Hey Knox! I Mixed and Mastered this tune, along with all of toms other releases for the past few years. Your reactions are definitely my favourite, I love how in depth you go with the lyrics, flow, production, everything! A couple of things for you; you're right about the intro of the beat. Most of Toms album tracks will have 4 bars of intro before kicking off, but for the videos he cuts it just to the last bar to jump into the song as quick as possible. The album version has the full 4 chords progression of the Choir before the drums come in. I have a video on my channel taking a look at how I process distorted 808s if you wanna check that out!

"Tom is so good in front of a camera". That's so true, man. And Nova blows my mind how she makes a single backdrop look so cinematic. Don't Look Down such a good example. They literally hung pillow stuffing from the ceiling and you can call the visuals simple but if you can turn only cotton stuffing and make the viewer forget that's all that's used, that is uber talent. But for instance the scene where Tom talks about doing a fly by, he mimics shooting like a tommy gun and it's slowed down, I can conceivably think that he's firing an actual gun. Also the "peel the skin off and let the metal shine" line where he mimics peeling his forearm back, if you blacked out just his arms it would look like he's actually peeling his skin back. The guy is a dope rapper but it's obvious the man is a true artiste. He's open about his mental health issues which makes him relatable but I feel like most artistic visionaries or talented creatives have that inner turmoil because their brain operates so much differently than everyone else. And with that comes self doubt, why does nobody see what I see? Why am I so different than other people? It can be a blessing and a curse if you don't address it head on and God willing, Tom seems to possess the awareness to win that battle. What makes you different makes you human. We all have our burdens and we need to encourage one another; focus on our similarities that dwarf our differences. Another 🔥🔥 song.

The reason Tom MacDonald switched back and forth between the burning Lamborghini and the clean one, is to show you can get a Lambo by being with a record company. But you can also get it being independent. And have it your way. The reason he was dressed as a "typical hip-hop" star with the clean Lambo, was symbolic as that's what the record company want you to portray. The reason why it said "independent" on the burning lambo was to show that he did it, his way. Without any help! And the video is a great way to visually show what he is saying!

The swap between the shots Is to show with a label you have enough money you can do a music video next to a lambo, as an independent you have enough money you can burn one Edit: This isnt limited to money either, The label might not want to have a burning lambo in "their" video because they just got a huge contract from lambo to use there cars and now you cant use those headphones you like on your jog because you might be seen not wearing the ones your label are advertising. Same with shoes or designer clothes.

I think the contrast in the image of the Lamborghini scenes switching is that one is promoting a clean pristine image that the music industry wants to portray and the anarchy of the fire and graffiti signifies the independent artist burning down the system . To answer your question about the lambo. I think the scenes switching back and forth is either our realization of the music industry throughout his songs making us aware of the situation, or it is how his perception changed throughout his experience with these producers. He's quoted in other songs that he was realizing that they were corrupted and heinous. Like you said the lambo and money symbolizes the "goal" Of making it. He's burning that idolized goal. Disrespecting it to show he wants nothing to do with it. It's a massive statement from him.

I think he did the scene switches with car to show “this is what I could have if I signed” (clean car) vs “ fuck that they can’t buy me. This is what I think of their contract, I did this myself” (burning car) . He has Gucci on in both scenes. He has everything labels could have offered him, but he did it independently, no contract. He’s saying fuck the contracts and label companies I’ll rip your contract up and burn your offers
@grantpflum68444 жыл бұрын
I think Tom is showing the whip in both states to show how he COULD be, because we get to see not only the car but also Tom all shiny looking like a signed artist, then we see Tom as he chooses to be when the whip is graffitied. Dressed the way he likes, with the harder bass and bars, and always stating that he will forever be independent. This video shows the path Tom could have gone down as a signed artist, then mocks that very idea as he proclaims that he stands for something better. The thing I like most, which gives it the biggest feeling of honesty, is how much Tom put's value on money on both portrayals of himself, because lets be real being able to make bank is important to him and most artist, but he STILL emphasizes the need to stand for something more. Which I think is cool, you can have your cake and eat it too if you are willing to sweat hard enough for it.

Heard but can't verify from where I'm sitting, but the clean and pretty car is one he bought himself either for Nova or his dad (He didn't aim to keep it either way.) And the burning one that he cut up was one he was sent as part of an attempt to parley by some agent someplace. So he looked at it and said "Thanks but-" and torched it, then bought up another just as a last laugh. Think he actually had tweets about it too. Have to go back and look.

I feel like the clean car is a representation of how staying unsigned his vision can remain pure and untarnished by the pressures of major labels. The burning and tagged car represents what would happen to his message if he signed with a label. His world would be burned to the ground if he sold out to a major label.

What I think the clean Lambo vs the trashed Lambo represents is this. The clean car represents that earned it on his own, so he's proud of it. The trashed Lambo represents what his record label bought him. (If he were to sign to a label.) And basically saying "Fuck this shit! I didn't earn it, I signed my life away for it.
