FOREIGNER 4 album is incredible! One of my favorite albums of all time. Lou Gramm has an amazing voice but this song is so good. So many great tunes by this band. Keep going down this rabbit hole. Mick Jones (guitarist) and Lou Gramm (singer) wrote this. Mick stated - ""That stemmed from an experience that we had, I think it was in Cincinnati. We'd gone to the arena for a sound check, and it was pouring down rain, and there were a bunch of fans waiting at the door when we went in. When we came back for the show later on, all that was left was one lonely fan, a young guy waiting out there in the rain, soaked to the skin. I thought, well, he's waiting like five hours here, maybe we'll take him in and give him a glimpse of what happens backstage at a show. And this kid was just mesmerized with everything. I saw this look in his eyes, and I thought, he's seeing this for the first time, he's having this experience. And I just imagined what was going through his mind.

My favorite song by Foreigner and one of my all time favorites ever. I had my second son around the time this album came out and I used to rock him to sleep for his nap listening to this record. He loved foreigner and that was his first concert when he was 7 yrs old. He had a great time as did I, my older son and my husband. Fun family outing for their first concert. He asked me after every song when they were going to play Juke Box Hero. When it started he was in heaven. Such a fond memory from almost 40 years ago. And by the way Lou Gramm lead singer said in an interview that this is a true story. He was the kid outside the arena listening to the band and after they became famous he noticed a teenage boy hanging out. I believe they brought him in and spent some time with him and gave him some things. I believe that‘s how the story goes.

Louis Grammatico (Lou Gramm), lead singer of Foreigner is from my hometown. Legend has it that he wrote the first line of this song remembering when he was a teenager. The Rolling Stones (I think) came to town. He went down to the venue to try and get a ticket but couldn't get in. He stood out in the rain and could hear the crowd and the guitar. This is my favorite song of Foreigner and I'm so happy they were finally inducted into the RRHOF this year.

I have called in to see her and Queen has been pumping and I could hear it outside 😂. This is the same woman who musically abused us as children in the car by listening to opera!! She started late on her rock music!! But she always let me go as a teenager to see AC/DC live with the great Bon Scott so many times in the 70’s. I still remember this concert. It was so great. They knew how to play their audience when they turned out the lights for the encore. Everyone started chanting, "Juke Box Hero." Then it got kind of quiet, lights still low, as the song started. Each time they sang "one guitar" a light burst until the light show was on and a huge inflatable jukebox started going up at the back. By the time it was full size, the band was full on rocking and the crowd all singing along, "Juke Box Hero." Anytime someone says they were underrated, I think they must be under 40 years old because anyone alive in the 80s had to know how huge this song was.
@tobiassabot58512 күн бұрын
If someone asks me "What is Classic rock?" This is the song I point to. Music, lyrics, vocals, this song is the epitome. I heard it first as a kid in an actual jukebox at a a beachside bar and grill, not n upper crust joint either. Somewhere around the early 2000's I went to Universal Studios Orlando Fl. for one of the "Mardi Gras" themed nights and these guys were the act. Most people would've thought they were old and past it by then. Hell no. These guys put on a show like it was twenty years ago. When they pulled the into for this song out the crowd got so frigging loud they had to extend the intro 3 times as long just so people calmed down enough the the group could hear themselves sing. And dude I don't know that those harmonies were layered. That is exactly what they sounded like live. They had it down. One of the best nights of my life, with my wife and her family, her dad was a huge classic rock fan.

Aging myself here. But Juke Box Hero was on SO many actual Juke Boxes back in the day. And even those old fogeys that didn't like this kind of music would stop and listen to that beginning and start tapping feet or bobbing heads for a bit. "Juke Box Hero" by Foreigner is about a boy who becomes a rock star after hearing a guitar from outside a sold-out concert and buying his own guitar to learn to play. Also Lou Gramm voice is phenomenal. Oh you poor thing. I’m Australian and my parents let me go to see AC/DC live so many times in the 70’s with the great Bon Scott in Melbourne as a teenager. I never had any musical restrictions on me ever and either did my sisters. I don’t know of one friend who was not allowed to play rock music at home. The worst we had was having to listen to opera in the car with mum which was so painful but she’s 88 now and loves Queen! I was very lucky with the parents that I got, nothing was ever censored or forbidden in the house music wise. I even had Black Sabbath (she wasn’t a fan) but I was allowed to play it at home and I still have that album. I even had a stereo in my room. I’ve never censored my son’s music either and he is a Rammstein boy.

This song starts with a solid driving rhythm and amps up in energy as the 'hero' gets his inspiration and starts working for his shot at fame, then relaxes a little bit when the 'hero' is coming out of the backstage door in the downpour, passing a 'shadow'. This reminds him of his own inspiration and journey, revitalizing his energy to compete and stay on top, rather than being surpassed by a younger, hungrier talent. It's a story of success inspiring competition, and they cycle repeating.
