(please read) hi man, I'll tell you a little of my story, I started working with cars in June 2008 making polishing in the garage, in May 2009 I started doing small scratches with airbrush in bumpers, worked until 3 morning because he knew do nothing and I learned everything I know today about painting alone! only with tips from friends, it was very very difficult to learn alone ... had to redo the job, after suffering a lot and shed many tears because I could not do I've learned. in June 2010 opened my paint shop, this year I decided to buy a better gun was there that I met you and thanks to you I bought the WS400, unfortunately here in Brazil not found the pro lite, but I really like the WS400, now i see 2-3 hours every day of your videos, today started the 23 and now are 02:46, I am learning a lot with you, thank you so much for videos. My relationship is not going well, had lost the will to work, but you made me want again, every time I'm down I remember you and cheer back, thank you. I would like to one day have the opportunity to work with you. thank you man

would love too see more waterborne videos. located in northern california so we have one of the most strictest regulations in the industry. most shops now are spraying with waterborne or at least are converting. Seeing all your vids of spraying with solvents makes me miss the days when we where able to get by with doing less in the prep stage and even in the refinish stage. We sprayed with glasurit and would have to sand with 1500 on blend panels and overall over your primers and repair area before laying down the base. Love your work though and your reviews on product, just putting in a request to see more waterborne spraying and prep. i dont know if you have EPA or like the air resource board in Austraila but here all the paint need to meet a super low VOC its aorund 2.1 if im not mistaken. Anyways thanks for all your help and great videos

HI, Your very good and make this look so easy for the novice to pick up. I'm a paint sprayer and have been for around 35+ years. I agree with you about the water base paints they can be more difficult to use compared to solvent based base coat paints. I've not used the blending coat like you did here for many years tho. I did notice however that your application of the first clear coat was quite heavy, then equally for the second coat too. I've used different manufacturers paint over the years and found that applying the first clear coat at a 50% rate flash off then hitting it with one full coat works very well, and it drys better for de-nibbing and polishing too. But aside from that your very good at your work. Well done. I'd love to hear your view on your applications.

The extended drying times were eating in to my personal time and found myself doing at least 2 hours overtime every day that would have been avoided with Standox solvent, now I have more time to edit videos and enjoy life, hey the extra cash was good but now just happy having more me time. You are the first person to say they'll miss water videos, sorry but I had to look after myself this time, also for the channel we get much nicer cars at this shop, lots of classics, prestige, spot repairs etc.. To be honest man there's only been 1 time in 3 weeks I even missed water, solid red in basecoat but a ground coat sorted it easily.

I never leave it that long unless I am using water, 5-10 min usually does it with the booth set to 27c and only real time I get bad die back is if I rush between 1st and 2nd coats of clear because we are using a MS clear.

What are your thoughts on speed clears or air dry clear in terms of their gloss and durability? I do bits and pieces of work in my shed as a hobby and trying to minimize imperfections and dirt nibs in my work is hard with the MS and HS drying times and no bake ability, even with the area as clean as it can be. I use Debeer solvent base and see they have a 2:1 Speed Clear but also a 4:1 air dry clear that's dust free in 10mins, handle in 30mins they claim. Cheers mate

the blending is that just thinners and a bit of clear to make it stick or is it a special type of paint all together I use to paint cars at home been a long time i understand on jst enal and acrylic but im working out what to do with two-pac paint
@TheGunmanChannel8 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Willett it's basically clear basecoat, not standard clear at all, all basecoat paint systems have a tinter that's clear, we use Standox 599 mixed 1:1 with reducer. There are specific products with names like blending clear that are probably better because they have no yellow tinge like 599 does but used properly it's no issue, what paint are you using.
@stephenwillett848 жыл бұрын
+The Gunman I am goung to touch up some paint as I stated haven't done any for a while as I am use to acrylic or the old type enamel so I am learning on two-pac on how its done I have watched quite a lot of your videos I wasnt sure if there was something you used which is only in panel shops or its something you buy from a local paint shop
@TheGunmanChannel8 жыл бұрын
Stephen Willett You'd be going to the same places we get our paint anyway so yeah you can get it from your local paint supplier
@maidenstrat18 жыл бұрын
yes that's more or less it. I used to mix 1 part mixed laquer / hardner to 4 to 5 parts thinner (good quality thinner)spray the whole blend area the best start basing up. Solvent paint only not waterbase.
@TheGunmanChannel8 жыл бұрын
Cbf1A I wouldn't do that myself not with standard clear, base over wet clear is a recipe for disaster as far as I know, a litre of clear base is pretty cheap and goes a long way.

Hey up Gunman, Great vid Thanks! just wondering, If you'd done this exact same job in waterbase how much longer would it have taken you?
@rixsta96308 жыл бұрын
it would of been the flash times between coats that mainly slowed him down, solvent flash times are 2-3 max water can be up to 10 -15
@danjones86798 жыл бұрын
Fair point, but even prepping for water gunman was slower, having to be more critical for grease marks, sanding scratches etc, he also was using wet-on-wet primer, and I recall him saying that colourmatching due to tinter strengths was more difficult. That been said, every painter is different, as is each job and colour, which is why meant it for the gunman on that same job! but, hey if you've got an answer let me know, it took him 1.5 hours block to bake!
@TheGunmanChannel8 жыл бұрын
+Dan Jones it's hard to say exactly how much longer but I'd say easily 30 min longer and definitely wouldn't have had it done before my lunch break. A good point someone on Facebook mentioned that I hadn't even given much thought to was how everyone is going on about how water is so much better for the environment but we should spare a thought for how much more energy consumption when doing a water job. The burners are running flat out for a lot longer, the compressor is working overtime to power the blowers and solvent has the name as being the bad one for the environment, food for thought.
@danjones86798 жыл бұрын
Makes you think! also if you factor in the extra expense for water as well, possibly due to extra production expenses and therefore energy consumption. if sticking with solvent would let you do even just one job a day more I think most shops couldn't justify changing to water.
@TheGunmanChannel8 жыл бұрын
Dan Jones I'm doing more work now by myself than teaming up with the other painter before and doing minimal overtime, I felt like I was doing 3 hrs overtime every day only because of the paint I was using that could have been avoided if I was using solvent, after 3 months of doing those hours I tired of it and was a contributing factor to why I left.

Larisa Mellon The only thing I can think is that that's referring to the pressure at the cap not the base of the gun, you can also see that on the left side of the gun it says P1-12bar which is max of 174psi, I made a video yesterday and made a mention to your comment to see what any other Americans have to say about it.

As long as you don't cut through or it doesn't change the colour you could flow coat it, you'll know if the colour has changed if you spray some wax & grease remover over the panel, see this page thegunman.net.au/how-to-flow-coat/
@maidenstrat18 жыл бұрын
Why would he have mixed clear coat with the colour? was it a solid colour? I'm sure the gunman would agree with me here and say apply one at a time.

Thanks mate, the idea is to remove the orange peel (texture) without going through the clear to the basecoat, if you go through the clear you'll have to put colour over it and won't be able to blend the colour out, blending the colour hides any colour difference in the finished product.
@racerboy38018 жыл бұрын

Sorry mate you must have misunderstood what I meant, the old boss was never yelling at me. There's a decent sized list of reasons I decided to leave but the boss definitely wasn't one of them, he is a great bloke and very laid back, he definitely loved having me around and after the first week he was walking around in such a good mood saying the jobs had never been going out looking this good. The new place is closer to home, less hours and so on.

I did hear you say that but I guess you weren't referring to your last boss. Anyway, glad to see you at the old shop and back to solvent base again.

Nice work as always Gunny. Notice you're using the TE-10 cap now, down form the TE-20. I've been using it too on your suggestion some time ago, and really like the finer atomisation for my little humble shop. Really appreciated this one. Especially "more hits than Elvis". Ha ha ha.

34k.. Sprayed it today. It's a tricky one to match. Had to blend both fenders for a new front cover.

That just did not sound right. Lol. When you get to that part I alway tend to shout it out with you but this time it had me going back to listen to it again. That is your final words at the end of all your clip. Don' t change it mate. That is you. Now that you read this feedback now go and paint so shit. I just love it. lol
@TheGunmanChannel8 жыл бұрын
+Brent Nicol ok mate done, you may be a little let down in the next 2 vids because I've already used the same ending as this one but no more, I always do appreciate the feedback too.
