It’s such ashame. A great group - great songs - never got the credit or recognition they deserved. Those who are still living. Katherine, Juanita (?) stay blessed. Those who are deceased: Georgeanna, Gladys and Wanda - Rest in Peace.

Wanda, if you're reading my comment, just to let you know, you were my very favorite female Motown singer of all time. A little crazy they say you might have been, we all have our faults, to some degree. So sorry you went thru a lot, but you're still a trooper. Bless your heart.

I agree Michael Desantis, those marveletts were something else , I actually love watching them more than the supremes,their Dance moves was classy sensual choreography was on point,Wanda had that champagne sparkling voice plus she was so pretty, Katherine,Gladys was beautiful too but Wanda was the prettiest,don't mess Witt Bill was one of my favorite,I believe they would've had more hits if Berry Gordon hadn't been focusing so much on Dianna and the supremes,Mary Wilson said that she was glad he had the hots 4 Dianna ,that's why they got all the hits they Marveletts were better performances than the supremes bar none

Wanda, Florence Ballard and Ros Ashford (Martha and the Vandellas) were Motown for me.

Wanda was a hoot. She commanded the stage.

in the swinging time episode with marvelettes singing dont mess with bill , after the song they greet the supremes and Wanda gives Flo Ballard a high five "Hey girl" Flo shakes her head with a smile like she was saying to herself Wanda is the homegirl from the hood. Curious if some of wanda bad habits not showing for gigs alcohol abuse might have rubbed off on Flo.
@wallacewinter59072 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I read recently before the Supremes became a #1group at Motown but singing at gigs, that Gordy used Flo to sing as backup for the Marvalettes while on tour. Mary and Dianna were left back at Motown with nothing to do. So Wanda and Flo probably were close and Flo respected the other groups.

@@wallacewinter5907yes and both Gladys and Flo became super close/confidants, I’m sure that she expressed her feelings to Gladys of all the inside dirt within their group that Diana usually was the catalyst of. I think Diana had ill feelings towards Gladys due to Flo being friends with them and this may be one of the reasons that she tried to run over Gladys with her Mother’s car (imo)

These are real people with real issues just like you and me. Just a little more famous. And with that fame comes troubles. Money. Mostly squabbles over contracts, copyrights writing credits etc. Thanks for all the great music, especially all the motown and Detroit artists from the 1960s who were basically screwed by Gordy.... Made them all fight. I read somewhere that Barbara Lewis (not on motown, Atlantic I think), was paid only $400 for baby I'm yours..... Over royalties and name and song rights and writing credits.... Just ask Lamont D and Eddie and Brian Holland and the funk Brothers. There was millions to go around for all..... Pure greed

They had the most soulful sound out of the girls groups back then, I believe they were good,but when you have a supestar in a group like the supremes, they would have always come in second to Diane Ross, she was the Michael Jackson of the group, although if smokey would have been writing songs for them, they would have difinetly gave them a run for their money,I grew up in that era and honestly in those early days them and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas was putting out the most soulful hits, they related more to black folk back then, but yes they were more popular than the Supremes in the black community.
@bluenote824jones76 жыл бұрын
I strongly believe that this group had more top 20 hits than the supremes
@quality3336 жыл бұрын
sadly not true Please Mr Postman was their only number 1 hit in the US and in my opinion their worst song. Darling Forever should have reached top 20 but only made it to 78 Beechwood 45 did make it to 17 and dont mess with Bill to 7 . Its all about the number 1's Supremes had more so therefore they were household names although i didnt care much for their music
