What an episode. I mean, I like circus ones and others, but what a spectacle :) Larian: "Can you sing?" Andrew Wincott: "Ehm... yes, I guess, why?". The man literally never sang as an actor/performer. Year after release, he performs live in a music hall with full audience. And it all makes sense, Raphael is a theater kid, a narcissist, we see him practicing poetry "until it was perfect" lol, he starts talking to us in act1 with a poem, ofc he would sing his own villain song. As far as the song goes, I think, just my personal opinion, that it is Hope and Raphael duo. Hope's part is about "mortal lives" (and all the souls that are doomed in Hells), and Raphael is an intimidation part in which he baits the party while recapping all the interactions party had with him and chances you had, but now there is "no more deals, it's over". I always thought of Raphael as one of the main villains, much more villainous and important than Chosen, even tho this is a completely optional quest overall. Like, yes, if you go you probably go for the contract or the hammer, but you don't really need to go, for various reasons. Maybe you trust the Emperor, who says you shouldn't go, maybe you never found a way to go, maybe you're ok with the deal with Raphael in a first place. And, in the end, the Hammer is just an item, you can somehow "accidentally" throw it into the chasm. Btw, yeah, there is a way to save Korilla and Hope will even address it, that her sister isn't dead and will "understand and find a way into the light" or something like that.

The House of Hope heist mission might be my favourite part of the game, it really feels like you are somewhere you shouldn't be and that sense of unease slowly morphs into dread and just keeps on building the whole way through to the final fight with Raphael. This is one of THE best experiences I've ever had in a game. I did every optional mission and left this for last because I've heard from some mutuals about it and Raphael was already one of my favourite characters anyway. Nothing could have prepared me. Every time I watch my friends get to this part, the only thing I tell them is "raise your music volume and make sure you're on standard difficulty at least" and I can just hear their jaws drop, as they stare in awe at what's occuring. Like, OF COURSE it's Raphael who gets to have a meta/break the 4th wall moment this grandoise. GOD, what a fantastic character! True Disney/Jacobian villain realized and executed.

2:16:05 I also felt that Raphael deserved a final cutscene when I beat him. I HOPE they’ll patch it in someday.
@nickrubin731222 күн бұрын
Actually agree. Even tho there are some things to be said: 1. Usually don't like boss final cutscenes after fight, since it breaks the immersion for me. Maybe just me, but if I burn a boss to the crisp, or perform some cool move in combat, I usually don't want to see either them somehow having a full-blown end speech or my character doing cool moves in the scene that are not the same moves that I performed in combat. Basically, I don't want Kai Leng type of loss/win in cutscene rather than actual reflection of my combat experience. Dark Souls experience is perfect this way, you don't have cutscenes, you have gameplay experience as is. However, for Raphael, it would be only too fitting to actually have one, and him citing poetry/singing while dying lol 2. There is a small, but very vocal, minority in the community, on some social, that treat additional cutscenes as "change of character", which is understandable, but overall wrong. Adding something new like this will create a weird discourse, not from the community at large, but a very vocal one. Like it was with "evil ending cinematics", all the branches and paths were already there, so effectively nothing has changed, but only visualization for existing paths were added, and some people just couldn't handle some of the cinematics, arguing "why would they add this", "who would do that", "it doesn't feel right". Like, at one point, they added an extended cinematic for one of the 8(!) Gale endings, for a very specific ending, and person who did it have proudly written about this on twitter on their personal account, and after that got harassed in DMs by some fans who imagined things differently (again, just an extended cinematic for already existing ending) I do hope they will add a cutscene for Raphael and some other "memorable" bosses that also kind of expected to have this, like Orin cutscene triggering only under specific circumstances and not just always, but they probably won't.

I don't get the strategy to spread out damage, you could have brought down 1 pillar on your first round AND kill Korilla, or take out 1 Cambion, which means less attacks on your group. I really hope you realize that Hope can totally banish Cambions that are still full of HP (you did! Big move!). I once casted Otto's Irresistible Dance on Raphael and it worked. 10 rounds of dancing! @TabbyVee24 күн бұрын
About halfway through you were saying that Raphael feels like its a big build up to the final boss of the game despite this whole thing being optional, and well, thats because Raphael is probably the hardest enemy in the game bar none. Orin and Gortash are pretty tough, but Raphael just has *so much*, he has insane health, insane abilities, tons of followers, a level up gimmick, he can instantly kill your party if you use Divine Intervention at a bad time during his fight, and man, it only gets tougher when you play on Honour Mode.

THIS, this one is such an amazing detail! Raphael's theme is just top tier boss theme!
@nickrubin731224 күн бұрын
> You can use a silence spell to shut him up I believe that's a community misconception, started somewhere on BG3 sub a while back. As much as I wish that was true, and same for Hope's part, and same for Raphael lips actually moving in the fight like he is indeed signing, that would be hard to execute mechanically (with all the starts and stops especially, accounting for going in and out of the silence, or direct silence effect, and so on), plus I don't think Larian thought of this in this particular case. I would say they were a bit too enamoured with their own creation for this fight to work all the corner-case devious variance.
@MizuMing24 күн бұрын
@nickrubin7312 I can go fight him when I start my game up tomorrow and directly test this. Anyone can test this. 🤨
@lr-24 күн бұрын
@@MizuMingIt doesn't work, at least the last time I checked. However, silence can actually be used in some pretty fun ways because it DOES completely prevent NPCs from talking to you. So you can do stuff like take Minthara back to Act 1 by just silencing her before she can tell you she doesn't want to go.
@nickrubin731224 күн бұрын
@@MizuMing I tested this several times (like 4 times for each playthrough I fought him) :). It is not that it supposed to work but doesn't, it is that this is a common community misconception, akin to, idk, like, Peter Dinklage winning Emmy for 4x6 of GoT (he didn't that year, Aaron Paul did for Breaking Bad, and idk why I know this lol, I'll admit it is weird knowledge to have). It would be 12/10 interactivity in 10/10 interactive game if they made boss sing his own villain song, but you could actually use silence to prevent him from singing. I wish they kind of though about it and actually did it, but sadly, it isn't an interaction that is in the game. Still, it is the best part of this dungeon and absolute masterpiece of the detail that specifically Raphael sings his own song, and what is the song. As @lr said, silence is actually lots of fun since it does prevent NPCs from talking, and anything or anyone making any sound in the area in a first place, thus silenced fireballs on the groups of sleeping enemies, or silenced explosion of the cracked wall, and so on. That's just normal interactions lol
