ST are legends. The Rocky George era is so killer. Suicidal Tendencies, if defined, is not necessarily meaning wanting to outright kill yourself....its more like wanting to do things that may result in a suicide, like taking a high risk that could end your life. Suicidal Tendencies formed in 1980 and their self-titled first album come out in 1983. They were almost skater punk in the beginning. The singer, Mike Muir, grew up in Venice, California which was a skating mecca back in the day. The album that "You Can't Bring Me Down" was off their 1990 album Lights...Camera...Revolution! This album was their first Thrash Metal album. It mixes the best of their Skater Punk sound with the power, speed, and anger of Thrash Metal. The lineup for this album included Rocky George and Robert Trujillo. George's thrash riffs and Trujillo's bass lines are what made this album my all-time favorite Suicidal Tendencies album. Trujillo has been the bassist for Metallica since 2003. If you are looking for other songs to play from ST, Institutionalized is probably their biggest hit. Others to try "Nobody Hears", "Gotta Kill Captain Stupid", "Lovely", "Give It Revolution", "Go'n Breakdown", "Possessed to Skate". "Subliminal". Also, they are definitely not banned in Los Angeles. This is the band's hometown and they still play here on a regular basis. I think Mike Muir is the only constant member at this point, though.

So I don't know if you two actually read these, but as a teen in highschool when they dropped thier first record Suicidal Tendencies it was pure punk. Short songs with just powerful riffs that stood above most other punk bands back then. Exceptions...Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys. After thier debut record is when they became an enigma beyond what anyone else really had heard. Thrash rap is what I can think of. It's in its own category. They were kinda the grandfather's of whatever this sound is. Alot of people were pissed because the punk sound was infectious. When they went thrash it turned alot of people off, but gained a different audience. Luckily I have been there from the start. Mike Muir has seen alot of different line ups in his band, but they are all fire. This band is an absolute original. From the depths of the ashes grew a great Phoenix!!!Suicidal Tendencies!!!! Check out "Subliminal " or "Won't fall in love Today". Off the first record. You can do both because they are so short.

They were more hardcore/punk when they started in the 80's and they went in a more thrash direction on this album. They were a punk/thrash crossover band. Their early days were straight punk influence, but with the inception of speed/thrash a handful of punk band started dipping their toes in the heavier faster thrash sound. Crossover thrash is a genre of music that blends punk and metal. Some of the most important bands in the genre include Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I. There were many rumors of the band members as well as their friends and followers being involved with gangs (especially Venice 13, Mexican-American gang in that area), with Muir's trademark blue bandanna and violence at the band's performances as evidence. In their original lineup photo, which can be seen inside their self-titled debut album, drummer Amery Smith is wearing a flipped up hat and under the bill are the markings "V13", thought to be initials for Venice 13. Smith was not a member of V13 and the hat worn in the photo was borrowed from V13 member Steve Mayorga, brother of Suicidal Tendencies bassist Louiche Mayorga.
