As a young-ish guy (mid 30s) in engineering, I want nothing more than to be on a team with a bunch of really smart old guys. Youth and energy is important, but so is decades of knowledge and experience. My biggest fear as an engineer is all the old guys retiring before I can soak up everything they have stored in their brains. Cheers my friend 🍻

The "old engineering guard" at IBM played a significant role in holding back innovation, particularly when it came to the personal computer. That was a critical factor in IBM's struggles during the 1980s and 1990s. Because of that IBM failed to capitalize on the emerging PC revolution despite IBM's initial success with the IBM PC in 1981.

Thanks for the feedback! I see that go both ways - as I see young guys that don't want to learn the new things...don't even want to read a data sheet. I think that might go group by group. Also, engineering 30 to 40 years ago I think was different. I've seen so many companies go down hill - IMHO because they have no experience. The Bean Counters are not doing engineering any favors.

About rechargeable meters: I have an Owon handheld 3 in 1 oscilloscope, multimeter & signal generator device. I really like it's approach to power. It's s USB rechargeable device. But because it uses 18650 batteries if I ever need it, and its batteries are flat, I can change them out for a fresh set of 18650s, just like in a AA powered device. This arrangement provides the best of both the rechargeable battery and the replaceable battery solutions.

I have a Sugon soldering station because it's a hobby now. It works great, going on 9 months or so. I have 3 handles and several tips. The mid size handle is what I use most of the time. It heats up by the time it is in position. It is nice that the heat is off when on the station holder. Be careful that it is SHUT OFF when not in use. The handle barely sits in the holder so if not fully in place, and it fell out while powered up, could possibly start a fire.

I hear you! I worked at a steel company that eliminated engineers to three for 4 major process lines, one electrical engineer. They then wanted to use their VP fairy wand to turn an operator into an electrical engineer. They offered an open electrical engineer position to an industrial engineer - he is a competent engineer and he said, "What do I know about electrical engineering?" These days, programming is an essential part of electrical engineering in process control systems.

Eddie, Engineering tear down and somewhat repair/debug made me subscribe. Lately there were a lot of review vids, not my thing unless i was specifically considering that product. I did watch parts of them mostly the first part to have a feel of what it looks and how it is arranged and hope for a look inside at those glorious PCBs, i caught that curiosity from EEV blog DAVE. EEV blog is lately not that great and i ended shifting to other that are designing stuff or examining and explaining what others did. At some point a lot of product review vids replaced design content on YT and like other when i see 2-5 channels making a vid about the same product i am not going to watch them all, maybe the first one or the one when it is dissembled so EEVblog most of the time . ( this might explain also a plateau effect for you and others). Titanic video 1-2 of them would be interesting. I started to design my 400W APFC SMPS and it was YOU that got be on track since there are a few that explain how it works but not how to design it, it is sort of a involved process and finding parts is hard, i am not from the US so ordering samples from us i dont feel like an option. Not sure how i can say it nice but in a way I started my design mat behind you like in spring or something like that and now i am done with APFC and doing the LLC part where there is even harder . Like u said on paper many know how but in practice making design choices is hard ( especially since i want to avoid custom transformers and inductors). I hope it works first try ( bodge wires accepted), never did ACDC before or worked with this LVL of power.

Great video. I love the audiophile trashing. I think your idea on your knowledge reasons of the accident 😢 would give your channel a boost. The same thing is I have been doing research and any channel that has a temu reviews shoot up subscribers. So people subscribe it's easy 😂 . And im all for cheap meters. All I need 98% of the time is to read voltage resistance and current. Is what I call good enough GE 😂. And all the younger generations are stupid if they don't use the seniors to learn from. Why work harder and not smarter makes no sense to me. Anyway, it's a great video. I'm looking forward to your future videos. Stay safe .

Loads and battery testers seem like a niche market. As a hobbyist, if I need to test a battery I will load it with some power resistors and measure voltage drop or build a power amp stage and pulse it with a signal gen and measure voltage drop. A hassle perhaps but I don't need an instrument I will use once. If in the power supply business a load and battery tester may be essential. The latest FNIRSI LCR Semiconductor tester is a disappointment. Would like to conveniently test SMD transistors but it seems unreliable.

Eddie, firstly I want to say I appreicate the work and effort that goes into making videos, and I don't mean to suggest any impropiety on your part, but I simply refuse to watch any product "review" videos where the product in question has been sent to the reviewer free of charge. It does not represent a realistic assessment of the product since there is an inherent bias. Additionally, I don't think a good review can possibly be made before you've even had a chance to use it for a few weeks at least. Since many of your videos consist of unboxings and "reviews", I disabled notifications for your channel. I imagine many others feel the same way, especially when dozens of other channels cover the same items at the same time. It feels sleazy somehow :/
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 11 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! I appreciate your feedback. I hope my reviews are more demonstrations of capabilities which make it obvious of what they can do and can't do. I don't think if I purchased them or bought them (selecting out of prejudice) would make a difference. I review the products before I agree to make a video - so that I know it is something worthwhile. There are a few items that I haven't made items of - because they didn't stack up... Unboxing is just so people can see what they get and how well it is packed - as it is a pain for some to return damaged goods.

Going to have to say nay on rechargeable batteries for multimeters. I have too many power tools and other electronic devices that are basically useless because they batteries no longer hold a charge, some of which haven't even seen a lot of use. Even if they do use a standard replaceable battery I'm not going to be able to run down to the nearest gas station and buy a new one like I can with AA/AAA/9V. Maybe 18650s would be a good compromise, but I have had one companies "18650" not fit in another companies device that "takes 18650s" and I still have to mail order them. Also, it just doesn't seem like I change batteries in my meters very often, I bought my 786 from Dave a few years ago and I've never changed the batteries, I don't even keep extra batteries around for meters

Manned submarine design should involve rigorous testing. I wouldn't put my life at risk not knowing crush depth and then staying well away from that, as in 50% (?). As I recall, the guy building the Titan used carbon fiber and ribs to strengthen it (?). Yes, if you have knowledge of this failure, it would be interesting. Cutting corners on unmanned submersibles may cost the end user but it is only equipment and the MFG's reputation.

It had a removable, half spherical dome made of titanium, with a thick acrylic window in the front. That was the nose, the tail was another titanium dome. The two domes were fitted to a wound carbon-fiber tube. So the thing looked like a pharmaceutical capsule. Supposedly, the carbon fiber tube failed, causing the implosion. It's speculated the window could of failed instead. Both titanium hemispheres, and the window were recovered intact.

I too have been following some of the content being produced about the Titan and how it failed. The whole operation struck me as a bit of a scam 'fly by night' (as they say) operation. The only comfort in my mind is that the speed of the implosion was faster than the human brain can process so the victims didn't suffer.

Yeah I would like to hear your opinion on the Titan, usually your quite good😃😉 I think it was the glue joint never like that flange done like that, too many different materials moving at different rates. And the way they made the cylinder was a joke! How they thought that was good practice I know you had warning from the first one it's chipped a large piece when they were testing it. and why not check it for structural failure they could have done it without ultrasound I believe it would have penetrated that deep or do both sides. You know if the files are available? they must have done some CAD computer analyzed flow when designing it I haven't seen anything on the reported clips about that, that would be good to get hold off and go through it. I can't see the CAD design would have worked on the structure like that they built, so something must have been wrong in the software analysis I'm assuming, because it should have flagged up something with the sloppy Construction design. The biggest mistake is that there's no pressure against the inside of the chamber that's a problem for carbon fiber doesn't work on the compression it needs tension, it needed to have an internal pressure that could have been done in numerous ways but no thought was given to it doesn't look like. It was a complete systems error starting with Rash elegance and narcissistic he was, the people he had as guidance he ignored and scolded and got rid of when they didn't fit his narrative. Anyway yeah do a segment or something maybe a live stream we can all put our two cents in t chew the card☺

Yes it should be rechargeable what they could do is just have a little battery pack that you can buy separately fairly cheap like power tools concept, and in the battery pack just put a connector to connect the other one to it so you can charge both of them if needed at the same time and can be charged outside of the machine by USB C. saying that one battery probably will last you a long time and in emergency you can do a quick charge for 10 minutes to get it up and running should last you long enough for the job! what's the project then? what's taxing about it? Put it out there we can do some brainstorming.

I don't watch unboxing videos. It is a waste of time. Your friend Dave and many others open equipment up - do i care about construction and circuit layout? Not really. I watch videos showing features and testing its specifications. Many cannot justify a 1GHz scope or spectrum analyzers into GHz range but if I worked into such ranges would care. I find those decices interesting only. I worked in control systems so necessary equipment is fairly rudimentary. Other equipment used in industry can be interesting such as dew point -- the '40's versions using the basic definitions and physics rather than a modern sensor. Fluke has an ultrasonic detector to locate fluid leaks (air, oil). It was just coming out before I retired in 2019 and the deluxe version was going to be around $20-30K, don't know where this ended up. Compressed air leaks cost companies lots so Fluke probably considered this when setting a price. When I first heard of UNI-T, Siglent, Rigol, etc I thought they were probably junk. I had used Fluke, HP and Tektronix equipment and was used to a certain quality. I got a Rigol scope because of price. I gave it away after 10 years of hobby use. Got a Siglent and two Rigol scopes and a Siglent 32MHz AWG. All work well. I saw a review on Siglent's DMM which has or had a flaw in the filter - when switching it in. I saw a review on UNI-T hand held DMMs and decided to chance the 8805E DMM -- very satisfied. Why buy a 20 year old Agilent 34401A which go for around $400 and have a vacuum fluorescent display -- honestly, is crappy by today's displays? That is the type of info I was looking for when purchasing equipment. Many companies cannot afford or justify R&S, Tek or Keysight. You did some presentations of UNI-T that was informative. I understand the response of one viewer with concerns about reviewing gear given to the channel. However, a presentation of features is still valid as is a comparison to another similar unit. Being free has nothing to with showing features, unless bad or poorly designed features are not discussed, which is a concern regardless of how it was obtained. I have no use for a spectrum analyzer but they are interesting. I got the cheap hand held one to play with. Same for an RF component tester. I made a tracking generatoy for the TinySA, just to do it. IMSAI-GUY got a Keysight 1GHz scope and now uses it instead of his Rigol MSO5074 or whatever it was. Both are nice scopes, one is a bargain the other's price isn't even shown on the websight - switch and bait - they show 1GHz and the price for a lesser unit. I saw TomTestTek (?) videos on the Rigol's triggering capabilities - very nice features, mine was around $1000 for the 100MHz model. I don't know where or what niches your channel could cover - or I might do it myself - no, too much work and I am retired.
