Well, I overpaid for my Transitional Samantha. But she’s gorgeous and her hair is minty! How fun would it be to have the DIY books that some kid actually wrote stories in! I can’t imagine many had the dedication to write all 6!

I got those blank books with my first AG doll at 6 years old, and the prospects of "writing my doll's entire story" was so intimidating to me that I put it off until I was 10 and even then, I lacked the attention span to write more than 2 pages. 😂 This is a GORGEOUS doll though, she was an incredible find!

Yes! I remember that stencil 😊 It was definitely meant for writing on the cover. I was so happy when I got my GT2 doll for my 10th birthday. I unfortunately have no idea where those empty books are. 😂 Enjoy her, she looks beautiful!!

My daughter's first edition Felicity. Definitely was worth a bit, but I wayyyy overpaid. She's the coolest doll though! I am so happy I was able to get her for my daughter.

Omggg! I forgot about the stencil! And you're absolutely right, its to make the diy girl of today books looks more professional, the first Girl of Today #19 doll I got back in January of 2001 came in the Urban outfit, with the first book and the stencil! Way to unlock a core memory 😂

#15 is the first Girl of Today I bought and the only Girl of Today I had for a long time. I didn’t even know she was rare when I bought her and her hair was and is in great condition. I paid around $40 about 7 years ago

I paid $600 for a Tonner AA Russell with braids down his back. Only 100 ever made and received at a convention in 2007, and I’ve only seen him come up one other time in the last 3 years. Most people don’t even know Tonner made a Russell with braids. Do I regret it? Absolutely not! I adore him and would do it all over again. So I understand you.

I never asked for a GOT because Kirsten looked exactly like me, so I didn't even ask my mom 😅. I haven't overpaid for a doll, in my opinion, but the most I spent was a Julie in really great condition and with her 1st edition Christmas outfit. And I only paid like $80. I would really love to have a #4 and I would probably pay the most for a doll for her. I would also like the first edition #6, a Dreamer, and maybe down the road, a white body. My $$ goal now is to save enough to get all the historicals for the 40th anniversary. I'm so glad you got your dream GOTs! 🪆

i dont know if i ‘over paid’ for her but i specifically went to the new york store over labor day weekend to choose my maryellen. i could have just ordered her online and saved the train fare and nyc sales tax but maryellen is probably the only modern doll ill buy (for space, money and nostalgia reasons) and i wanted to make sure I got the perfect one. I’m glad I did as many of them had wonky eyes which would have been a bummer to receive! the doll thing i have absolute spent way too much money on is limited outfits for my volks bjd based on drawings from a japanese fashion designer. they’re so beautifully made and based on the drawings he did the 50s which is my favorite era aesthetically. my childhood AG dolls truly primed me for a love of well made doll fashion.

As I always thought one of the best parts of collecting is the hunt and another is the unexpected. Never knew those books ever existed. Don't feel guilty spending so much after all when you publish your book it will be a write off (maybe?). lol. Now you can hunt for the original #6 and #19. My collection is mostly second hand and I feel I never over paid. I couldn't afford to. My #4 was $80. five years ago, pretty much in great condition. I guess I got lucky. I recently bought a Nanea for $100 displayed only with meet clothes and accessories thinking I over paid but unexpectedly she came with two books, catalog and poster that was given out when doll was first released. Enjoy your new doll and keep collecting!

The books are such a nice idea, I feel like it would be cute to write a story in them for/with the recipient. Just to have a snapshot about what it was like when they were in 10. My era was a few lines after this one, so it didn’t include it. I hope they do more self referential items with the Hoffman twins. I feel like 90s/00s just like you, and the American girl magazine was peak. For dolls I spent too much on, Nikolai Ken. I got him a few years after he came out, for 200$, at the time it was the most I spent on a doll? Maybe at least a used doll. I have sold many of my silkstone dolls in the past but he is not one I would give up. (Mostly because I know it would be hard to get back for that price lol) For a not great over spend, I got Galaxy Girl Poppy Parker on the second hand market, prior to her being on integrity toy’s web shop. I paid a little under sticker price, but no clothes/accessories. (Since usually they are restricted to W Club, and no way of knowing) 🤷‍♀️ what to do you know? Win some lose some.

I don't remember getting the stencil... I do remember the books though! I think when my parents got me my first 18" doll (2000) they had gone down to only including the Meet blank book but you could buy the rest if you were really dedicated? I can't remember for sure though, so take that with a grain of salt. There are two dolls my sweet mom bought for me and they weren't what anyone would consider overpaying but I remember telling her why they were "so expensive"... my 1995 Felicity (she came with all the pieces of her birthday dress in fantastic condition and I was over the moon) and for my birthday in 2017? 2018? My mom got me #4 with the second meet outfit minus shoes and socks, and the red nightgown. This was right before the prices for her jumped up so high so I think mom only paid like $170 or something.

This is random, but I saw an Addy in a "Secondhand Finds" group on Facebook that had silver eye. People were saying it looked like the doll's eye had been replaced with a camera 🤣. Yes, it may look like that, but it's probably just silver eye.

I wish more of the early #15s survived, and also that there were more than six with deeper skin tones. Not enough people are getting to enjoy them. #11 is one of the next on my list!

Sorry to hear that. I hate that to happen. I spent too much on a doll that had a sweet odor in it. I tried everything to get rid of the smell, even replacing all the stuffing. Finally gave it to a little girl who probably never noticed. Ugh!
