RARE! Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia Take-Off at Bern ✈ Great Turboprop Sounds!!

Budapest Air Service carried out a charter flight to Bern with the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia. HA-FAI is seen taking-off at Bern in Switzerland. This good old turboprop was built in 1989 and is very rare nowadays. The airliner is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW118 turboprop engines. Listen to the great sounds! I flew Pori - Helsinki - Pori (Karhu Aero flihgt in Finland) with BASe recently. While the aircraft was not the most shiny and modern, the crew was kind. And yes, the old turboprop sound was a great part of the thrill. I wish I can fly with them again soon.

An unusual sighting these days, this craft, among others nevertheless was pivotal in reshaping the regional airline sector in the 80s-90s, "paving the way" for small regional jets. If anything, the livery-less Weisswurst look could probably be dressed up by painting it with some of those green shades of the splendid Swiss landscape. Once again, Thanks & Cheers, Matt!

I remember these old birds when they once flew with what was then known as Continental Express, as well as various carriers flying under the Delta Connection banner. We've come a long way since then, because it was almost 30 years ago when I was watching both ATR-42's and Brasilia's at my then local airports (in Houston at that time - Hobby, Bush Intercontinental, and Ellington Air Force Base). My favorite modern turboprops are still the Q400 Dash-8, C-130J Hercules, and Airbus A400M tactical aircraft, but the Brasilia and SAAB 340/2000 models are among my classic favorites - not to mention the ever-rugged Convair 580 and de Havilland Twin Otter.

Thank you for your kind words and also for your interesting inputs. I also like Saab 340. It was often at Bern 20-30 years ago. Good old times. I especially like the Pilatus PC-12 which cannot really compared to the bigger passenger turboprops. But it is a stunning little aircraft capable to operate from small airfields. Maybe the Pilatus You mention - possibly stretched a little - could teach some Swiss lessons to the Cessna 208 "Caravan". And one thing is for sure: the PC-12 remains so far unsullied by those grotesque, cartoonish protursions that pass for "pods". Better keep it as is. And Houston IAH/KIAH is one of My Favourite Airports!

@@javierjosechavezbenitez3707 Hobby Airport was my most favorite down yonder, because it's a base for Southwest Airlines. 737's galore, but by 1995 it did have its share of turboprop service from COEX (Continental Express), Delta Connection, and American Eagle. An assortment of Brasilia's, SAAB's, and ATR's.

Matt my good friend, great video & have not seen one in quite a while. These are the planes that comair regional airlines started out( at CVG airport as hub) with when i was majoring in aviation in college in early 80's, i know the daughter of one of the two owners that started comair. I also know the first pilot they hired, # 1 on the seniority roster, lol, i belive they started with a fleet of 20 of these, then evolved through the years to the crj-50, & crj-70, i know several pilots who flew with comair, they sold out to delta, & delta ruined them & eventually they went out of business. Thank you Steve. I really like to hear your experiences. I remember Comair Regional. We had a Swiss Regional Airline called Crossair which often flew with Saab 340 to Bern 20-30 years ago. Nice memories of good old times. But Crossair was halfway sold to Swissair and as the famous airline went bankruptcy Crossair was even turned into the new National Carrier called Swiss. Finally it was all sold at bargain price to Lufthansa. It makes me sad to think about that. What a pity. Have a great day, God bless you.
