YES! This was my first Tool show ever! Lewiston Maine July 98! I remember it was about 300 degrees in that tiny arena (which, fun fact, is also where the iconic Muhammad Ali-Liston photo was taken) This was the night Tool became my favorite band of all time.

The thing I love about Tool is the way the music tells this insanely complex story. A story that can be interpreted in different ways to have different meanings to each individual listener. What other band does this so consistently and with such incredible music to go along and set the tone of the story so perfectly?

I saw them for the first time live in 1997, in the Christchurch Town Hall Auditorium, which has the most amazing acoustics. They opened with this song and it set the night up so right. Maynard came out painted blue and UV painted eyes over him and just in boxers and as he sang "Prying open my third eye" the UV pained third eye appeared on him. It blew my mind, best Concert ever!

It is incredibly rare to see a Tool performance recording this high quality! They rarely ever released official Live content (a new one from a 2001 show should be coming to DVD soon!) so a lot of the time, the live videos you'll see are fan recordings. There's a handful of Pro-Shot clips out there, the Sober clip you guys first reacted to is one of them.

I saw them in a club in Cincinnati called The Garage.. It was everything you imagine it was. Biggest problem back then was none of us knew the lyrics. From what I understand, this audio was sourced from the soundboard - in other words, someone who had physical access to the engineering equipment recorded the audio directly from the source during the concert. Any audience noise is actually being picked up by Maynard's mic - I think! Soundboard audio is, for obvious reasons, preferred to camcorder audio.

The audio is from the official Salival recording, but believe they spliced it together from a fan bootleg of the actual show. Salival was pretty much just some live and rare recordings along with some interludes (Harry Manback 2 and LAMC) that didnt make the Aenima album The DVD/VHS that came with Salival only had their official music videos at the time (Sober, Prison Sex, Stinkfist, Aenema and Hush). You guys have heard everything from Tool now. Have you heard Stranglehold by Tool? The cover of the original Ted Nugent's Stranglehold. Its amazing. I have only heard it here on ytube on a live album created by, I think a fan, called Strangling Kalamazoo. It is a live album of one of their concerts in the 90's. The song Stranglehold starts around the 23 minute mark. The whole album is awesome and the quality is great for a live album made by an outside source. If you haven't heard it you should check it out. You will see it if you search Tool Strangling Kalamazoo.
