@52ndWarhawkGerbil3 жыл бұрын
The thing about Alex Lifeson is that he is more than capable of playing really busy, virtuoso guitar parts, and he displays this skill on multiple occasions. However, he was more focused on fulfilling his role in the song. Geddy Lee and Neil Peart both played very melodic, busy parts and if Alex was playing that way too the music would be too muddled. His skill was more in choosing to play chords and chord voicings that were very unconventional for rock music. He laid down the harmonic framework for the music and knew to stay out of the way of Geddy and Neil because he knew that if all three of them played the same way the music would be crap. A quote I’ve heard before about Alex Lifeson goes something like “Many guitarists played parts that seemed impossible to play, whereas Alex Lifeson played notes you would never have thought to play. He is a very intellectual guitar player and his skill and virtuosity is very subtle and nuanced compared to someone like Steve Vai.

I’m totally here for the Rush rabbit hole. I saw them in Feb ‘92 for the “Roll the Bones” tour. What an excellent show. So much audience participation. The energy was so infectious.

I'm stoked that I got to see them life in Puerto Rico. As a hobbyist drummer, Neil has been a huge influence to me. His departure was very sad to me and as I type this, I get emotional. Rush is a fantastic group and their music it timeless. RIP, Professor.

the washing machines are Geddy's joke, he doesn't use stage amps, so he finds things to put on his area of the stage just to be funny. This tour was washing machines, which he would occasionally pull a tshirt out of and throw into the crowd. Other times he had those big chicken roaster things like from Boston Market, or more vending machines.

Alex is an amazing guitarist. He just keeps playing and playing and playing. A lot of people will look at other guitarists and say "I wish I could play like that", but a lot of guitarists listen to Alex and say "I wish I had thought of that!" He is so imaginative and talented. This isn't common knowledge, but Rush would put on a concert, and afterward Alex would be back in his hotel room and would play his guitar to unwind. He just plays and plays and plays.

Geddy pipes his bass, keys, and pedals through the house sound, removing the huge amp stack behind him, so they began filling up the space with popcorn machines, dryers, etc... and they kept doing the dryers for every tour after. This is a recent tour, within the past 12 years (R30) with the band in their 50s. Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist, passed away a few years ago from cancer. This video is a medley of some of their best songs over the years. Take the plunge down the Rush Rabbit Hole, and you'll have a new sub here. RUSH ARMY IS HERE!

Your Rush rabbit hole awaits...Alex Lifeson is perhaps the greatest yet most underrated guitarist of all time...I am certain that by now others have told you that the intro was a compilation of some of their greatest early songs intros. These guys were perfectionists. When they put a song together they would have it perfect, period. Live and studio were often exactly the same minus the crowd. Thank you for covering this great band....please do more!

Oh, my!!! You are the first reaction to catch the fact that the dryers are mic'd! SUBSCRIBED! Yes, it goes along with the other comments about "visual balance" on stage. They used to toss t-shirts to the audience. They said "from dryer 1, 2, or 3." 😆🤣 IIRC, this intro covers the albums Rush, Fly by Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, and Permanent Waves.

This intro is a montages of a lot of there early song that they don't play much anymore. This is from their R30 video that you need to check out.

Rush will practice thier show in entirely prior to the show. These guys are perfectionist. You just heard the intros to several songs prior to Spirit of the Radio. The man's face on the screen was Jerry Stiller from Sienfeld. He was George Castanzas dad. He was a good friend of Rush and a die hard fan.
