@@carlbaker1517 Thanks, I’ve got a few bits to do this week back on the R53s ~ Which is a bit more up my street 😂

Personally I think you've made the right call. I'm sure some will disagree ( lots of keyboard warriors out there ), but you've given them the opportunity to save it themselves if they wish. IMHO don't get too hung up on negative comments - you are posting good content and doing what's right for you. 👍

I hate seeing these cars having been neglected. They're like old 911s were maybe 25 years ago, when many had fallen into disrepair and could be had cheap. I don't think first-generation MINIs will ever be as valuable as classic 911s, but they are becoming more desirable and valuable (the parts are certainly getting more expensive), so kudos to you and people like you for saving these cars before they're too far gone.
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
@@honestreviewer3283 Yeah some cars are beyond a point of saving, and I do think these R50 Generation cars are going to start to go up in price soon. However in this case the Cat N is a bit of a stumbling block.

I’d probably take it on to save it given the history of the car. Would take a while though with funds. Although I’d struggle with the rear quarter. Everything else would be ok, the oil leaks and clutch I’ve just done similar on my first Mini Cooper S. Would certainly do best to not break it for parts
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
@@SavingMinis More than welcome to DM me on instagram if you want to discuss. However it needs a bit of work to get it to roadworthy condition before even considering the cosmetic stuff. However it has history, a good story and it’s saveable if the right person wants to take it on.
@martinburbridge7545Ай бұрын
It is a nice spec mini and certainly not wrecked but it in better condition than the mini convertible ive brought to sell on in the better weather ive got the engine out with that to fix the leaks and to fit a new clutch
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
Easiest way to do the clutch is to remove the engine, and it’s a great time to do the seals and gaskets.

Good choice, mate. I wish more people would do the same and stop trying to play the speculation game with JCW parts for the Mini R50/52/53. Around my area (Barcelona/Spain), it's impossible to find anything at a fair price. And if it weren’t for Brexit, I’d probably be buying the parts I need to get my R53 JCW just the way I want it, instead of having to worry about people flipping them for profit.
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
Thank's for the comment - I've struggled last couple of weeks to make a choice but feel like this is the best of both - I am sure people will disagree but this gives the car a chance to live on as well. And JCW tax is real..... :)

I think what you're doing is very fair for the car :D I believe the rear seats are different from the R53. If you do break it, I'd probably be interested in so carbon bits 😂
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
@@johnoakley3493 Cheers, the R52 rears are different but they can be swapped with a bit of faffing around. I’m sure the guy that’s bought them will be all over it. He’s sound, they’re in a good place. And if it breaks I’ll cover it and let people know what’s available. 👍

Those seats! What a great package you have!

It looks like a car better suited to being used for parts - looks totally abused - a shame. I recently changed the discs/pads on my wife's Mini R56 and one of the retaining screws was seized. I drilled it through the middle and was surprised to find they (the screws) are hollow! I just banged a tight fitting torx in the middle of the drilled hole and unwound what was left of the screw with a ratchet - which seemed to have weakened its grip on the thread by the drilling.
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
@@derekgb3780 Yeah I think people gun them on and they just need to be hand tight - And they seize in over time. It’s always a Russian roulette with the retaining screws 😂

The Cat N is the biggest killer in my opinion. No matter how nice a shiny a car is, if it’s been categorised, it will always affect the resale value sadly

Yeah it didn’t matter to me either way, but certainly a mark on its history.

The car has had a hard life and no longer viable imo. It will however get stripped and save a few other cars from the scrap yard. It's not possible to save them all
@ThorMotorWerksАй бұрын
@@chrisyoung5573 Yeah I’m not sure If initially that didn’t come across before but I’m glad people can see it’s doable but it’s a labour of love, and if someone wants to take it under their wing they can. If not then as you say it’ll save a few more in the longer run.
