@@davidstaudohar6733 Glad to hear it. Sincerely glad that's the case. The public should expect nothing less. I knew lots of guys in the Air Force who could not make the PRP program for one reason or another. They enlisted them anyway because they were needed on the flightline and back shops. So even on our end those who came into contact with nukes were watched very closely. Still, sorry to say, I saw my share of Bent Spears. That was unexpected. I learned that the military is pretty much SNAFU much of the time.

I was on one of these submarines as a civilian contractor back in the 1980's. You are basically living inside of a huge, very complex machine. There are pipes, valves, wire bundles, electrical panels and electronic equipment everywhere in the ship. I didn't get to see the reactor itself but the compartment where its located is enormous. The missiles are so long the missile tubes go from the keel all the way up to the top of the sub. I've never seen that much complicated stuff all in one place.

LOL, the main mission is to get laid once you hit land! Nobody has deterring nuclear war on their mind, everyone just counts down the days until your next Port of Call! If you really care, don't send candy care packages during the holidays, send a stack of nudie mags and cartons of cigarettes! Also send nude selfie's that's what we dig in the pile of letters and care packages for, we pretty much toss aside care packages and letters from kids. I know that's rotten, but that's the real Navy when you're stuck at sea for months at a time! Everyone has this vision of the military being heroic, yeah we do our jobs, but we are far from being heroic. Your fist day on board, you won't be greeted with handshakes and hugs, you will be ignored with tricks being played on you, to see if you have what it takes. My first day on board, somebody spit tobacco on my spit shine shoes because I was trying to make him look bad!

A couple of things. Yes, this is all fascinating, but if those missiles were ever actually used, it's basically the end of the world as we know it. Also, as for the secrecy of the subs location. Actually, when on active patrol, the exact location isn't even known by the pentagon or Navy admirals. All that is known by them is a several thousand square mile area that it is operating in (which is still classified). ONLY the subs Captain and his senior officers and navigation crew knows their EXACT location when they are on patrol.

As a Machinist Mate 2nd Class, I got to go to Engine Lathe School, Oxy-Acetylene Cutting and Brazing School, Material Control School, Quality Control School, Auxiliary Package Course, Planned Maintenance and other schools I even forgot I took. lol. We did a lot of training during Off Crew periods. That training set me up to become a Test Engineer for the Quincy Shipbuilding Yard, Maintenance Supv for 3 other companies and a Production Supv for another, before I designed and patented a special tool for Overhead Lineman. So while some people might not think back favorably about their time aboard a submarine, I had a great time but I definitely had had enough of being out of touch with my family so my 7 patrols was just enough for me. The only regret I had was that I didn't take advantage of the free travel I could have taken after my patrols ended in Spain and Scotland. I could have had 30 days of travel at a time with no place to be until it was time to return for off crew training. Otherwise, no regrets.😋😋

Hats off to submarine duty sailors. Takes a special breed to work on a sub. I would require charcoal filter liners over my posterior region to absorb the foul gas odor. Have mercy!

It was inspirational but sorta tame as well. You got to live it to appreciate it.

This is awesome and absolutely terrifying. I watched a video a short time ago re: the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines like the U.S.S. Maine. These beasts are "the most destructive weapons system made by human kind." A big salute to the U.S. Navy.

But what this video doesn't tell you is that after 4-year contract a service reenlistment bonus for your average submariner is $48,000 on any rating for re enlisted people

@@lawrenceleverton7426 your kidding me ? That’s incredible , and I am glad you see it as a wonderful piece of art and my Grandfather Robert Wosak would be overjoyed at that description of the Nautilus . See his father and uncles were artists and his father Robert Wosak was an artist and one of the last court appointed artists of the hapsburg empire . You can Google his fathers artwork and thank you for the compliment . I did see a documentary about it and thought it looked so modern , saw a pic of the grand staircase and it’s on my bucket list . The nuclear submarine museum is dedicated to our grandfather. Couldn’t be prouder !!

@@lilleyprescott2448 The staircase was a first of its kind on a Submarine. And her nickname was Lola. And whatever Lola wanted, she got. She is still getting pampered.
