This song was written by Paul McCartney. His mother, whose name was Mary, died of cancer when he was 14 and some years later, in the sixties, when he was having a lot of turmoil in his life, he had a dream in which she came to him and told him that everything was going to be ok, just let it be.

That is one of the reasons I love this song so much. I lost my mother when I was 14 as well and for years whenever I dreamed about her it was always a nightmare. One night when I was in my early 20's I had a dream about her where we met at a coffee shop and just talked for hours. I haven't had a bad dream about her since. It was very similar to this song in which she just told me that things would be alright. Great song and one that really resonates with me.

Let It Be is purely a Paul McCartney song. He was inspired by a dream about his late mother. Paul's voice was never better. Iconic organ from Billy Preston and an amazingly beautiful guitar solo by George Harrison. Ringo's drumming, as always, is on point; I love the tone of his drums. The song itself is an anthem and a philosophy, a rare combination. I lost my beloved mom a little over two years ago. You don't have to forget or give up something to let it be but you can accept a loss/situation and try to move on.

Dylan introduced them to pot around '65, and they got introduced to acid in '66. Good to see you so moved by the song, Hollywood. Paul wrote this after he dreamed of his late mother coming to him in a dream, while he was dealing with the heartbreak of the problems going on within the band. She told him to "Let it Be", and that everything would eventually work out ❤

So sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing that moving memory. I hope you don't mind me highjacking my reply for a bit of a (now) humorous story: My brother sort of got that in reverse. Our Mom died suddenly in 1994. At the time my brother was a drummer for a bar band in San Diego. He assured them he would be ok to play that night. But at one point they unthinkingly launched into Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here," heh. He played through tears, and accepted their profuse apologies afterwards!

Notice the drumming in this song by Ringo. Next level at the time. The guitar work and use of instruments in this song show how they continued to change and grow through the years. Many bands could not change, but the Beatles usually led in many ways.

Before the matching suits and before the Beatles became the Beatles, the Beatles were more like a delinquent subculture group called the Teddy Boys. It was their managers and producers that wanted them to soften up their image and make them more appealing to a broader audience. Supposedly Bob Dylan introduced them to Grass. I think it was probably Little Richard when they shared a dressing room in Hamburg, Germany. It was a dentist who later on introduced them to acid and music changed by leaps and bounds. The Beatles are credited for creating at least ten music genres

I think you should do “A Day In The Life”, “Helter Skelter”, “Eleanor Rigby”, “Strawberry Fields”, and “Here There And Everywhere” by The Beatles. It will give you a little inkling of how diverse their music was. They are impossible to pigeonhole into any narrow category because they didn’t stick to just one genre of music.

The Beatles were an English rock band from Liverpool who recorded hundreds of songs during their career. The group's "main catalogue"-songs released between 1962 and 1970-consists of 213 songs (four of which exist in different versions): 188 originals and 25 covers. Sgt. Pepper topped the UK charts for 23 consecutive weeks, with a further four weeks at number one in the period through to February 1968.[210] With 2.5 million copies sold within three months of its release,[211] Sgt. Pepper's initial commercial success exceeded that of all previous Beatles albums.[212] It sustained its immense popularity into the 21st century while breaking numerous sales records.[213] In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked Sgt. Pepper at number one on its list of the greatest albums of all time.[163] Wikipedia.

Dylan introduced them to WEED in 1964, and in 1965 the Dentist of John and George, during a dinner party were dosed LSD as a surprise in their coffee. Ringo joined their LSD club a few months later and Paul, after a year, gave in, and got in trouble when a journalist asked him if he ever did LSD, he told them the truth and preferred they didn't report it , saying it was their responsibility to not advertise that fact. They would be responsible for giving their fans the "drug" image. During a dream, Paul's mother who passed 12 years earlier from cancer, came to him and told him to put down his problems and relax, or let them be.

You were very close with Rainbow! Rainbow's Richie Blackmore was a founder of Deep Purple and played in that band with Coverdale. This is an amazing song, but the Beatles had so many bangers. The song is about the approaching split of the Beatles, and Paul being visited by his dead mother in a dream, saying "just let it go, things will be all right" - but I like your interpretation. Sorry to hear about the pets - they're family and deserve to be grieved.

This was a great live, thanks guys! you could do an entire week or two or three of just really great Beatles covers, it’s truly remarkable how much great music they put out those four crazy dudes... And earlier on your podcast you were talking about Helter Skelter, it comes up from time to time with you guys and I always think to tell you this story but never got around to it… so the first time I ever heard Helter skelter was from Pat Benatar, I loved it and assumed it was her song… couple years later Mötley Crüe put it on their album Shout at the Devil and I remember thinking man these guys are awesome I can’t believe they’re covering Pat Benatar! A few years later I’m trying to tell my mom how cool Mötley Crüe is that they’re not just all gimmick they have great songs and they cover cool people she was just cracking up…didn’t mind bursting my little bubble and informing me that it was actually a Beatles song lol… in the end we had to agree that both Pat Benatar and Mötley Crüe were cool for covering Helter Skelter 🤘🏼🖤😎

This song isn't just about "world" peace, it's about peace, period. It's about staying in your lane and chilling out with the drama. The young girl who was killed on the cross country trip by her boyfriend had a "let it be" tattoo. Great reaction to one of my favorite bands and songs! I grew up in the 1960's and was introduced to the Beatles by my dad, who was a professional jazz musician. Usually it's the kids who introduce rock music to their parents, but not in my case. 😂 Others might have mentioned this here, but the Beatles--and especially Paul--became a fan of Aretha Franklin after her 1967 debut album and, according to the online music magazine, Far Out: (Quote): "...when Paul McCartney wrote ‘Let It Be’, he sent an acetate demo to the singer (Aretha Franklin) in the hope that she’d record it, which of course she did." She was actually the first to record it for an album, about two months before the Beatles. So in a sense that's the original recording of Let It Be. She did it as a gospel song, which is how I've always thought of it--and how it was presented in the Beatles-inspired movie, Across the Universe. She also recorded other Beatles songs, like Eleanor Rigby. Far Out magazine goes on to say that Aretha "...went on to record further covers of Beatles songs such as 'The Fool on The Hill’ and ‘The Long and Winding Road’. When Franklin died on August 16th, 2018, Paul McCartney said: 'Let’s all take a moment to give thanks for the beautiful life of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of our souls, who inspired us all for many many years.'"

Eternal Classic. This song dropped when I was three years old or thereabouts. I remember hearing it playing on the radio at the Dairy Queen my father took us to after church one Sunday morning. The "Mother Mary" line stuck out for me at the time when I was learning church stories and such. The 2007 jukebox musical film, Across The Universe, used a powerful gospel version of "Let It Be" to highlight it's dramatization of some of the social strife experienced in the US in the 1960's. Check it out when you can.

Love this song. So beautiful and meaningful for different reasons to different people. But you killed me with the Yokozuna. That's what I'm gonna call her from now on..😂

This is my favorite Beatles song. It became even more special when my grandmother, whose name was Mary, passed away at age 91 in 2021 due to COVID. I think of her each time that I hear this now. ❤❤❤❤

Hey, guys, keep going.... Any band or popular rocker from the mid-60s until cassettes then CDs took over. The order records were released was not as important as the order of the songs on the record. But, album covers were another layer to experience kinesthetically and visually and auditorily. More feels! Deep Mojo.

My first concert was the Wings Over America, tour of Paul McCartney and Wings, in the Kingdome on the floor, I was 17, Paul, Linda, and Denny Lane sat on stools at the edge of the stage and played some acoustic songs, Blackbird was one and then it was just Paul…and he opened with Let It Be, and you could’ve heard a pin drop after the initial recognition of the song, and a huge rush went through the Kingdome.

1. The Beatles were never called a 'boy band'. That term is a very recent term and refers to synthetic / produced or manufactured groups of (often talentless) idiots. 2. The band were not hippies. At all. They often refuted this. You don't need to be a member of the hippy crowd to want peace - said John. 3. They were, instead, exploring psychedelic music, psychotropic substances and blues, and soul as well as harder edged music which began to influence their own, wonderful style. ❤ James from Liverpool, UK 🇬🇧

They went to India to study meditation with the Maharishi Yogi. I think all this makes them the original "Hippies".

It was Paul’s mother (Mary) who would tell him, when he was young, to Let It Be because he worried about things.

A lot of people think that "Mother Mary comes to me' is a religious reference. But it is actually about a dream that Paul had where his late mother (whose name was Mary) came to comfort him in a dream.

The angelic harmonies entering at 9:11lend a mystical quality to the song. Billy Preston's entry on organ at 9:50 takes the tune to church. For some magical reason, this arrangement provokes an emotional response. Brilliant!
