Such awesome machines! I thought to myself when you pushed both of them over the carpet at the same time 'That carpet is getting the massage of a lifetime right now!' lol Another great informative and entertaining video as always!

I think that the reason that the electrical cord hooks are on opposite sides of the handle between the UK and US versions is that we drive opposite sides of the road.😉

Hoover USA's model U4003 Custom Convertible, in shades of Taupe, was manufactured from 1973-75. While the USA company wouldn't begin adding production time digits to its serial numbers till 1987, Hoover UK began doing so circa 1967; so the '411' in your s/n likely indicates 'November 1974'. Here's an excerpt from a 2010 Vacuumland thread by Al, a UK contributor with the handle vacbear58, that offers some background and theory of the U4003-003 export: "It may have been with the closure of manufacture at Perivale to tide over supply while manufacturing facilities were established in other factories or perhaps a strike. The UK U4002 was launched here in 1974 (Yellow) and this model appears to slot in for a few months after its launch."

My mom had a Hoover upright from the 60s blue color with the head lamp. Tools slipped in from the back end and it sounded like this machine. It was a good vacuum. Then replaced it with an upright which was a decade 80s.

One of the things I've always found amusing about this style of Convertible was the headlight lens design. We went from a wide-open trapezoid lens in the 60s, to the "stoner-eyes" lens in the 70s. I guess even the engineers and designers at Hoover were smoking grass while listening to Bob Marley when they launched these machines. 😉😂

I have always looked at these style of vacuums (includes Eureka's Sanitaire design) if you look at the vacuum head itself from the side, it looks a bit like Moe Syzlak's head in profile from the Simpsons.

I’m in West Yorkshire and I have two vacuum shops near me one in Wakefield and one in Heckmondwike, I know the one in Wakefield sells on eBay, was it Wakefield floor care by any chance?

November 1974 Roger? Also, I've always wondered, could you permanently somehow keep the microswitch down for higher wattage cleaning all the time?
@ibaisaic2 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could put some tape over the switch to keep it on all the time.

Maybe the cord hooks are the way they are because Americans (and Canadians) drive on the right side of the road and the British (as well as Japanese and Australians) drive on the left. Joking aside, I wonder if you could convert...no pun intended...the American one with a Kirby fill tube and use Kirby's HEPA style bags with it.

Model U4003. Very good cleaner, though not as well built as the UK Seniors. I do prefer the hood style of this though compared to the avacado green one next to it. Was never keen onthat styleing, for all it was common and well known through shake n vac.

What’s is a suppressor in the vacuum and is that a bad part for a vacuum cleaner
@JJxRach2 жыл бұрын
It’s for the UK market. Back in the day, some cleaners would cause interference with TV’s and radio’s.

My Mother had this machine - she would Vacuum late at night when we were sleeping. The incredible noise naturally woke everyone up. Horrible machine …..Hoover ruled the world with vacuum cleaners…no longer the original Company…machines are now rubbish!!!
