I don't know if Ford has a regular cab, short bed frame that is .11" thick to handle the stress of the extra torque from the motor available to use at this time. Looking back, the Panther platform had a significant re-engineering effort with the release of a stronger hydro-formed high strength steel chassis in order to handle the the addition of the 32V InTech V8 in the Mercury Marauder. My assumption has been that Ford has been saving the SWB, high output EcoBoost truck for the finally of this generation of the F150, but I am thinking there might be more engineering to bring together a package that can be covered under a standard warranty.

CNBC had an article about why there are high end trucks like this. Ford, GM and RAM are making these for luxury car owners getting out of the sedan market. Those buyers don't care if its $100k, they want the interior, all the goodies and the news toys. Yeah $100k is a lot for a truck, but then when you are trading in a $100k or more sedan, a $100k truck is probably a bargain..

Haha yup! I'm up north Canada along the Rockies. Most people have a compact suv or bigger. There aren't a lot of cars out here. I do use my truck for work. 99% of the time it's from my house to the office. The other 1% is down oilfield roads to go to site. They can be really really muddy and cleaning up leather is easier than cloth. But trucks are definitely getting out of control on the pricing. I think anything more than a lariat or whatever the base model is to get leather for dodge or gm is more than anyone could really need. Massaging seats? No thanks. Cow Hyde leather? I don't care. Faux leather is fine 😀. 360 camera? Most of the time my trucks too muddy to use.

I never really understood why people hate on plastic. the majority of the time they are not areas you touch. they are in visual places only and get tapped on by reviewers to show their plastic.. i dont go around my truck tapping on things and rubbing my face against parts to test their surface... the soft touch is where it needs to be. elbows hands center console... Thats all you need. I dont to rest my hand on the far top center of the dash or up by the window roll down switches... NOBODY drives like that. So please keep making plastic insides. i want my money to go to the engine and drive line.. not a padded dashboard!

Two things bug me about this truck. 1 you cant get a smaller wheel size, so harsher ride, worse snow traction with the tires they use for 22s, and more likely to damage rims. 2 they put that damn limited plaque on the center armrest right where your elbow goes.

I really thought this truck was going to be MUCH faster than this. But, it looks like to handle all that power, this version of the F150 has been laden it with an HPP frame and 9.75 rear diff (which explains the payload capacity of this truck). At the end of the day, you are probably looking at less than a second difference in 0-60 times when compared to the "ringer" F150 Lariat with tow package in the 2019 Ike Gauntlet. Compared to a Max Tow Platinum or loaded King Ranch, I would say this would be a little more than a second quicker. I don't think that 1 second in 0-60 times is really worth the $6K increase in the price tag over a Max Tow model. And honestly, if you are looking for speed, the 5.0L in a 2 wheel drive regular cab short bed STX is the way to win at the drag strip. This, on the other hand, is a truck for bragging rights at the country club on Friday Evening and pulling a $75K boat to the lake on Saturday.

How is the top of the line engine in the top of the line truck shoving the ecoboost down your throat? The platinum is almost exactly the same truck and you can get a 5.0 in it. Regardless, they have 5 different engines that can go into an f150.....choose one.

Just like with the Raptor you can easily gain 100 horsepower with just a cold air intake and an ECU tune too. Cheap but highly effective way to tune and gain significant horsepower. With more expensive upgrades like a larger intercooler or turbos those horsepower numbers can easily surpass 600 horsepower.

For me it was the putrid brown cow interior. Big no go. I went with the platinum (black interior) and I'll tune it and be on par with the limited. I love it so far and I am a 40 years driving GM guy. I bought it for the low corrosion aluminum due to Michigan winters (rust proofed too) but the 3.5 is a sweet bonus! Twins!! Oh and the forscan is really nice. So many little things you can do with it.

Also according to most long term owner surveys it smokes both Ford, and Chevy in terms of reliability. It also has the highest resale value of any vehicle on the market. But, if payload & towing is what you need then look elsewhere. Gen 2 Wes definitely better then the Gen 3.

That’s nice. I would have waited to get the 2019. I ordered the 2018 in August. It came with so many problems. Paint flaw, lane keep assist not working, windshield wipers not detecting rain and not functioning properly, and windshield wipers not returning to resting position on defrost pads. When I asked the dealership to fix, they sent it to a mechanic and the Ford app alarm went off. Turns out my brand new truck was hit while not in my possession. As of today, Nov 5th, I still don’t have my Limited Edition truck even though I have been stuck paying for it since September. I haven’t received proper delivery of my truck.

I have test drove the new Ram twice. Each time (different dealers, 3 months apart) something went crazy with the big display. The first time, driving down the road, the whole thing went black and was unresponsive. 2nd time it just started scrolling through menus and wouldn't go to the one selected. As others have said... FCA quality is piss poor. My preference for interior is the King Ranch... somehow it never gets talked about anymore because of the Platinum and Limited. I do wish the Ford display was higher resolution (doesn't need to be bigger).

I had a 1987 Toyota pickup, got stolen two years ago, looked at Ford, Toyota, Nissan, ended up getting a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. Good goddamn I love that truck!

I'm sorry, but there's nothing about this truck that's interesting to me. Wheels are too big, two-tone interior is hideous, price tag is 'crack pipe', engine sound is atrocious, styling is too overdone (especially grille and tailgate), 1100 pound payload...Ugly and useless.

Ride in a h/o 3.5 and you will change your mind. Bte, i currently own a 2015 larait with a 5.0. Im a v8 guy, but there is absolutely a place for a 450/510 engine in a half ton. Regardless of cylinder count.

beautiful truck but playing engine noises through the speakers is silly. is there any way to turn that feature off? TFL makes a huge deal out of exhaust sound which would never occur to me when choosing between vehicles to buy. does the difference in truck or car exhaust sound these days make a difference to anyone? i remember the 1970's mustang, olds 442, pontiac formula 400, and old t-bird sounds, and the actual rumble of the engines, but those days are gone and putting such an emphasis on it these days is goofy.

the old cars sounded like that for mechanical reasons (cast iron blocks, intake, firing order, valves, cams, etc) and vehicles have advanced way beyond those times, so playing motor noise through the stereo and tuning exhaust notes now to sound throaty is just vanity. it serves no mechanical purpose other than nostalgia. i still have dreams of some of those old cars today, but it would never occur to me to have engineers go out of their way to make a modern vehicle feel and sound like that, or that it would ever affect my choice between what modern car i would buy.

lol....that's a funny comment considering Dodge's "all new innovative chassis technology", back in 2009 was essentially an Eleventh Generation Ford rip off. Their newest braced/boxed frame and outboard shock design was literally stolen from Fords outgoing 2004-2008 model....and it still had all the rigidity of a rubber band. lol

I purchased the 2018. The upgrades are nice but not sure if it’s worth an extra 5k. Would like to know what duel exhaust systems they run as most aftermarkets are too loud and I don’t care for the truck to sound like a musclecar.

I spent 6 months researching trucks to make sure I got the best bang for my dollar. I drove every single truck, multiple times. The worst was the Titan so lets get that out of the way. It came down to 2 trucks. Ram and Ford. Chevy slipped through the cracks with the piss poor 5.3 engine. Ram was extremely nice but the Ford won with the ecoboost. I know, I didn't take the ecoboost seriously at first either. After driving the f150 I knew why Ford was pushing these engines. Insane power and pull with no turbo lag. More torque than the v8s!?! Paired with the new 10-speed auto, the powertrain on the Ford is 10 years ahead of the competition. Chevy may have brand loyalty and Ram may sound great, but the F150 is absolutely incredible. Just drive one and see for yourself.
