Rare Breed vs Blue Run High Rye - How Good is Rare Breed Bourbon??

All this time I’ve been looking for a blue run and have never seen one in the wild. Meanwhile I have 3.5 bottles of rare breed (my daily sipper)since that’s what everyone gifts me. Now I can be no longer disappointed in my lack of findings. I’m so excited to see what else Rare breed can beat out.

I found Blue Run to be overpriced crap. In Georgia where I live it just sets on the shelf with a coat of dust on it while Rare Breed is getting harder to find.

Don't know about the rest of you guys in Americaland, but Rare Breed is now hitting $65-$70 here in So Cal, up from $55 just a month or two ago. Definitely worth it, but WT101 is looking much nicer since it's price hasn't jumped up like Rare Breed's has.

Blue Run is a great example of all these Johnny-Come-Lately bourbons that think a fancy bottle justifies a $100+ price tag for juice that's nothing special. The market is full of that stuff. My experience is that VERY FEW $100+ bottles are impressive - just a lot of hype. Way to go, Team Turkey!

I love Rare Breed immensely but I have to say that I like 1920 on the same level. I can't really pick a favorite out of the two. To me they are different and equally awesome in their own ways. I just got home with two bottles of Blu Run High Rye. Haven't tried the stuff yet but we shall see tonight.

There are a lot of startup bourbon distileries around. They all want to charge $50-$70 a bottle for their product. I've visited 2 distileries in Wisconsin, and 1 in Illinois. Rare breed would spank every one of them in a blind taste test. I told the IL distilery yesterday. You need to do some blind taste testing with your product, and price acordingly. You have no business charging those prices if your product isn't that good. One exampe Driftless glen. Now you see their bottles on clearance everywhere for $33 a bottle. I ended up using my bottle for whisky sours. It just wasn't that good. I really like the bottle they put it in. But the bourbon isn't that good. Tired of wasting money trying new bourbons that aren't that good.
