A year later my old man bought a new Galaxy 500 fast back. I was young but I thought wow, what a car! He drove it until he bought a 67 Olds Cutlass. I wish I had it today. He later bought a 72 Chevelle and by gosh it's in my garage today. Lost my old man in 93 but have his old Chevelle.

I'm sorry for your lost. My sincere condolences. And by the bythe way,(I know it's going to sound rude, and I'm sorry,) the model name is Galaxie 500.

Had a '63 "woody" car had a weak undersized cooling system. Used to hand push the car to the street and wait for the first pickup truck to push start me (couldn't afford a new battery). Started fine at work for lunch and the rest of the day.

They assembled these in Australia in RHD from mid 1950s up until the late 1960's. My dad had a 1962 as shown in the ad, light brown with a white roof. By modern standars it was very sparse, no carpet, heater or even a radio. But with lots of chrome, it was very flash and stylish. It had a 221 V8 and two speed auto. The 260 was introduced a couple of years later. In about 1968 Ford Australia introduced a locally designed and built Fairlane model. It was based on the Australian Falcon, with a longer wheelbase and a different styling front and rear. The interior had a different dash and interior trim initially, too. The Australian Fairlane continued until about 2007, so they were around for nearly 50 years and were very popular for a long time.

My first car, bought around 1970. Paid $224. Sold about 3 yrs later for $225. 3 on the tree, 6 cyl. engine, busted heater and AM radio, nonworking instrument panel lights. But it got me around fine and I can't complain about depreciation!

In 1978 I bought a 63 Ford Fairlane for $40 from a buddy who won it in a poker game. We called it the Blue Bonnet. I keep it 6 months, never did a thing to it then sold it for $300. 😁

What did Ford badge the Taurus for a couple years? Then they renamed it the Taurus? I was thinking the 500 or the Fairlane 500? Thanks.

Apart from the drive train the compact fairlane shared nothing with the falcon... not even suspension parts...the fairlane was much bigger and hevier..not even panels or bumpers...the small block ford of 221 cubic inch motor was designed for the 62 fairlane then became the 260...windsor.

@@romemancer7905 "Howstuffworks" calls the 1962 Fairlane "essentially an enlarged Falcon" which is seen by the same cowl and windshield. I said based on, not the same.

From 1962 on all passenger cars shared what ford called the thunderbird roofline so they did have that in common...i get your point...the mercury commet was a falcon under the skin 2doors and 4doors...i owned a 63 futura with V8 and 4 speed what a sweet car...
