Forget about hiphop but rap originated on the streets for entertainment. This meant a capela or beat boxing. People didn’t have phones they were bored so they would rap and everyone would gather. Because of this the lyrics mattered more.

@@jessesfilms1269lol that is the funniest thing ever. You acting like we have the most lyrics rappers ever in 2023. You kissed the 90s now of days all we get is straight trash that people still bump cause they’re just a empty shell that follows what everyone tells them to like. The closes lyrics rapper we’ve had to the 90s is j cole or Kendrick.

I rarely even listen to rap, but I love your points about Kendrick. He has such an incredible mind, and I love the way he tells stories for the purpose of sending a message. If I may make a suggestion though, give some metal bands a listen. It's a completely different vibe from rap, but it's got it's own depth to it. Like Slipknot, Periphery, Tool, and a number of others. They tend to write songs with deeper messages, as well as creative instrumentals. They may be an acquired taste at first, but I really think you could find a kinship with metal artists.

Great video, my exact thoughts. When you're in your teens, you listen for the beat, and some cockiness in the lyrics. Now, as you mature, you look for meaning in lyrics and long-lasting music.

I think a lot of music is based on a fantasy. “I do whatever I want.” This is a fantasy that can ruin you Same, obviously, with “I take drugs all the time”. And a bunch of other tropes, including “I’m better than you and everybody else”. All really common in the top hits And it spans most genres. I first listened to rock as a kid, and there’s all sorts of ridiculous tropes that basically are a track towards mental illness. Of course, there are gems And those gems align with what you’re talking about-you actually think about what you’re saying and make good creative works That’s really the ideal and I don’t see why it can’t be like that, so let’s push towards that all the time. Why not

You should try Steely Dan. Their melodies and chord progressions are extremely technical and jazzy, the rythms are infectious, lyrics are incredible, they feature world-class instrumentalists, but ALSO the songs are extremely catchy, and feel good. My favorite album is their first one called can't buy a thrill 👍

I’ve always gravitated towards battle rap as they showcase a high level of memorization, lyrical punchlines, and stage presence. Those skill sets usually translates well into their music catalog. Most of today’s artists lacks at least one of those main three traits.

Bro just met your channel and I empathize with lots of your views. I recommend you the Russian rapper Pharaoh. The way the sounds of the slabs hits is really different and that's hooked me up at first (I'm Brazilian). Then this guy's flow is refreshing really. The song лаллипап is one of his that I like a lot. I also recommend u give a look in Korean hiphop scene. Great stuff happening there too.

Alright dude, I’ll give you some sick ass album recommendations. Trust me, I got you: “Champagne for Breakfast”, “Glass 2.0”, and “Gems from the Equinox” by Meyhem Lauren “Albert Einstein” by Alchemist & Prodigy “Adrian Younge Presents: 12 Reasons to Die” by Ghostface Killah “The Original Baby Pa” by Pete Rock & Deda Madvillainy” by Madvillain [Madlib & MF Doom] “Jazzmatazz Volume 1” by Guru These are just the random top Hip Hop albums off my head right now. In my opinion, these albums are champion examples of how Hip Hop can do so much with strongly executed basics. There’s way more shit out there, but let me know. I’ve heard so much over the years. Great content, by the way

I used to make hip hop back when drake and Wayne were poppin, I make some here and there but have been really detached from the genre in general. Might I suggest Johnny Cash, black Sabbath, Abyssinians, akae beka(midnite), prince, chirgilchin, and einar selvik. Many genres and many different artists to expand your taste on your life's road. Some tracks are hit and miss, but they all have a wide catalog to see what you like and don't like I just subscribed and I see you bro. Much love

I definitely agree with you, some of the lyrics I'm hearing nowadays are more depressing than ever, especially in rap. If you're looking for good lyrics, this might be completely out of your comfort zone, but BTS (k-pop group) has some of the most profound lyricism and storylines of any artist I've seen. A lot of their older songs are all part of a bigger story line, and it's very interesting to dive into that.

I get what your saying. I feel you. I will say tho sometimes when you listen to rap it’s not just about the words or the beat individually but how they come together and flow and create a song. and while listening to it even if something meaningful isn't being said you can enjoy the vibe of the some or the energy. how it makes you feel as an individual. also how does the music sound in your ears if you like the sound you don't necessarily need meaning to enjoy it. I also think you may feel this way because of what the culture says rap is supposed to be and because you have the ideal in you mind and you'll always compare the songs the fit that ideal to the ones that don't.

On the emo side of things, I'd recommend the album Greatest Hits by Remo Drive. It's technically midwest emo, but I doubt the two people left in the world that still listen to what emo originally meant are viewers of the channel. It was slightly interesting to see where all the modern branches of emo sprouted from, but I don't see any other value it serves. The vocals are actual pain in the example I found of it, and I was too scared to delve deeper.

Listen to his new album, GOOD NEWS. JESUS IS KING!! Wishing you the best for you on this journey, the culture promotes their agenda in these times, Drake is the best example showing how he follows trends & shows what people are on these days, the ones disappointed know he switched up to stay relevant, you know a tree by their fruits. We need God more than ever, I hope this can open your eyes that we don't have to necessarily change genres but seek artists who really for the people. ❤🙏🏽👑

To me, this years's greatest Rap album when it comes to lyricism is Porches by REASON. But especially last year, we've been blessed with so many more introspective gems. HERBERT by Ab-Soul, MMESYF by Denzel Curry, Reason to Smile by Kojey Radical, and so many more like Kendrick's new one for example. So to me, Hip-Hop still isn't dead, you just have to search more to find good stuff because nowadays everything is labelled Hip-Hop cause it sells better. So real rap is just going underground again.

Music is very subjective. And I think there’s something special about yeat, carti etc. Idk how long they will last in the game, maybe it’s just a trend phase. It will probably die out. But here is my point: Kendrick ain’t yeat. I’m not gonna listen to Kendrick to turn up, I’d rather listen to yeat. And if you think Kendrick can make a song like yeat you might be out of touch. They don’t have the same lifestyle, and that lifestyle speaks through the music. I don’t think new gen hiphop is bad, there’s bad music in old school hiphop too, with new gen hiphop it’s about different things, there are different qualities that can stand out, besides that, people like yeat and carti are talented, all they do is freestyle, and they are creative. Excuse me for the quick rant
