Another great addition to the series. Like lots of other commenters said, RB vs OF1920 would be a great matchup. There’s a few good matchups left, you shouldn’t limit yourself to only 5 of these.

Matt, that ECBP is running dangerously low. Either crush it or transfer it to a small sample bottle so it doesn’t air out and get stale. Ask me how I know what happens if you leave that amount of ECBP and come back to it in 4-5 months. Ask me.

Love this series! 2020 was the year I got into bourbon hardcore after tasting ECBP for the first time. I was naive and bought 4 bottles of C920 since it was my favorite (at that time thinking it was WAY too much bourbon). Fast forward two years and I wish i had bought every bottle I could lol Still one of my favorite bourbons to date

That ECBP description was spot on. A track star in 2019 “that stayed home and put on 40 pounds” but can still run pretty fast. Hopefully one day it will be as fast as it was in 2019.

I haven't tasted a pre-2020 ECBP but have tasted every one since, except A120. There are some exceptional batches in there, so if the pre-2020 batches were really that much better, I almost can't believe it.

If you can get some C919, it is spectacular. But I'll say B520 and C920 are still my favorites.

i have both of those bottles. i find ecbp to have s much more ethanol forward profile than rare breed. Matt, your exbp is almost finished. do you think that some of the alcohol has evaporated off, giving your ecbp a better flavor profile? have you noticed a change as the bottle has gotten emptier? one of the things i love about rare breed is how consistently good the flavor is.

ECBP may have won but its availability is fickle to nonexistent in many areas, let alone the new market price of $100+. Another game retailers are now playing is bundling ECBP with Small Batch, Rye and Toasted for ~$180-$200 - not a fan of those three attached bottles. It’s gotten to the point where I am holding my last three ECBP bottles unopened because only one release typically appears now for the year, if that - usually the fall release. I’ll take RB @ $50-60 as one of my dailies and open an ECBP if I’m lucky enough to get another release.

@@Briballdo it already kinda is. Rare Breed supply has gotten very spotty in SoCal. When it shows up, the inventory quickly disappears. It may take one to months before another shipment shows up. Because of this, I’m pretty sure that drinkers have started hoarding it. In most states, it seems to go for ~$40-50. The going price in SoCal is ~$55-$60. Still a good deal since it’s very good, pretty consistent in profile and higher in proof. But ECBP is approaching unicorn status.

@@Briballdo you’re in NorCal? You shouldn’t be drinking bourbon - you have all of that excellent wine and beer from up there (see what I did there? That leaves more bourbon for the rest of us). J/K I’ve heard from legit bourbon folk that most major distillers have been ramping up production and building more rick houses to catch up with demand for a while now. Makes sense - by not being able to fulfill current demand, they’re missing out on some serious $$$. The obvious problem is time. Guessing, we should see an increase of older juice in about six years. In the mean time, the games we all have to play for allocated/limited releases will probably get worse for a while.

@@OttoBoy Haha nice try! I definitely like beer but have never really been able to get into wine. I also have no idea how anyone can afford drinking nice wine. Even at ~$30/bottle the value proposition just doesn't make sense to me. You basically have to drink that in one or two nights. As for bourbon, I'm interested to see where it goes. Don't really see it getting better any time soon, but there's still plenty of solid stuff on shelves that I'm not freaking out too much. I'll grab a special/allocated bottle if it drops into my lap. But refuse to pay the insane secondary prices.

Matt, you are by far my favorite bourbon KZbinr but I have a little bone to pick on this one…I don’t think it’s a fair playing field here… you are comparing apples to oranges, or in this case, a 12 year old small batch to a 6/8/12 year blended bourbon. I can get Rare Breed for $43 anytime at my Total Wines, where IF I could find the ECBP here it would cost me at least $70. Now, if you were to compare RB to Old Forester 1920….that would be a more fair skirmish IMHO… but you are the GOAT, not me…
