In my are N. CA would be lucky to get $200 for it. I saw a Honda 3 wheeler in about the same shape with an 85 CR500 in it for $500 a few months ago, but it sold pretty quick. I know whoever bought it just wanted the engine.

The cases themselves look good, but they're not hard to find or expensive. You can re-chase threads and or use helicoils if needed. Internals are readily available. Cylinders are not cheap, but not unobtainium either. Head looked good. Honestly might be able to salvage that cylinder with a re-sleeve or big bore. It's salvageable. I'd be looking at every option and part needed to get it running/restored versus what a running/restored trike would cost to buy. She's worse than rough. Good luck with it! Looking forward to the next vid on this one.

You can use a heat gun for resorting plastics because it brings the original plastic to the surface, even if you do plan to replace them, it wouldn’t hurt to try.
@jimhimes3506

Heat gun and a thinner/linseed oil mix after do wonders for old plastic. Especially for what people want for old plastic nowadays. Got an old ke 100, the plastic was pretty whited out looking. Rear fender no better than what I had was around 75$ on eBay. Came out pretty good with a little sanding/heating/coating. Have done a couple bikes now. Takes time but worth it imo

I've cracked open a few rusted stuck engines and what I've found is that rubber mallets are best left to normal engines that are just slightly stubborn. Best results I've had is with a 8-10 inch piece of 2x2 pine with a good 2-3 pound hammer or a solid hard plastic dead blow. The wood wont damage metal and still has a solid jar to it. But you got the job done. My first thought was engine swap, but rebuilding lets you know what you have in it and that its done right. Would love to see a frame up restore and would give you lots of content. Either way enjoyed the video!

When you pull the spark plug and a moth flies out, you know its been sitting for a while. Bike had its own thriving ecosystem inside. Also, your ability to work on things without cursing is top notch. When you got the bike outside and started swinging the rubber mallet at the head with 2 hands, I know you were close. We may have gotten the edited for TV version.

Remember riding on a three wheeler on a farm in Tennessee in '85 when I was 8 with my friend's dad. We hit a curve so fast I thought for sure we would flip that I closed my eyes. Never got on one again. My friend did wind up flipping it and getting hurt later on. They were banned from production three years later for being accident prone.

Always enjoy watching your content, Joe! I recently got my first tecate 3, it’s an 85 with an 84 kx250 engine, looks like you got the dirt bike engine as well. I’m finding the kx250 calls for a different spark plug than the kxt250. Also seeing a lot of parts available for these nowadays, I think you should be able to find just about anything you need. Looking forward to seeing much more on your T3 build! EDIT: now I’m not sure about the stamp on the crankcase, when I decoded mine it seemed to be a late 84 kx250 (was told that it was an 85 kx250 when I got it), but I read that all the kxt250’s were stamped with kx250. 🤷‍♂️

The stator bolt; Place the male end of a small socket extension against the bolt's head and strike it sharply with a hammer. This should loosen the bolt, if not, strike it again. Never fails me. This can even partially restore the slots in a phillip's head bolt (or a J.I.S. bolt)

As long as you have the radiator tanks, any good radiator shop can rebuild the radiators for you and it would be cheaper than buying a new one, if available.

As bad of shape as that is in, still better than the one i have out back of my shop, its a solid statue pretty much. Its about beyond fix, but been thinking about doing it this winter anyway.😮

Man I love watching him work on these old things but man sometimes I wanna tap on his shoulder and be like use the vacuum instead of your fingers. It’d work out so much better and when he first got the machine off the truck first thing needed done was to pressure wash it to have a clean working environment 👌🏼😉.

A Tecate 3 is one of those machines I've never seen in the wild. I'd love to find an 86 that complete.

i really hope you can get it running, it would be a fun machine. i have a 1984 YTM200 i try to keep it in as close to mint condition as possible. its a blast to ride. good luck. also i once bought a 400ex that has a cross threaded spark plug hole, i was able to rent the right size tap from autozone for free, and it worked.
