A little story about the value of buying the professional Yellow meter. After watching every one and their brother review theirs, I found one on Amazon that was dirt cheap because the box was damaged, yet the meter was fine. I was quite pleased with it, and put it through it's paces, marveling at what it could do. Some months later I was contacted by Amazon to say that Fluke was recalling it due to a product flaw. Fluke sent me a voucher to send it to them at their expense for update. Away it went, and it came back two days later repaired, with a calibration certificate and a fresh battery. I cannot envision any other company doing such a thing. I'll likely own it the rest of my days.

Thanks for this great feedback! Recalls are typically done because of a safety concern and are enforced by the safety agency. Well the safety agency expects it for the company to stay in good standing. Never had a recall on a multimeter so I don't know what that was about but good for Fluke to do that! I received a box like that which had a FLIR multimeter in it;) I bought it for the channel - but then it got piled away and just over a year later I found it and started to do a video - but there was an issue where one of the settings wasn't right and the battery was draining fast. I think someone did something to it and put it back in the box and returned it. I contacted FLIR and it was past their return date and way past Amazon's;) But, Flir sent me a new meter and asked me to dispose of the bad one. I think I'll do a repair video with it and see if that works. Otherwise I still have 2 sets of nice silicone leads and all the other accessories that FLIR sends for free;)

I think it's a shame that the algorithm pushes the "popular" stuff and then drowns out videos that will help you learn things. I agree review and unboxing videos are popular. However, I think one of the inherent problems with free stuff, it does make for popular content. And I think most anyone in a position of fearing they might lose access to the stuff or afraid of the possibility of burning a bridge to make this popular content will they really be willing to say negative things about it? Some people may, most people probably not. I think it also leaves creators in a rut. Ultimately I believe social media amplifies flaws in very sad ways. Though, I think we all could do more to support and amplify good learning content.

Thanks for the great points that you made. I can tell you that I like to review things before I accept them - and if I say something that the vendor doesn't like - there are plenty of others that are out there that I can review. Also, I would be just as happy if everyone liked design videos better - then I'd spend my time doing fun projects. If people would hit the like button, comment, and even subscribe - then I'd know that is what they like - but the opposite happens...I get more of those things for reviews. I'm going to try to find a good mix...

Hey Eddie, love your rants (they are not actually mean rants rather but more reasonable critics and critics is something that most people these day cannot stand huh) and I like your videos in general. Keep up the good work. I am not into unboxing at all even if those became so popular over time. I don't know why. There is usually nothing special about what else in a box apart vom the main device. USB cables, or BNC connectors or a manual huh? Nothing special for me. I do love your reviews because of the way you do them, absolutely. I think the ones you do are honest and based on your great experience, even if biased sometimes. But every viewer should be educated and adult enough to decide on her own what to do with the information you give, think about the pros and cons in their context and whether to buy versus not buy a device you reviewed, It is as simple as that. There is no individual on the entire globe who is unbiased against everything. Stupid if people think they are or can. It's just not the way humans work, but making reasoned decision is not on everyone.

I think reviews which make comparisons are probably the better because they help inform the potential buyer so that they have a better idea which make and model suites their requirements. Where I work fluke is king, so thats a good place to start, in my opinion.
@KissAnalog5 күн бұрын
I totally agree with you. It is so much easier to see how well something works when it is next to something else that is known. I use Flukes to compare too - but then I get those that say - that I should have used a different Fluke - when the Fluke that I did use was still 2x more the price. Yes, some meters that have so many features - I should compare to the 289 but that is such an expensive meter;)

@@KissAnalog its difficult to please everyone of course but broadly speaking if by comparison you can demonstrate that item A has the same capability as item B but is half the cost then that solves the equation for those that have a limited budget. The only thing with Fluke is that they seem to last for years, we have them at work 77 series, always pass calibration, take a lot of punishment, and still going after 40 years. Anyway keep up the good work much appreciated!

I'll just say for me, unless I need something for my bench, the reviews are like watching QVC TV and I'm a little burned out from it. One other thing, you might consider clearing the bench. What I mean by that is there are a look of that you might want, that you actually can do some work on the bench. Perhaps limit the bench to one piece of test gear like a DVM. Only keep test equipment in the upper part, one example would be Mr. Carlson's channel he has a shit ton equipment, but he always keeps the bench clear, from what I can tell from his videos. it gives the illusion that you actually can get some work done. If you choose to either store the surplus or sell the surplus, selling would be more advantageous to your bank account. Perhaps post an inventory list and people can bid on stuff. I for one could benefit from cheap universal oscilloscope current clamp. I don't need anything super high end for the work I'm doing. Please don't take any of this the wrong way I enjoy your channel, and you asked for suggestions and there you go.

Thanks for the great feedback! I tried to pivot from a simple review to more of a demonstration - or a hybrid at least. Something where people can see how an instrument can be used. I've also declined many requests lately for doing reviews. I appreciate you!

As you review, I would like to learn what the key differences are between models. For example, looking at a vendors bench multimeters, ranging from $250 to over $1000...what are the significant differences? I can read, but understanding the features is another thing.

Difficult balancing. Demonstration/compare/how much I need for what job etc. reviews are a great deal of work however, more valuable than the quick spec/test reviews.😅 Even more valuable, how do I figure out if the differential pair or the bias transistor is causing my amplifier to stick. So understanding is key = teaching is the most valuable! Gifted teachers spike interest and offer micro bites because excessive video browsing has us in a semi coma before we find you 😅😊

Thanks - but once I take on a project it will consume anytime that I have for KZbin. I also have family time - so I started down this path and I'm going to continue on for a bit longer. I'll see how the next 6 months go - and then maybe make the big decision. I see other KZbin folks moving on - and that makes me sad. I got used to watching their channel - and now I've started watching other channels that are just different...
