some of the really hard ones like Sinh and Fume Knight. The issues present with the throne Duo are still present on casual playthroughs, getting a safe hit in without trading is a tedious waiting game, the only difference is that the margin of error is a alot higher on casual playthroughs, so you don't get stuck long enough for the bad design to become grating.

@@carlschrappen9712 That's definitely a valid point, but I feel like that kinda applies to all gank fights, getting hits in those is usually more difficult by default than in a 1v1 bossfight. O&S always gets nothing but praise but trying to get some safe hits in during that fight (especially with a strength melee build) can be absolute ass, to do that on a sl1 run sounds like a nightmare. In that regard throne W&D are probably a worse O&S but imo far from the worst gank fights.

Valiant Gargoyles at 1st is honestly insane considering how much garbage there is in Ds2. And only because of the poison attack? I genuinly dont get it I really think that they are some of the best enemies in the Series with a really fun moveset and everything. They dont deserve this hate just because you couldnt find a poison bolus in your inventory.

I would put the king’s pets above valiant gargoyles. Stake of Marika and a relatively nearby grace site allows for somewhat easy access. Dying to the king’s pet requires one of the worst walk backs in the entire franchise hell even from softs entire library of games. It’s a terrible fight with a terrible gimmick with a terrible walk back in one of the worst areas in the game.

Godskin duo for me is number 1 forever. Even the fat one alone for me is insane.... last playthrough of Elden Ring I just made the fight a joke getting the fat one asleep and fighting the other one alone and that way is bearable. It's the worst fight in the whole game and the worst fight in all of their games for me.

I disagree with Champions Gravetender and Greatwolf. The music is so good! And tbh the wolf is pretty fun to fight. I also kinda disagree with Valiant Gargoyles since atleast they have turn based AI like demon in Pain and Demon from bellow. Id swap Godskins and Their place atleast. But other than that yeah i agree with the list.

While I think ds2 has the most bad gank fights Elden ring has the worst gank fights all the gank fights are either miserable mini bosses you beat the shit out of in seconds or they are the same enemy but there’s two And then the actual gank bosses instead of gank mini bosses are both horrible unbalanced and unfun in every single way

Surprised duel tree sentinel wasn’t here lol bad arena + again pairing complete bosses. You’re really better off staying in a corner and trying not to aggro the other. Also would have included the commander in castle sol. The commander was enough but adding two aggressive banished knights? I hate it. Definitely feels like some for these fights were *made* with the ash summon mechanic in mind. Which imo is not good.

I really have never understood the godskin duo hate. They are a wall designed to tell you that you aren't ready for Malikith. I was level 75 going into godskin duo and had they not stomped me I would have been walled by Malikith forever
