A great video and many species whose observation on the Spanish Mediterranean coast is unimaginable. Looking forward to a new video!

But then again I am jealous of the spanish (and western palaertic) Big Day record. Last time I checkt it was 234 species in northeastern Spain. Me and four friends hold the Dutch record with 200 species, but we can't break the European record here.

@@TheDutchBirder 200 species in a single day is a real barbarity... in the Netherlands, in Spain, or in the Amazon... well, maybe not so much in the Amazon 😂😂

I know a dutch guy who lives in ecuador and is a bird guide there. He and his team got like 450 species in one day in 2017 or 2018 I think. That is as far as I know still the world record..

Dag Folkert jan,inderdaad een mooie dag voor je maar voor mij is highlight toch wel die Hermelijn!! Echt prachtig gefilmd zeg!! Groetjes Gijs
@TheDutchBirder10 ай бұрын
Niet alles was 1 dag hoor. Die Hermelijn was heel gaaf. Ik heb ze wel vaker in het gebied gezien, maar om ze zo te kunnen filmen is wel andere koek

Hey. You found very nice species at your Patch. The arctic redpoll and the rough-legged buzzard were amazing. Well done. Greets Stefan

2000 subscribers are already in sight. You put much energy in your high quality videos. Always a pleasure to watch. Now even more since you have switched to English 🙂
@TheDutchBirder10 ай бұрын
Well in this rate that would be reached in the summer, but I would be very happy if this rate continues. Glad you like the English. It's getting easier and better each video.

Hi Folkert Jan, It’s always a pleasure to watch your video’s. You must invest a lot of time in it, given the high quality! I have been birding for a year now and learned a lot from you. Do you have some advice on the (best) literature? Maybe you can also make a video about that topic?
@TheDutchBirder10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your compliment. Yes I do put a lot of time in it as I am trying te improve each video and learn something new. For literature in the western paleartic I would highly advice the Collins Bird guide. I have the dutch version in paper but I have also the englisch app which is great. Then there is also the: "handboek europese vogels" by Nils van Duivendijk. Now only available in dutch but I heard an english version is in the making. That book is an absolute birding bible, but it is to big to use as a field guide. The collins is better suited. But I now use the combination of this book at home and the collins app on my phone.

Hi Jan, outside of your patchwork challenge do you use eBird or your own database? Could you add links to other birders you recommend in Netherlands (just one or two).
@TheDutchBirder10 ай бұрын
In the Netherlands we alsmost exclusively use www.waarneming.nl Links to other bird youtubers you mean or birders in general?

How do you found out what species are common, uncommon, rare aso? Is there a public list where you can find these ratings?
@TheDutchBirder10 ай бұрын
On www.waarneming.nl you can find the rarity status of each speacies in the Netherlands. Then there are also subsites for each province for instance groningen.waarneming.nl. For my specific patch where the video is about I made my own classification based on the status of the province of drenthe and my own experience birding this area
@Revelationscreation10 ай бұрын
Never had anything 'rare' on my patch, but have had a flyover whooper swan and a cuckoo. Also have had a shag on the lakes that I occasionally visit that are close to my patch, pretty good for being 50km in land (a strange small inland irruption of them was happening at the time).
@TheDutchBirder10 ай бұрын
Not all patches are created equal I guess, but it strook me that now that I'm doing the patchwork challenge I've found two rare birds in two weeks already
@Revelationscreation10 ай бұрын
@@TheDutchBirder To be honest there's no major rivers close by and its quite far from the coast so it's not unexpected. However, my dads patch is pretty great, its a hub for some rare wintering and breeding birds and occasionally gets a few rarities (i.e. glossy ibis, penduline tit, alpine swift...).
