Interesting video, thanks! I particularly like the title: it's not you who failed to sell these books, it's the books that failed to sell! How dare they not fly to a new home? 🙂

It takes years of trial and error to understand what books will sell, and yet it remains a mystery why books we love just don't sell!!

It's because the collectible market is based on emotional stuff. And emotions are harder to predict.

Thank you Adam, very interesting pieces. I hope they'll find the right home. I love the last one, it's so mysterious and it's original artworks too. It reminds me of William Blake. My favorite piece!

Watching your videos (which I've been binging) is like watching a magician explain magic - the transparency is great and inspires respect for your trade. I discovered your channel because I bought a book that turned out to be rare which caused me to consider whether to repair and whether to sell. I'm generally aware of what sellers offer compared to a sale price and your videos helped that make greater sense, particularly when I think about the fees if I sell on my own, assuming I could obtain something close to what a reputable dealer is asking! I sometimes fall down a rabbit hole of book buying for my own enjoyment and I've had some wonderful finds (along with embarrassing mistakes). I enjoy the education that comes with it.

Beyazid / Bayazid (Be-yaz-eet). It's apparently an Arab origin name, I always thought it was from the Turkish Beyaz (white) it (dog) .. thus "white dog" because it was pretty common for Turkish Sultans, beys (lords) etc to have such names and nicknames. Although the "it" part made no sense to me since it's an insult to call someone a dog. The word "it" isn't even used for dogs anymore in Turkey, it's almost always used as an insult. Then again, in Azerbaijani Turkish the word they use for dog is still "it". Beyazid II evacuated the Jews from Spain and welcomed then at his docks.

Great video! I appreciated the diversity of the books you chose to go through. I'm dealing with a couple of books that feel to me how that 17th century manuscript feels for you in that they are quite complicated and require a lot of research to fully uncover. This is quite random, but would you happen to have any recommendation for a paleographer that specializes in 18th century French? I've got pages and pages of French manuscript that would be nice to get professionally translated. I did a cursory pass of one page on ChatGPT, and it isn't actually too bad at reading it correctly, but I need to carefully compare each line and it ends being quite time consuming anyway.

I find paleography really expensive these days . I tend just to work most through myself. . Oftentimes you pay and then the manuscript is worth 10% if the costs of the research

Any recommendations on a Harvard register 1962 with Ted Kaczynski as a student? Or would the subject fail to impress. On a more humorous note I have my father's copy of The 1st edition of The Psychedelic Review from 1963... I also saved my Dad's copy of the Little Prince... thank you for the smile

13:38 An honest question, sometimes markets like this have a lot of money laundering. Is it possible that the $2 million spike was sold just to launder money and that would be the justification why no one wants the other piece of the same story at a high price?
