I purchased a 4g63 engine car about 18 years ago. And honestly I don't understand how they got a name for being unrealiable. There is not many 4 cylinder engines that can handle 27-30psi of boost day in day out. On a completely stock engine.160,xxx miles and still going. It's all about taking care of it. Not skipping oil changes or using cheap auto zone timing belts and water pumps. Yes I've had radiator hose leaks and other small issues. But honestly they're tough as shoe leather. And don't deserve the bad rep.
@b1zerkk6 жыл бұрын
Mike Brailsford don't know what you've been hearing but 4G63 is at legendary status. All the other fools that's had problems didn't do what you just stated, love my Evo and love the 4G63...king of the 4 cylinders

@@b1zerkk i know what they're all about. I have a 91 auto and a 92 manual. And you know people call them jackstand queens and DSM stands for doesn't start monthly. ECT ECT. You said it yourself. It's kids and arm chair tuner's that purchase a boost controllers before timing belt kits and new water pumps. Then it brakes and they call them piecesof shit and other things. I personally have never had major failures. I'd drive either one from Miami back home to Baltimore to visit and wouldn't have a single worry. I'm sure you feel the same way if you take good care of your evo.
@Mechanic6186 жыл бұрын
The only thing I recall from back in the DSM days was issues with crank walk when pushing some serious power.
@mikeydeshon56376 жыл бұрын
@@Mechanic618 but that was only the 95-99 7 bolt Crank with multiple peice thrust bearings. And manual transmission. The auto cars never walked. There has been a lot of research about it. It's mostly believe to be from a very heavy clutch pulling against the thrust bearings and possibly mis alignment. Because 4g63 doesn't have a pilot bearing. But honestly we will never know 💯. Many people and major shops with 7x the experience then me has never found out the culprit of this.

What a cool car. So glad all these cool imports are finally becoming legal. Kinda irks me with the slightly clickbait horsepower number title though, this car is at best only making 800hp in the top of third or fourth gear on peak boost for like a second tops with a pretty unbalanced power curve. This is realistically more like a 600hp car at best, even theb he would really have to baby it with the boost by gear/rpm. The boost would not be anywhere close to 40psi for the vast majority of any pass or that stock tranny would be toast. The important numbers are on the time slips not the dyno. Nonetheless, still an extremely cool car and the title got me to click so I guess I can't blame ya
@RCS2DIE43 жыл бұрын
Kool car but this is 100% not a genuine evo at all…. Early EVO’S were NEVER factory built in LHD.. and for the people that are saying oh its been converted to LHD. No! It’s a factory LHD Lancer/Mirage that’s been converted to AWD (which is very easy to do and is done a lot in places like the Philippines and Malaysia) and had evo running gear etc installed.. if you really know early evo’s this is very easy to tell.. in this short vid you can see the aerial is on the left A pillar. EVOs don’t have an aerial on the A pillar (RS models do but only on the right A pillar not the left) early evos also have extra bracing on the front strut towers and firewall to stop them from flexing and cracking which this car does not have. And I bet it also doesn’t have the extra bracing on the rear towers or the V brace behind the rear seat either…. Evos also don’t have the lock on the fuel door…. There are also a lot of other miss matches too.. I especially like the evo3 door trims which are of cause for RHD so in this car the front passenger gets to play with the window switches not the driver lol. Also guys if you pay attention and look at the build plate in The engine bay it quite clearly says Model-CB2A (Which is a povo pack FWD Lancer/Mirage/Colt, a real evo 2 would say Model-CE9A.. this car also says Engine-4G15 (which means this car came from factory with a 1.5l SOHC engine) a real EVO 2 would say Engine-4G63.. this car also says Transaxle-F5M21 (which is a FWD 5 Speed gearbox) a real evo 2 would say Transaxle-W5M33 which is a 5 speed AWD Gearbox…
