Kevin Bacon was a Gymnast before acting. And it's a movie about a town that doesn't dance. What it!. Kevin is married to the woman that played the closer. I believe her name is Kera Sedgwick. Her name escapes me at the moment they have been married forever.
@kathleenshaw8383 ай бұрын
The movie might surprise you. The kids in this extremely conservative town were forbidden to dance. Kevin Bacon came in and got the kids to rebel. This scene is just him acting out after being punished and after having a few drinks. The actual fun dancing scenes with all the high school kids is worth a watch.

Dancing is athleticism. Strength, flexibility, precision. Ballet dancers go hard.
@alamc2003 ай бұрын
So true! And I think ballet is the most difficult type of dance due to the unnatural movements & positions - it's almost like they're superhuman. I also notice that professional ballroom dancers are in amazing shape and very athletic.

@@alamc200 I'm an amateur ballroom dancer (and totally out of shape). The pros that coached my college team ran miles every day before even doing any dancing as part of their training. It's crazy. Ballet dancers just dance for hours to train.

What is interesting is the school where they filmed "Footloose" just finished it's last year. The school was to be taken down. The students put on a campaign to have Kevin Bacon come to the last prom. It was quite extensive the campaign they put on. It was a big deal when Kevin Bacon accepted live on the Today show. That was a real bummer , all i wanted was to dance and got rejected every time. I gave up and just drank beer. (it was a 3.2 beer bar)

@@captainmoretokin2172Lashell is absolutely right. I remember going up to females trying to talk and trying to buy them a drink. Too much effect with little results. I wasn't close to being the best dancer but after I would get out there and dance and have some fun, that same female would come dance with me. It was so much easier to have a conversation after that. I would learn a few line dances, that gets you on the floor with everyone else, so it's not awkward. Also it's mostly females on the floor when a line dance song comes on.

Women have always LOVED men that can DANCE. Did you know Bruce Lee was the Cha Cha dance champion of Hong Kong? And he was proud of that. And did you know that Patrick Swayze who was in "Dirty Dancing" and a professionally trained ballet dancer and also trained in Wushu, Taekwondo and Aikido? He shows that in "Road House". Like you said there's a relation between martial arts and dancing. I've been dancing since I was a teenager - I took ballet, jazz dance, modern dance and very favorite is salsa dancing (so addictive). And when I took Kenpo Karate I found that my dancing skills helped me with fighting technique and my kata - coordination, balance, flexibility & footwork are used in both arts. I was teenager in the 1970s and we were really into dancing, all the girls loved John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. In the 1980's, I was out at the dance clubs all the time. My husband and I still go salsa or ballroom dancing - he's a great cha cha dancer too. We met at the gym, he was bodybuilding at the time and he had trained in Hapkido in his 20s so I would say he's a pretty masculine guy and a good dancer, too.

This movie was about a town that banned music due to a teenager dying in a car wreck after a dance. Then in comes Kevin bacon who loves to dance and wants to change everything. Great movie, great song! And they still play this song on almost every radio station because it transcends genres. And I am definitely the one that blasts this song in my car...dancing down the road. But this video cut the song off in the middle. Also, there are so many NFL football players that take ballet classes to get their footwork better. LOL I hope your daughters break down that "toxic masculinity" because they're is so much you are missing.

Watch Footloose, he taught another guy to dance. Back in the day musos had to try being different in every song, genres did NOT exist, you were not supposed to follow a narrow formula, to fit into a restrictive musical space to make the dj's job and cataloguing easier, you could not recycle the music, or steal/sample somebody's stuff, you has to be good at making stuff up, play well and sing better, or go home. The radio played Everything, so folks decided what was good. In aus, bands made it because the people wanted them, they came to attention playing pubs and clubs, where people danced etc. And so aussie pub rock was born. No one record exec got all of the power to decide for us.

This song takes on deeper meaning when you have seen the movie! It’s about a town that has virtually banned music after a tragic death years ago. The reverend has been in the forefront of preaching against music. His daughter has become so rebellious that her recklessness borders on suicide. A new guy in school develops a friendship with her. He also leads a movement to let music and dancing back into the town. So, the song is singing about how it’s time to shake off your blues. Kick off your Sunday (religious) shoes. If you’re restrained too much from that natural instinct to dance and feel alive, you’ll go nuts. The movie is much more of a drama than people expect.

Kenny Loggins is a great rabbit hole to jump into.

I love everything he's done. He used to be part of Loggins & Messina and their music was great too. Been listening to him my whole life.❤❤❤

Kevin Bacon referred to Footloose as his "HAM" movie. Every movie star has one & Kevin Bacon hated being call Ham.

Just FYI, Kevin Bacon had stunt doubles for the gymnastic moves and some of the harder dance moves. It was filmed here in Utah were I live. At the very beginning of this video you see the Lehi Roller Mills. My daughter works in Lehi and I pass that by every day I bring her to work and pick her up. 😊

You should check out the Loggins and Messina song, “Vahevala”. Great beach/island/summer mix song !!! And range, stay with L&M for “Danny’s Song”, “Angry Eyes” and “Your Mama Don’t Dance”.

Long time fan man. But I am YOUR generation. Footloose was about telling the machine to take a step back! Was there dancing, yep. Was there some gymnastics? Fuck yeah we all loved Mary Lou! Was there leg warmers? Of course there was. But the story? Fuck. The. Establishment!. How Gen X is that?! Watch this movie.

I'm Alright from Caddyshack is a must! Masculinity is toxic? No, some toxic behaviors that some men adopt as being "masculine" is what's referred to as "toxic masculinity."

Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse both starred Patrick Swayze.

My friend, the next time your brain tells you the masculine men don't dance, watch the pirate ballet, Gene Kelley . pure masculinity. Next option Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I was in musicals in high school. When you watch 12 guys learning how to do the bottle dance from " Fiddler on the Roof" and you realize the strength that takes, those guys were not feeling weak. And don't forget Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov in White Nights. I know you know better now. But your girls need you to have that thinking buried. And old thoughts have a way of creepy g back.Think of your Marshall arts as strategic ballet.

This is an epic movie! The kids just had Kevin back for Prom for the 40th Anniversary and the school will be demolished before the new school year. 😢Utah loves Kevin and Footloose! He’s a great guy! And this movie is going down in history 🙌🏻 Not sure what version this is but there’s better out there. The movie is a great story 😉 and remember it was the 80’s 🤣
