Something strangely emotional about watching these cars rot away. I wonder if it’s just an awareness of the passage of time. Some of these cars don’t appear that old. But they are. You even remember the fanfare when some of these were launched as new models. You may not. You may think they are ancient. But one day the cars you know today will be gone too. It hurts to watch because you are seeing your memories and they are decaying, but you can’t stop yourself watching either. Lovers of cars appreciate them as art. Even in this form they remain beautiful. Superb work, thanks for the video.

Yeah very sad. Considering how sought after some of these are today it is just such a waste that they will never see a home that would love and appreciate them. I absolutely loved my first car and had it for many years, but I knew it would just take up space and wouldn't get the love it deserved so I gave it away for free so another lad could have it as his first car and enjoy it.

I'd love to know how the cars came to be here. They've been taken there over a period of many years. Its as though the cars were eventually meant to be sold, or used again by whoever parked them here. Who owns the land? There seems to be a well worn path weaving its way through most of it but it must be somewhere tucked away or the pyromaniacs would have vandalised the place long before Jonny and Beardy visited. I would love to know more.

The Jensen Interceptor; one of the coolest cars ever made, according to Clarkson - I’d agree 👍 I worked as a petrol pump attendant in the mid seventies during school holidays; an Interceptor pulled in one day with a toffy nosed guy behind the wheel. “Fill her up ol boy and check the oil” It took forever to fill and then came the oil check - I found myself fumbling for the dipstick under a huge bonnet with blistering heat radiating from that massive Chrysler engine. All I can remember thinking is don’t touch that exhaust manifold ! Those engines ran hot ! I can vouch for that 😉

After Jonny's comment on the battery holding out the next car you see is the Standard 10. My first car 1967 was a Standard 8, with 2 doors. The thing that gets me about abandoned classics is, who owned it ? Many years ago, someone may have worked their fingers to the bone of till the day they could afford to buy one of these cars new, even if it was a bit of 'Ol British Leyland chod. They would probably been so unimaginatively proud of it then and potentially heartbroken if they saw it now. It is not so much a couple of tonnes of rusty old machine lying in a field, it's an extension of someones life.

@chrisb9360 4 жыл бұрын
@@petrolthreads_ That simply isn't the case. I was in the market to buy one in the early 2000s, hence my comment. The car was a very good example going for £6000. I decided against it, hindsight showing this to be a bad move. I recall an episode of Deals on Wheels (Mike Brewers 1st TV gig) from the same era covering a similar car (found it - link below). To quote them "any classic Porsche will be very easy to sell. Whereas Jensen Interceptors, no matter how cheap they are, are not". This demonstrates the lack of perceived value that existed until relatively recently. no amount of revisionism can change that. The car in the episode is a great example at £7500. A rusty, non-roadworthy one which had made its way to a scrapyard, was a parts car at best at the time. By the same rational, Jonny's "least favorite (Golf) GTI" will be jumped on by KZbin warriors 20 years in the future as an unforgivable act of automotive vandalism. www.channel4.com/programmes/deals-on-wheels/on-demand/29708-003

Years ago, I used to deliver propane gas to a place just outside Symonds Yat, just outside Monmouth, The owner had a garage and a caravan park. And he had a seperate yard where he kept the gas. That yard was full of old cars.... mainly Rovers, from what I can remember

There's a scrap yard at rivenhall in Essex , before they tidied it up it had piles of amazing cars dating back to the 30s . 50s jags and Austins stacked on top of each other and knee deep in oily muddy sludge . It was heaven.

I always get emotional when I see a rover (vandenplas?) from the eighties early nineties if I recollect correctly. The blue one on top of that pile as a sculpture on a pedestal... my first love for cars shared with my father who loved it to bits. At one time I even “designed” (bear in mind I was not even a teenager back then) a shortened version to create a coupe of that gorgeous Rover. I even collected a second brochure to cut up and experiment with the contours of the car. And to underscore other commenters’ request: try to interview the artist who put this landscape together. And artist he is, be it “brut” or deliberate. Beautiful to see entropy in action...

My guess is that whoever owned that land and a the vehicles on it has long since passed away. It looks like it's been around 30 years since there has been any activity on that site. I must say that I enjoy seeing you track down vehicles that have been garaged by their owners, and their sons and daughters find they have inherited these gems that you bring back to life. Sadly abandoned cars that are being reclaimed by the environment are too far gone. Good to see on this video as a one off to be sure. But I love seeing the survivors leap back to life again!

This definitely looks like an abandoned scrap yard, rather than someone's hoarding habit - guessing it wasn't very commercially successful, then closed down, or the owner died and just been left since the 90's, judging by the most recent stuff there, e.g. Rover 420GSi, Ford Probe etc. I'd say 95% of what is there, is only good for spare parts by now, but oh, some of those spare parts could be the only ones in existence! - Edit: Just saw the messages from Paul Jones re: this place. Definitely the location needs to stay anonymous to avoid the vultures coming to pick valuable parts.

Been to several private hoards like that in recent years .. always the same story ... an elderly bloke who inherited the land from parents & took cars in when nobody wanted them convinced that he was going to do them up so wont sell cars or parts ... not convinced that was ever a scrap yard. Recently went to one similar to that which had jag E Types & Porches amongst other exotics, i did a deal on some Land rover parts but he then made excuses why i should not take them that particular day....in other words he couldn't let them go just like all the other stuff. Think he ran a roofing company & they were all dead vehicle's discovered when doing roofing jobs. ..trees had grown everywhere just like this one.

The ford focus in there is no older than 2000 either and clearly would have ended up in there at least a few years after, quite strange really. Edit: Also according to the plate the BMW 735i has only been there since 2007 after it failed an MOT, so guessing this place was abandoned sometime around then.

I'd rather valuable parts were removed and lived on in another vehicle, than have them rust away to nothing. Like the Interceptor back window, those Range Rovers at the beginning etc. Give the best of those RR to Moggy at Electric Classic cars and he'd rebuild it with a Tesla powertrain.
