5’8” man I’m 6’4”. 7 punches hold your head still. That 4,5,6,7,8 went over my head until I read the lyrics. There are sooooo many lines in this song that get missed but I think you’re like a lot of people, Van. They didn’t know anything about MGK (at least very little-most only knew him for the song “Wildboy”) when this came out. Now you see why all of us rode so hard for him when “Killshot” came out. Coming from someone who grew up listening to a lot of Em, this song gives me mixed emotions. MGK went through hell with only EST by his side this last year. It’s so amazing to see it come full circle. He said on James Corden’s Late Late show that quarantine has almost been like rehab for him. Anyways, great reaction!

The 8 Mile line was also a reference to Em being out of the neighborhood and not going back now that he's wealthy. Even Em didn't seem to respond to it that way. I also think it's ironic when people say Em responded to every line MGK said - OK, so you're saying MGK wrote all the material in two days and all Em had to do was come up with clever wordplay in two weeks to address all the points MGK made (EXCEPT the blackball point which wasn't addressed at all in Killshot). It's just funny. I don't care who people think won or lost. You're entitled to your opinion, but so am I.

@GS-qr3om4 жыл бұрын
You don't know history. Dre was king with the "Chronic" from 1992 and when Em signed w/Dre in 1997, it gave Em all of Dre's fans. Diddy does not produce every MGK song. Dre produced EVERY song that was a hit for Em. I've been listening to hip hop since the late 70's when it came out. No blacks or hispanics listened to Em when he first came out. We were all on 2Pac, Biggie, Big Pun, Nas, Rakim, etc. Em's little squeaky voice was a turn off and so were his mysogynistic homophobe lyrics. Em had to go to MTV with Elton John in order to clean up from the homophobe label he was acquiring. I first listened to Em's STAN when it came out in 2000 or so. That's when I appreciated his skills. Only white people liked Em off the bat, the rest of us were not checking for him.
@NextMJ24 жыл бұрын
G S yea you might wanna do some more research.... Dre was struggling mightily after he left Death Row... Contrary to popular belief, Em has produced a lot of his own hits ... They both helped each other .... and many many African Americans and Latinos listened to Em when he first came out
@ReallyUnexplainable4 жыл бұрын
@@NextMJ2 They didn't help each other, Dre is considered the best producer ever, and Eminem was literally nobody in the rap world. He struggled because he isn't a good rapper, but he has always shined when making songs. Dre was still Dre after Death Row, and after picking up an unknown controversial rapper, the two blew up. Eminem's success is purely a matter of chance. Diddy, on the other hand, is not MGK's music producer, he is his EXECUTIVE producer.. which makes him the Jimmy Lovine counterpart for Eminem. It's really not a fair comparison. The diss is more than valid, as it is truthful, damaging, and hurtful.. as most rappers can claim to have struggled more than Eminem to get where they are. MGK is one of them.

If this were a rap battle, then YES, Eminem may have overcame all of his fails .........(ridiculously late response, speaking on the beef before doing so on wax, waiting 6 years to callout MGK, no video to match, no addressing of the industry behind the scenes hatred, .....and not handling this in the way of "the art of rap" from day one). He was more clever with his lyrics as expected. Unfortunately, this was never a rap battle. In the words of the late Tupac Shakur on "Hit Em Up" ...T'his ain't no freestyle battle' Like "No Vaseline" and "Hit Em Up" show repeatedly, ...there's a difference expectancy in what needs to be displayed in diss tracks (which these were). WHO,WHAT,WHEN,WHERE,HOW, ...and WHY is the beef going on in the first place. Someone's going to get exposed. Ask Drake. Eminem tried to skate all the traditions because he knew he had fan support to get away with it (or at least he'd hoped). In the end, it was Em' who miscalculated the possibilities of what could've happened when he surprise dissed a bunch of folks who he, clearly, didn't expect to get a response from. Except one did. MGK, turned out to be that dude. Not only was he unafraid of the legend ............ he apparently had a whole lot of dirt on Eminem's shady background moves made to undercut a label mate's career. Plus, he was a once proud Stan. All of these things added up to a bad situation for Em but the biggest miscue turns out to be ........Machine Gun Kelly is pretty damn good and resilient as a muthaf*cka. Eventually, his talent would overcome all the smoke and mirrors & the pieces would fall into place. Things make sense now. Pop music fans can blur out the truth because they operate from the mindset of a different culture. By their standard, these things can be decided like meaningless popularity contests. This, is rap music, which is a part of a different culture called Hip Hop. We are loyal to the culture.......not it's artists. These men weren't beefing over who's got the better bars. This was beef. There are other means of competing under those terms. This wasn't it. Under those realities, .......... Eminem lost (and it wasn't even close). I don't blame MGK for being so upset that the initial reaction was so off. He played by the rules from day one. - Never said Eminem's name until called out. - Responded within 3 days time. - Addressed and exposed all the real substance behind his beef. - Dropped a video - Came at Eminem in a way no one ever expected, including the rap god himself. - .......and did it well.
