TOOLS I USED ⬇️ - Tape - Medium Grit sandpaper (~100 grit): amzn.to/31ybjEK - Scissors - Razor - Soft paper (Use any scrap paper. Test different types to see what works). The two papers I used in this video are #1: Canson Sketch amzn.to/2Iy9Cyp and #2: Studio brand sketchbook (I got it from the dollar store. I use a flat synthetic bristle paint brush, about a quarter inch wide. Think about it, graphite is just dark dust lightly ground into a surface. The brush acts like a broom, pushing the dust around. I lightly push into the graphite with small circular motions. If you do it right, the blend is so smooth it looks like you airbrushed it. As you use the brush you build up graphite in the brush that you can use to brush onto an area where you want just the barest hint of shading. The best part is that unlike a blending stump, there's no chance that you'll grind the graphite into the paper making it impossible to erase out and leaving behind a nasty ghost image. Make it a good brush though, I think mine is a Robert Simmons White Sable 760B. Doing this will ruin it for painting, but it will also ruin blending stumps for you!

I've just come across blending stumps after using tissue paper and a finger to blend initially. The idea of buying stumps seemed very overkill for a piece of rolled/compressed paper, especially when so much paper is used around the home. Had search for a method of making your own and came across your very useful video, thank you! Like the idea of cutting a triangle out of the rectange to make rolling it tight easier :)

The thinner the paper the better, try brown paper bag, a thin one usually found in small brown paper bags, if you continue to roll it it will continue to tighten, use the razor to sharpen and use the sandpaper to smooth the tip, it will also make it porous.
