Thanks Trash Talkers! The band write and release a series of comic books called The Amory Wars. The albums are concept albums based on the series of comic books. Coheed and Cambria are names of two characters in the comic books. Glad you liked the song and happy being part of the tribe!

The comic, The Amory Wars is definitely worth checking out, it's a sprawling sci-fi fantasy epic drama about the destruction of a star system named "Heaven's Fence" by the main character Coheed, IIRC...I believe the main chunks of the comics came out around the early 2000's, so it's been a while...

The 6 string gives him lead in a lower notes, the 12 string gives him dual tone for sliding rythm into lead for higher notes. Many guitarists, whom are skilled enough to play them, use it so they can change the octave of their voice multiple times during the song, and the lead stays with their vocals, instead of having low lead, high octave. Helps with the flow of the piece. Hard AF to do though.

The double neck for this song is actually used as an homage to Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. The verse riffs of the song are very heavily inspired by the Zeppelin song Kashmir.

The video version cuts out like 2 minutes of the song so you guys could check out a non-video version. It has a longer second verse and longer guitar solo. And if you felt like it, you should check out some live performances. They sound better live and have exceptional energy with the audience. I would recommend the Hammerstein Ballroom performance of this song as well as the album finisher, The Final Cut, which has a long guitar solo jam session at the end.

The double necked guitar is a normal 6-string on bottom and a 12-string on top. The 12-string guitar has 6 pairs of strings and each pair is very close together. Usually the pairs are either tuned an octave apart, or to the same octave.

If you're into comic books at all (or books because the whole story isn't in comic book format) almost all of Coheed and Cambria's music is based on the Amory War story which is written by their lead singer Claudio Sanchez. Coheed and Cambria are the father and mother of a family which are the main characters in the Amory War saga. And if you're wondering about the genre of comic, it's basically Star Wars on hallucinogens.

I'd call these guys modern progressive rock, myself. Double necks are usually a 6 and 12 string, the 12 string has 2 strings placed close to each other so you have 2 tones for each note you're playing. You can also have two different tunings on them, but that's mostly from before we had pedals and electronics built into the guitars that can change that stuff on the fly.
