Rare Car Restoration 4: fixing intake hoses and air filter box

We're back to doing what we do best, How To Videos, Fiat Punto How To Videos
This time we are looking at
How to clean a car throttle body
How to repair rubber intake hoses that cannot be replaced
How to replace and repair stripped out threads in plastic parts such as in the air filter housing box
While these issues are all found on our 1998 Mk1 Fiat Punto they can easily apply to many makes and models of car including later model Fiat Punto Mk2, Mk2b Grande and Evo.
We used quite a few parts for these repair, links to which can all be found bellow.
And just to finish off the video we reassembled everything with some nice new clamps to tie everything together.

What engine is in that? We have the fiat 1.2 8v (F.I.R.E) i believe in the Ford KA Mk2 that has high fuel consumption but no codes... the vacuum hose seems fine too

This is a 1.2 16v FIRE, 85hp your car will likely have some form of variable valve timing. When was it last serviced? Has it had new spark plugs? You could maybe follow my video on how to do a compression test to check the health of the engine

@@PuntoHowto it’s had a new timing belt 2 years ago. New spark plugs last year. No misfires. Yeah I think I will have to do a compression test but the weather is rubbish at the moment. Will probably get that done in the summer months

Hey man quick question. Is that intake hose essential to the engine? I have a Punto 85 ELX and I’m dealing with the exact same problem. I had it put together with duct tape for about two years now lol. Will I lose torque or have overheating issues if I just remove the tube?

If you remove the pipe then you will have no filtered air entering the engine as you will effectively bypass the air filter, this will lead to premature wear of the engine if it sucks in something larger it can destroy the engine instantly. Better to repair the pipe as I’ve shown in the video then it should be sealed against crap getting in
