Back in the day, and I was on vacation in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. I,remember seeing the Reserve, (Barge Maumee).I took a picture of the Reserve,when she was sailing in Oglebay/Norton Company Colors. I,took the picture 📸 📷 of the Reserve when she was waiting to lock Down bound at the Soo Locks. And, to this very day and I still have the picture 📸 📷 of the Reserve in Oglebay/Norton Company Colors. I,took, the picture in 1995. 2:26

Awww! We missed them sounding their horns! Lol! Thanks for inserting the information about these vessels. It kind of adds contest. I would say, "Yes!" Do moe of these videos. You do a great job with them, Mr. Tenold! Hope you are doing well and enjoying the remainder of your summer.

Thanks! I was surprised it didn’t sound her horn but I did get it when she departed. Don’t have that much longer before school starts again but I have been enjoying my summer for sure. Getting a lot of work done.

@@ConnorTenold I'm glad that you've had an enjoyable and productive summer. Are you excited about starting your last year of high school? The university starts classes on August 26th and the judo club will begin meeting the next day. It'll be a bit different this year as I need to start getting myself ready for my next belt promotion which will probably happen sometime next April.

@@HahnJames What's the kind of work that goes into getting another belt?
@HahnJames5 ай бұрын
@@ConnorTenold My judo association, the United States Judo Association has a pretty standard test for every belt level up to 5th degree. There are 67 throwing techniques in judo. I have to show all of them. I have to do them nearly perfectly. I have to demonstrate a series of fighting techniques like, a set of three techniques that would follow one another in a competitive situation. Judo also has ground techniques which is what you follow a throw with if you didn't win straight off the throw in a competition. Ground techniques consist of holding techniques, joint locking techniques against the elbow and choking techniques. There are about 14 holding techniques with several variations, about 12 arm locks with several variations and at least ten choking techniques. I have to do a count of choking techniques. For every technique there is a right sided technique and a left sided technique. I'm right handed so, I'm going to have to show every technique right handed and then show half of them again left handed. Then, I have to show counter attacks for the standing (throwing) techniques, evasion and blocks. there will be as many as 20 each. Then I will have to show defenses against the ground techniques and escapes. To top off the demonstration portion of the test, I have to show how I would teach several techniques the number of which is up to the rank examiner. It's usually about five. Oh, I forgot. There are three throwing techniques that are forbidden because they are either deadly or cause catastrophic injury. I have to describe how they're performed and explain what it is that makes them so harmful. The guy who tested me for 3rd degree put me through the 5th degree test without telling me. The 4th and 5th degree tests are nearly identical. My techniques have to show a high degree of proficiency. It took around 15 hours to do my 3rd degree test. On top of all that, I have to show how much time I've spent teaching judo and whether or not I've been entering students into tournaments, hosted clinics or tournaments. This section is about how I've been giving back to judo. My throwing techniques are pretty stellar for the most part. I could stand to polish up a few of the upper level throwing techniques a bit. My problem is that I don't have a sensei or teacher anymore. I also spend more time teaching techniques now than actually doing them. I've got to change that. It would be so much more simple if I was promoting to green belt. This answer was a bit involved. I hope you're not sorry for asking. I think that doing judo would be good for you. You're at a good age for starting it.

@@HahnJames Takes a lot of discipline I can see. That's good. What are throwing techniques? I have been quite interested actually in doing self defense. Both for myself and to protect whoever my future wife might be.

Yes. As of now there are no Confirmed updates. Some speculation is that it failed inspection but there are no other sources anywhere that I can find saying that, and nowone in Duluth is saying anything about that. The news right now is that her AIS is active.

What is the point of converting these old ships into barges?
@BlueWaterRailfan4 ай бұрын
To save money, and this also lowers the amount of crew members needed to operate. In this case the Maumee (formerly Reserve) was in rough shape after years of neglect in Oglebay Norton's last years of operation. K&K (the company the owned Reserve after Oglebay) tried running the Reserve as a self-propelled ship, but the steam turbines were constantly in need of repairs, and K&K could no longer financially afford to keep the Reserve running under power, and so they cut it down to a barge. I believe this was the similar case with the Sparrows Point/Buckeye (now Menominee).
