Coincidentally the album this is from is 1986 is Somewhere in Time and that happens to be kind of an under-appreciated album in the band's catalog so they are going to rectify that this very year by doing a tour themed largely around that album. As a matter of fact I think they're going to play the album in its entirety which means some songs that have never actually been played live before it's going to be amazing. If you guys hear any tale of Iron Maiden coming anywhere near you you have to go see them! They are still amazing performers full of energy and endurance and the crowd is multi-generational with children and all-ages running up to people and their Geezer years out to support and up the irons.

I wouldn't be surprised to know if you guys had heard this one before. I think along with Number of the Beast, The Trooper, Run to the Hills, this is one of their most iconic tracks. Also I was wondering if the message had come across: "So understand, don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years Face up, make your stand And realize your living in the golden years" Basically, don't dwell on the past. Instead, make the most of the time while you have it and live in the now. Also gotta get to Two Minutes to Midnight, Can I Play With Madness? and one of my favorites, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner

Judas Priest, Maiden and others, are part of the British invasion Heavy Metal. This song was made in 1986 and for me the golden years ended with the Seventh Son album. I feel like this song was a celebration of all those tours around the globe they went to, I would say that is not about wasted years but a remembrance of all those years of life. The boys in Maiden were very generous to us, their fans, with their music, talent, and dedication through those years. Thank you Maiden! From a fan you made in 1985 with your Live After Death double vinyl album.

When it comes to dynamic front men, Bruce is definitely among to all time greats. However, there are 4 Iron Maiden records without him and they deserve recognition as well. The first two records with Paul Di Anno before Bruce joined and two records with Blaze Bayley when Bruce went solo for awhile. Also worth noting is Bruce's solo career. Check out the song "Tears of the Dragon" from his solo material. I think you would enjoy it.

On my way to school back in '86,there was a radio shack kind of store with a record department in the basement, where me and my friends were hanging out after school -sometimes for hours- even they had just a small selection with metal though. I remenber the day, which "Wasted Years" was released: me standing in that very store, holding the WY single in my hands and my mind trying to figure out,how to get the 5 german marks (about 3 euros) to buy this masterpiece!!! Somehow i got the money together, went back to the store, buying the single and straight away back to my room!!! I loved the song right from the spot and i remenber listen to it,day and night, till to the day "Somewhere in Time" has been released!!!! I love it!!! Thanks, Jörg And the song contains the best and most importened Lyrics, Maiden have ever been released: "Don't waste your Time, always searching for those wasted Years""

If you are wondering if it's Iron Maiden without Bruce, all you need to do is listen to their albums with the other singers. Paul Di'Anno was the lead singer on their first 2 albums "Iron Maiden" and "Killers". In the 90s Bruce left the band for his soolo career and they released 2 albums with Blaze Bayley. The best song from these has to be "The Clansman". I think it's the only song from that era that they perform with Bruce as well.

Iron Maiden has always been bigger than people realized and is even bigger than what is perceived here. Even after this poll. People need to realize that Maiden was NEVER an airplay band. We're talking a few songs making the airwaves throughout their entire history until they became classic rock. Iron Maiden is played more on reaction channels today than they were ever played on the radio when radio was the only avenue. Queen? Metallica? Tool? We're talking massive play on the airwaves. The bands during this digital age? A couple clicks on KZbin and you can listen to the new release of almost any band. It cannot be overstated that Iron Maiden, throughout their prime were not on the airwaves. Even today, across these reaction channels, their triumphant sound keeps lifting them towards the top. The positive energy created by their music compared to almost all the other big metal bands cannot be overstated. Nightwish is in a genre that also plays to positive energy. RUSH was able to do it on the progressive side of heavy music. It is something that is very difficult to do without being cheesy. It is much easier to be badass and/or dealing with angst. It's what propelled RUSH through their staggering career in the face of impossible odds and it did the same for Maiden. Still Life is probably the best example and one of hardcore Maiden fans favorite song's. An uplifting song about nightmares. lol

There were a few stories from the gulf war about soldiers putting loud speakers onbtheir vehicles and jaming metal music. while in battle or rolling through towns. One tank commander of his tank group had his tankbwired up and he was a hard core metalhead and played slayer and hard core death andvghrash metal songs. One tank crew in another played the trooper as they drove into battle on loud speaker. When i heard about that one I thought how fitting. Seeing a convoy of tanks and Bradley's advancing playing a song about charging troops.

Being a music nerd, I was always caught by the way the vocals resume while the guitar solo is still wrapping up. A small thing, but something you don't really hear a lot. We tend to focus on the performances but remember, all of this was designed, planned out, thought through and practiced. A lot of work goes into "a few seconds here, and a minute there".

I’m agree Smokey! Maiden is the Metallica of the NWOBHM. Sabbath was first but they were completely different. This is the band that came from them and bridged the gap from the 70’s to Metallica in ‘83. Maiden was still bangin in the 80’s though. They were peers with Metallica in early 80’s and have just as big a catalogue.🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘 Listen to the Piece of Mind album! Where Eagles Dare, the Flight of Icarus, Die With Your Boots on!

Maiden wasn't part of the original big four when it comes to metal/hard rock. When it comes to metal/ hard rock, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin were the main ones, having coming and releasing their debuts in the late 60s. The next generation, some call it the New Wave of British Heavy Metal would be bands like Maiden and Priest, forming in the 70s and releasing their signature albums in the early 80's. Then you have your 4 from thrash of Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. So short version short, Maiden and Priest bridged the gap between Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to Metallica and Megadeth. And then bands like Pantera were inspired by both Sabbath and Metallica. Heavy metal has about as many generations as there are styles of metal it seems.

Bruce is still Bruce without maiden - chemical wedding and Accident of birth (2 of Bruce’s solo stuff) are great. Infact, chemical wedding won metal album of the year in ‘98. Bruce’s voice is insane and as a frontman there’s very few, if any that do it better. Metallica went mainstream for a while, hence the blow up in popularity. Maiden NEVER did, had no air play and is still fucking massive.

To a lot of us OG Metalheads, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden were/are at the same level. When they both first really hit, the divide of "which is better" seemed to be right down the middle. The two of them were really in their own category and did a ton to take this style of heavy metal to the top.

Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth are the big four for thrash. Looking for an early days of metal big 4 I would go straight British heavy metal: Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Motorhead and Deep Purple (who are classic rock, but are widely considered one of the forefathers of heavy metal). Judas priest would easily be my top choice for the 5th spot
