Joke really show's off RM's rap skills, style, flow and his capabilities as an underground rapper. He didn't come to play when he released that track. Fun fact: at the last part where he says "Hit me!" Is like a call out to haters to see if they had a reply to him. HE'S THAT IMPRESSIVE 🔥🔥🔥* To explain why RM made this song : So you probably know that RM and Suga received a lot of flak from the underground K-hip hop community when they signed with an Idol company. In addition to that people would try and shade his rap skills, saying he had no skills and no flow. So he made this song as 'joke' to show off his flow and speed and also shade back on the criticism by pointing out that you can rap as fast as you want but if you're just saying nonsense then what's the point? Hence there's no hook, just bars after bars and some nonsense words like 'bibbidy bobbidy.. *Joke is an intelligent sattire for people who think rapping fast without any meaningful lyrics and flow is cool or good.* The bibbiby babbiby verse you heard him say is the joke of him dissing the mumble jumble rappers. Joke is not just "fast rap" with no meaning. RM is the KING of wordplays. He focuses a lot on lyricism, double/triple entendre and flow. He gets his inspiration from 90's hip hop if you wanna check out his first mixtape. but simply the other rappers are making fun of him because he can't rap fast and only focus on lyricism which is why he made this song for them. he said "hit me" at the end to allow others to diss him again. but nobody did anything yet. King's shit. fun fact: RM was at one point one of the top students in all South Korea, boy is a GENIUS... *In short, RM GENIUS SONGWRITER OF THE CENTURY.* His rap is not only skillful but extremely intelligent. Makes me wish I knew Korean to fully understand all the wordplay and references.

A few things to note about this song- As others have kind of said, this song seems like gibberish although it's not entirely pointless. The underground korean rap scene didn't like RM and Suga going into the idol lane. But from RM and Suga's view, it was the best way to get their voices and stories heard. At the same time though the idol world was not accepting them as idols. So it was like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. He made this song because rappers who in his opinion lacked writing / pen skills and flow skills should not have been, yet they were getting on him about how he 'doesn't rap fast' and 'because he can't rap fast he's got no skills'. So, he made this where he raps nonstop and faster that what people thought he could at that time. Another thing is that when he recorded this, RM had a deviated septum- In case you're unsure of what that is, it's when your septum is displaced- that piece is bent or crooked and leans in on one side making it much more difficult to breathe out of one nasal passage. It can also get worse and constrict both sides if it isn't taken care of. Namjoon/RM has surgery done in 2018 for it, but prior- like in this song... he managed to rap like this while having issues breathing. This is something that newer ARMYs might not know, and some older might have forgotten. RM is really impressive. Also, there's a lot of cultural things in this song- you asked about 홍대/ Hongdae, which is in Seoul. This is a place that a lot of musicians or people who want to be recognized or get noticed by hopefully talent scouts go. They busk and show off their skills but anyone can do it, and a lot of time it's just people who want attention- there's a saying that if you meet your boyfriend in Hongdae, he won't be your boyfriend for long- this is in reference to the 홍대 f-boys who hang around there and just want attention. They'll hit on girls and act interested, but if you date them you'll be the one paying for everything as these guys don't and will make excuses like 'I left my wallet' and 'I think I dropped it, oh no' (these are rough translations). They look like Kpop idols, but they're very much not- although some like to claim they are to foreigners. So RM is basically saying anyone can perform and anyone can see you- meaning you don't need skills, but the only artist you are is a con artist, essentially.

LOL. This may be my favorite reaction to JOKE yet. You talking at him like he was coming for your happiness and then you saying "hey" "he the complete package." Then later "how the hell you gonna become your own doctor, boy you ain't never gonna recover." 😭Too Fun. His delivery, his flow switches, his lyrics and he was going off on his haters who called him a Joke so he showed them he could rap better than them even if he rapped with gibberish. He rapped non-stop and said "hit me" inviting anyone else to come at him, but no one did. Wish you had the video with the proper subs. And Yeah, just a word of advice. Search up Eng Sub after whatever title for BTS you want. The Joke video with better lyrics comes up. Also you did great. I definitely don't recommend those "color coded lyrics" if you don't have to. They are almost always wrong because they try to release them so fast. Dial6137 is a great source for lyrics. As for RM in general, he went hard against haters in the earlier days but after a few years they all matured to the point of just learning to love themselves and not waste time on haters. But yeah, these songs are so impressive and fun. He gets super vulnerable and slow in Forever Rain if you want to check that out. Somehow it is still fire! But first you might like CHANGE, a collab he did with Wale. I just want to say about his earlier music, a lot of it was messages to the haters, because RM and SUGA came from underground, and they were getting a lot of hate from the underground rappers that were saying they couldn't rap, to the K-Pop industry giving them a hard time. Some of the lyric's aren't correct there is a far better one done by a fan put on the original MV and it also has explanations of some of the Korean but it's hard to keep up you have to keep pausing. Love at the end he tells them to come back at him but they didn't. Either they didn't understand or they knew they were dust under his feet.
