Robert was a "pop dude" ONLY in the sense that he was "popular." If you think he is simply a pop artist, you clearly haven't heard a lot of his work. He's done some the best white R&B and soul out there. He has a great range. He even did one of the best standards albums out there by any pop or rock artists.
@infinitygirlak7 сағат бұрын
The album was named 'Heavy Nova' because he said his style was a cross between Heavy Metal and Bosa Nova. Gotta love him. His stuff with Power Station ( Guitar and Bass from Duran Duran and drummer from Chic ) was top shelf, too.

I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On- Robert Palmer. BP Robert Palmer had 2 follow up top 3 USA music charting bangers (Simply Irres and I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On) to his #1 hit Addicted to Love. He was all over the music map in the mid 80s. Love to see you react to this one as well. Keep on keeping on BP and thanks!

The way I understand it, the label wanted him to have sexy women in his videos, but he refused, wanting to have class and let his music and voice to the talking. The label kept insisting, so he went WAY over the top and had not models in all his videos.

This video inspired some shots in one of Shania Twain's video, because the looks in this video were just iconic when it came out. My dad used to say "she's got beautiful... teeth". We also need to remember there was a time before Kim K made cake the reigning beauty standard.

Ok, Pegasus. Robert Palmer is a beast. R.I.P. When the videos for his trilogy of hits included this look for the women, they were very popular on the MTV rotation. This song, in particular, was spun off into a commercial for Pepsi. The first two songs, ADDICTED TO LOVE, and the more rhythmic I DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN YOU ON were criticized for making the women look like mannequins. Or a fetish for necrophiliacs. But tgat didn't stop Tone-Loc from copying the trend to promote his hit single WILD THING. Or the Shania Twain single MAN, I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN! But don't sleep on Robert Palmer. His catalog is truly good. BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU, YOU'RE GONNA GET WHAT'S COMING, and LOOKING FOR CLUES are worth a listen. Keep going and enjoy

In his own way, Robert Palmer is the white James Brown. In fact, they have a concert together in which at one point in the show they improvise a rhythm in which each one shows his respect and admiration for the other. But Robert Palmer is a great musician with a high sensitivity and deep songs. His roots are buried in soul.

I like 1970s Robert Palmer better (but I love his 80s stuff too). The best thing I think he's ever done was "Sailin' Shoes" / "Hey Julia" / "Sneakin Sally Through the Alley" from 1974. It's 3 shorter-ish songs that were mixed to flow into each other on the album. It's got some rock, it's got some funk...it's just perfect. Most reactors only do "Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley" but you're missing out if you don't include "Sailin' Shoes" & "Hey Julia" because they were mixed for the album to segue perfectly into each other.

His career was going downhill when John and Andy Taylor of Duran Duran decided to form a splinter group and randomly chose Robert Palmer as their singer cause they couldn't get the actual singer they were looking for (can't remember who it was?) So after the collaboration with John and Andy in their new band called Power Station, it led to the revival of Robert Palmer's career including this song later on.
