Linda's dad was German-Mexican and her mother was German-English. She grew up in Arizona near the Mexican border. Her Mexican Grandfather was a big influence on her and she grew up singing the Mexican songs he taught her. Her whole family was into music and her dad was actually a big band (swing) leader at one time. Linda is an amazing talent and a master of many musical styles including Rock, Country, Broadway and show tunes, Mexican Folk, Big Band, as well as soft easy listening torch songs. You should check out the albums she did with the Newson Riddle Orchestra. She was the highest paid woman in music at one time and was the most successful Female artist in the 1970's.

If you loved this one, you absolutely have to react to her rendition of "Desperado". The Eagles wrote and released it, but (as the story goes) after Glenn Frey heard her do the song he allegedly told her the song was hers from then on. Not sure if that's true, but once you hear her version of it you have to believe there could be some truth in it! Go immediately to "Desperado"!

Linda sang everything under the sun. She rocked out(Tumbling Dice), Mexican ballads and Mariachi (Lo Siento Mi Vida, L Charreda), old school country (The Sweetest Gift with Dolly and Emmylou), American Standards (What's New with Nelson Riddle), Light Opera (Pirates of Penzance on Broadway), Motown, lots of Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, and even Gospel (Mighty Rivers of Babylon). She was the best selling female artist of the 70s, which was something ehen you consider all the women of the era.

Her father was Mexican and she grew up in Arizona near the border. She has a lot of family in Mexico. 70 years ago (before Republicans started using immigration for political purposes) the border was a much friendlier place and her parents and siblings traveled back and forth frequently. Her Mariachi music is amazing and well worth a listen. Great reaction. Love your channel 🌺✌️ That guy with the reddish hair and beard singing backup is Andrew Gold. He’s a talented musician and songwriter. One of the songs he wrote is “Thank You For Being a Friend”. I notice you use a version of it on your channel and, of course, it was the theme song for the sitcom “Golden Girls”. 🌸

Linda was not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until after she could no longer perform due to her medical condition preventing her from controlling her vocals well. Asked what took them so long to induct her, comments were made that she sang in so many different genres that it was difficult to classify her into the rock genre. Glenn Frey of the Eagles was the person introducing her to the ceremonial audience and was asked for which genre should Linda receive the HOF award. His reply was: "ALL OF THEM"!

It's hard to explain how popular Linda was & still is. It didn't matter what genre of music you listened to, Linda was included in you're music(just like Karen Carpenter). I loved my Country Music(not the stuff they call country today) & Linda, l considered country. Everyone claims her! That's what happens when you have an outstanding voice. YOU MUST LISTEN TO Linda, Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris sing together. They are angels with amazing harmonies. They did 2 albums, Trio 1 & Trio 2. Not one song on these albums is close to being bad or just a song to fill the album. So it doesn't really matter what you pick, they're all that good. Even if you don't want to do a reaction, do yourself a favor. Listen to every song on both albums! You will think you died & went to Heaven. There's a funny story. Linda was going to sing with Johnny Cash on his show. They said Linda doesn't like to wear underpants. Well, June Carter Cash, Johnnys wife made someone go out & buy her a pair of underwear. June said "if you're gonna sing with Johnny, you're gonna wear underpants!" 😂 l can just see June saying this!

Ronstadt family history Ronstadt's father came from a pioneering Arizona ranching family and was of Mexican descent with a German male ancestor. The family's influence on and contributions to Arizona's history, including wagon making, commerce, pharmacies, and music, are documented in the library of the University of Arizona. Her great-grandfather, the engineer Friedrich August Ronstadt (who went by Federico Augusto Ronstadt), immigrated first to Sonora, Mexico, and later to the Southwest (then a part of Mexico) in the 1840s from Hanover, Germany. He married a Mexican citizen and eventually settled in Tucson. In 1991, the City of Tucson opened its central transit terminal on March 16 and dedicated it to Linda's grandfather, Federico José María Ronstadt, a local pioneer businessman; he was a wagon maker whose early contribution to the city's mobility included six mule-drawn streetcars, delivered in 1903-04. Ronstadt's mother Ruth Mary, of German, English, and Dutch ancestry, was raised in Flint, Michigan. Ruth Mary's father, Lloyd Groff Copeman, a prolific inventor and holder of nearly 700 patents, invented an early form of the electric toaster, many refrigerator devices, the grease gun, the first electric stove, and an early form of the microwave oven. His flexible rubber ice cube tray earned him millions of dollars in royalties. Peace out.

Smokey did a great job and I grew up listening to that one and his other hits. For Linda to have the guts to cover it and do such a great job blows me away. I wonder what Smokey thought of her version. I think she did him justice. Too bad they never did a duet, because breaking up, like falling in love is a two way street. Some show it, others don't.

Oh you definitely have to listen to Linda singing LA CIGARRA (Live - 1987) and LA CHARREADA with Mariachi Vargas (Live in 1989). She will blow your mind. Also check out Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville duets, especially "Don't know much" (live). Just magic. Jeanette, New Zealand

So many of Linda's hits of the seventies were of the country-rock genre, rock songs played with country instruments. Which by the way made her the most successful female artist of the decade. If there had been a group photo of the musicians that developed the genre Linda would have been front center. Linda just applied her winning formula to some MoTown and achieved a fantastic result.

Such a beautiful woman, voice, and song. She kills it. My favorite song of hers is a live version of "Long, Long Time." The expression on her face as she sings it will melt your heart.

Saw Linda Ronstadt in NYC at a concert done entirely in Spanish !!! It was promoting her album "Canciones De Me Padre" Songs Of My Father. She does NOT speak Spanish but learned verbatim the pauses, the inflections, the forcefulness, the softness in all the proper places ...my sister in law from Mexico wanted the "casette' at the time for her Mexican Mother ,thats how good it was. I didnt understand the lyrics to the songs obviously ,i dont speak Spanish. But it was so beautiful and sung with such passion i was teary throughout most of the concert! She was girlfriend to Gov of Ca back when...Jerry Brown!

You should listen to her vocals on “La Charreada”. She recorded couple of LPs of Mexican songs, her heritage. Everyone told her not to do it: Management, Record Executives, music industry insiders. She proved them wrong, just as she did when she did albums of The Great American Songbook & her time on stage, singing opera. Thank God she ignored the bean counters, and listened to herself. Now we have an incredible catalog of her music. Amazing talent. So much for you to react to. La Charreada will blow your mind.

Linda was the real deal. She could sing anything, and she did. Just pick a track from her two greatest hits recordings, or her two Mexican music albums Canciones de Mi Padre (songs of my father), you will enjoy them. She recorded American Song Book standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. She did some wonderful duets with Aaron Neville that you should hear sometime, and she was part of a trio with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris that they just called Trio. She even did a little light opera singing in a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta called Pirates Of Penzance. She nailed it. Oh, and her live cover of The Eagles song Desperado, amazing! Huge catalogue for you to explore with Linda. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂

Linda Ronstadt's cover & John Rivers' 1967 original are both terrific! I've always loved her voice and was saddened to learn that she's having to give up singing for medical reasons. Thanks for playing this & your comments.

That be so, but for the record - “The Tracks of My Tears” was written in 1965 by William “Smokey” Robinson, Jr., Warren Moore and Marv Tarplin, three members of the Miracles. The group recorded it in Studio A of Motown's Hitsville USA facility, with the Miracles' lead singer, Smokey Robinson, as producer.

Linda grew up in Tucson, AZ and yes, she is half Mexican. I was elated when she was finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Long overdue! The Eagles were Linda's back up band before they were famous, and they often would perform together at The Palomino Club in North Hollywood, CA in the mid-70's. The line would be snaking around the corner of the venue on the nights they were playing. Definitely check out Desperado, also Faithless Love and Long, Long Time.
