Croce was awesome. It's better to watch him Live though. The bad graphics just take attention away from the lyrics. After listening to your conversation afterward, I would highly recommend Harry Chapin's Cat's In The Cradle. As dads, it will really hit you hard.

Actually if you are going to do Harry Chapin there are some others besides his most popular Cats in the Cradle. I would recommend Roses are Red, Why Do the Little Girls, he also has a lot of interesting relationship songs. Harry painted pictures and told stories with many of his songs. His use of phrases and words will blow your mind in songs like Sniper and There Only Was One Choice.

Exactly what I was thinking! Not only terribly distracting visuals doing their best to ruin the lyrics(notice there were NO comments on the lyrics midstream), but that Cat's in the Cradle was perfectly appropriate to what these guys were talking about. Actually much more appropriate than the lyrics of this song, as this song was not directed toward progeny and what it means, but Chapin's was.

His wife explained. They had a slight falling out. Jim was constantly on the road. Not making much of anything. She knew how much it meant but felt alone and was worried about where things were going. He left the bedroom where they were talking. He returned in the morning saying how so sorry he was She said he looked tired & upset. He said I wrote a song for us, & he played it as her tears fell. She later opened a restaurant called Thyme in a bottle. Nobody should apologize for shedding tears to this breathtaking moment.

Jim Croce died on my 8th birthday, Sept. 20, 1973, in Natchitoches, LA. He had just finished playing his last show at NSU and wanted to get home. The plane clipped a pecan tree at the end of the runway killing all onboard. Just imagine what he could have accomplished if he hadn't died so young.

As a songwriter, Croce's lyrics, regardless of which song, always find a way to tap into one's emotions. He does have a son, AJ, who has his own unique style of music; I hope you can tap into him sometime, too. Jim's musical partner, Maury Muehleisen was an accomplished guitarist in his own right; the two were friends and played together for several years. Both were killed in that plane crash. Their candle had only begun to light and was extinguished way too soon.

Another great talent that left us too soon. His son, now a musician, refused to play this song for many years because he didn't want to be thought of only as his father's son. But he now includes it in every show as a tribute to his father. I was in high school when this was released. He composed a lot of great songs in his 30 years. His catalog is well worth a listen. Another relationship song that is amazing is "Cats in the Cradle", by Harry Chapin. Harry was tragically killed as he drove his Volkswagen Rabbit to a benefit concert he was performing at for free. He was having car trouble on the Interstate and had his flashers on about 12:30 in the afternoon. He was struck from behind by a semi-truck. Other driver's helped him out of his destroyed car and was air-lifted to a trauma center. Unfortunately Harry bled to death from internal bleeding.

Well, this single was released in 1973, the same year Jim Croce died, and videos didn't really become a thing until MTV, which started in 1981. Reaction videos pretty much have to limit themselves to versions already on KZbin in order to avoid copyright strikes.

I visited Jim's grave in November. Its so surreal to stand at the foot of someone's resting place and then later on watch that person performing in front of many fans. Watching them sing so beautifully and then think back to how still and silent the moment was paying respects to one of America's great performers. Bottom line - we all die. Make your life the best you can while you are still able to. Make your life worth someone's else's memory. It just feels like such a lonely place when you are at someone's grave. Never forget your loved ones.

When I was around 12Y/O there was an old farmer and his wife that was celebrating their 55th wedding anniversay. I asked him how they stayed together so long and I will never forget his response. "Marriage starts out all lover dovey, holding hands and playing kissy face. Then there is a long stretch where you are just best friends and roommates. Then, at the end, if you don't give up, the last few years are all lovey dovey and holding hands again." My wife and I are now married 35 years, and it has been exactly as he predicted. I was married with one daughter and one on the way in 1972. The irony is Jim died the following year and my second daughter was born that year and 2 more daughters later.lm 72 years old now and still remember listening to all his music and his tragedy and it always reminds me of how I lived on to enjoy my life with my wife,daughters, grandchildren. Hi guys. Jim was one of the most prolific songwriters. I don't know who did this video to Jim's music, but this is a song Jim wrote as a gift to his newborn son. So the art really didn't fit it. Jim was early in his career and was sadly killed in a plane crash along with his musical partner who played guitar and sang harmony. Jim has a deep well of music out there. He has great funny songs and beautiful love songs. Jim's name was always pronounced as Cro-Chee but I saw him on an old Dick Cavett show rerun and he was asked how to pronounce it. He said Cro-Chay. If you have ever heard the songs Bad Bad Leroy Brown or Don't Mess Around With Jim, then you have heard Jim Croce. Brilliant writer and performer. The 70s was the era of the great singer/songwriter and Jim was one of them.

This song was always about my dad, how I could capture every awesome moment we had, and relive them whenever we wanted. He passed in June 2011, my fav memory with him was was in 2009 watching The Golden Girls and M.A.S.H at his house and laughing together. Putting in all those hours of work and identifying so much with this song, have you listened to Cat's In The Cradle - a 1974 folk rock song by Harry Chapin? Being a single mom, that song helped me change perspective. Time and all the missed opportunities is a matter of how we prioritize. What happens when intense feelings pull us in different directions? What really does matter most? Our actions say More Than Words (another good song by Extreme...lol).

He has some really great character driven songs, some based on people he met along the way. "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" , "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", often humorous. I would check out "Operator", it has in the first verse a way of telling a complex story of betrayal in just a few words. One of my favorites is "I've Got a Name" it's almost a personal anthem. He also has a number of lesser known love songs. Well worth the time for a deep dive, if not on YT then for your own enjoyment. Not bad for an all too short career.
