I've heard this probably hundreds of times over the decades, and still, each time, the first seconds his voice kicks in are absolutely stunning. McCartney's voice is just so smooth, so pure, so damn beautiful, it's unreal. And this song really shows it off. This song is a staple of classic rock - I'd assume known by everyone who listens to such music regularly. As for it being "a hit", apparently it wasn't released as a single, but a live version was and was a top ten in the USA. According to Wikipedia: _Although the original recording has never been released as a single, a live performance by McCartney's later band Wings, from the live album Wings over America, was released in 1977; this version became a top-ten hit in the United States and reached number 28 in the United Kingdom. ... In 2011, Rolling Stone magazine ranked "Maybe I'm Amazed" number 347 on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list._

Sir Paul McCartney is HUGE with and without the Beatles. He’s an amazing musical genius! The woman in the video, Linda McCartney, was the love of his life. They were together for nearly 30 years until her tragic death in 1998 from cancer 😢. Her passing was totally devastating to Paul. I remember hearing him quoted as saying that he “cried for a year”! It was one of the world’s greatest love stories. Fun fact: in their 29 year marriage they never spent a single night apart except for the nine days Paul spent in a Tokyo jail for possession of marijuana. This song was a huge hit in 1970, not long after the Beatles parted ways. 🌸✌️

Paul McCartney wrote this song about his wife Linda, who died of breast cancer in 1998. McCartney never wavered in his love for Linda, and even made her part of his band so she could tour with him. "Maybe I'm Amazed" was written in 1969 just after The Beatles broke up. McCartney credits Linda with helping him get through this difficult time. The studio version of this song was never released as a single (no tracks on the album were), but it is one of the most enduring songs on McCartney's first solo album. A concert version was released as a single in 1977 to promote the Wings Over America live album. Credited to Paul McCartney & Wings, it went to #10 in the US in April 1977. Peace out.

There's a live version of MAYBE I'M AMAZED that gets tons of airplay on all the classic rock stations. It's repeatedly and continually been high on all the best 100 lists of live rock recordings. Because it's from the middle of the concert, McCartney's singing and piano playing are fully charged and raw. And Wings - fantastic! Jimmy McCulloch's lead guitar absolutely wails. Also very raw. When Wings (his next band) got huge, they released a live album (Wings Over America), they released a live version of Maybe I'm Amazed as a single, that got into the top 10. This version is all Paul...all instruments (Linda sang some backing vocals). Regarding his post Beatles career, he had tons of hits, both solo and with Wings. Check out the "Band on the Run" album and song for great example of this.

Paul wrote this incredibly beautiful song for his wife Linda in 1969 after the Beatles broke up. He was having a hard time dealing with it and Linda is credited for helping him. His band WINGS was absolutely amazing. Wife Linda was a part of that band - "Band on the Run", "Jet", "Silly Love Songs", "My Love" and the classic from the James Bond Theme - "Live & Let Die". Paul has been a prolific writer since leaving the Beatles and has worked with so many artists, including Michael Jackson - "Say, Say, Say" and "Ebony & Ivory". So many songs to dig into outside of the Beatles. The genius of every member of the Beatles is undeniable. Ringo, John, Paul and George all had successful solo careers with major hits but also albums that were simply crazy good. Together they made so many incredible albums & wrote so many songs in a short 10 year period. On their own they had decades of solo efforts that is head scratching. RIP John & George. Gone too soon.

Paul is still creating new music at 82 yrs old, and still performing. Very versatile composer. He can play multiple instruments and played every instrument on this song. He has created music for movies. He has created classical symphonies. Love ballads, rock, blues, Prog rock, metal music, the list of genres goes on and on. He was the driving force of the Beatles. Ringo once said, if it wasn’t for Paul, the Beatles would have made 3 albums instead of 14, plus compilation records. The guy loves to create. Paul would call the others up and suggest they get into the studio and create songs! Oh, okay. This was a huge hit. One of his best songs. Paul also paints. And he created the Liverpool Oratorio School of Performing Arts. The Queen of England came to the opening. The first rock and roll billionaire. He’s done so many things and he has a lot of charities, too. His daughter, Stella is the infamous Fashion Designer, who designs for people who can afford her clothing. Watch the Oscars…some are wearing her clothes. His son, James, also plays guitar and has a band….as do all the Beatle’s kids. The Beatle’s kids could literally have a Beatles 2.0 band if they wanted to. Apples don’t fall far from the tree.

The Beatles were a phenomenon from 1963 until their breakup in 1970... but they never truly got their dues financially... and because their equipment was limited in the 60's, most people never got to experience them live (They played stadiums in 1966 but no one could hear them) Paul McCartney did not have the phenomenal record sales that The Beatles had, but he launched his solo career in the early 70's and built his career from the ground up without cashing in on his Beatles fame... He scored a string of gold and platinum selling records in the 70's, 80's and 90's and played arenas and stadiums since the mid-70's (His band Wings dominated the 70's) Because the sound equipment had vastly improved since the 60's, Paul McCartney got to play for millions of fans live and they could hear him and his band live. Paul McCartney did work w/ Michael Jackson and he sang on his track 'The girl is mine'... and MJ sang on his song - 'Say say say' in the 80's (Their friendship ended after MJ outbid McCartney for the rights to the Beatles catalog) That was how Paul McCartney became a legend and up there as a solo artist w/ The Rolling Stones... he just had hit records decade after decade and his audience multiplied through the years and now, he draws massive crowds at his concerts and still makes records. "Maybe I'm amazed" was for his (now late) wife Linda McCartney... After The Beatles broke up in 1970, Paul McCartney sued the members to terminate their partnership (McCartney did not trust manager Allen Klein, who managed the other 3 Beatles)... While the case was in court, McCartney's assets were frozen and he was broke... he and wife Linda had 2 kids to support and Paul went into a depression for months, while Linda had to care for the family. Linda could have left him but she loved Paul and knew that he could be a great singer again... After their daughter Stella was born (her third, his second child), Paul started to be inspired again and formed the band Wings... and he asked Linda to join the band so that they could be together on tour as a family... Linda could barely play keyboards or sing but she joined Wings to support Paul and they never spent time apart... Linda always went on tour w/ Paul. It was devastating for them both when Linda was diagnosed w/ cancer in the 90's and she passed away in 1998... Paul still talks about Linda McCartney to this day... All his love songs were dedicated to her.

This was from the first album that Paul put out right after The Beatles breakup. It was a dark moment of his life, he left the big city to live north of England, not knowing what to do after The Beatles. Paul had married Linda, who already had a daughter, which is what you see in the video. Paul was trying to find a new musical path, of "What do I do now?" phase. He went on to have a highly successful solo career and developed a huge library of solo music; very deep.

It was his first solo hit. Plus he plays every instrument himself on that whole album. By tracking each instrument in the studio.

"How big did he go, solo?" Paul's post-Beatles career was amazing. Demoralised, blamed for breaking up the Beatles and battling against the worst the critics could throw at him, he founded Wings from basically nothing and made them a top act with a string of 5 consecutive #1 albums, many #1 or top-10 singles and gigantic US and world tours. By 1978 he'd released a single that outsold the Beatles' biggest hits and remains to this day the top-selling non-charity single of all time in the UK. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Wings beat Elton John's tally of 25 top-40 Billboard hits with 27, making them "the best-selling pop act of the 1970s". As nearly as anyone possibly could have done, he put the Beatles behind him and proved himself by changing gear and doing it all over again. An astonishing achievement.

This version is from Paul's first solo album and he played all the instruments. The live version is actually a little better and was the version that became a big hit.

You nailed it!! He was despondent over the breakup of The Beatles and his wife, at the time, stepped in to rescue him. That's what this song is about. This was the standout track of his first solo album. That chromatic run kills me every time!! Chuck

The Beatles (1965 tour) were my first concert. Paul was my favorite. Then in 2002 I saw him solo in ATL and he still had it. Played on stage literally the whole show - his band got a break but that's when he just sat at the piano or on a stool and played acoustic guitar. He switched instruments throughout the concert without batting an eye.

Paul played all the instruments on that song too.
