I was at this concert. I took my friend who wasn’t really as fan and came with me as a favour. She cried several times and agrees with me that this was the best concert we have ever been to. Her performance of “Didn’t we almost have it all” was spellbinding - she even threw in a joke- she was on top form and frankly she knew it! No gimmicks needed. The real deal

Bare Cubb: Consider yourself blessed to have been at this concert. I saw her when she was 14 doing background for her mom & @ the end of the evening her mother let her sing a solo & I just about lost my mind. At that tender age, you couldn't help but be mesmerized by her. Regrettably, I never got the opportunity to see her again.

Nice Performance, but when you see the date, 😕. Man, they wringed her dry, Clive didn't give her TIME to go to Rehab and get the help she REALLY needed! I'm the type person that is like, I was happy to see her present at award shows and stuff, I was happier to see her alive and never sing a note, then dead after performing all over the world!

I love Whitney and Clive is a snake, but the over touring was strictly Whitney. He couldn't make her tour, she decided the dates and everything. For the Bodyguard tour, she literally wanted to keep singing and it was the doctors who had to let her know her voice actually couldn't. She liked touring I guess.

CLIVE DAVIS is not a snake but a STAR MAKER! Handled the careers of many, including Whitney, Dionne, Aretha and more. Whitney had to fulfill dates booked. If Nippy had wanted to GO to rehab...she would have. Her habit was not Clive's fault (cigarettes and other things contributed to her vocal issues later. Now thats truth right there) Clive made sure that her money flowed......

Her clothes designers must have had a vision of the future because the open shoulder is what numerous stars are wearing today which has become quite boring to see now. This was 1998 and Whitney was one of the first and she looked awesome.
@pwrhouse81
@pwrhouse81 6 жыл бұрын
She sang over the track. She didn't have to fake it. What you saw/heard was what you got. It's funny, people say all these negative things about her and how she died, but there are other stars who died a similar way, and people say sympathetic/glorifying things about them. She had her struggles, but her contribution to the music/entertainment world is VERY significant and undeniable. It saddens me that people can sympathize with how some left the world, but make it seem like she should've been able to conquer her issues as if she was not made of the same flesh and blood other tragic Hollywood figures were. When you idolize and sympathize with the plight of people like Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, but vilify Whitney, that's terribly unfair. She gave much of herself just as they did, and paid the ultimate price, just as they did. If you're gonna say she wasted her talent, the same could be said for the others I mentioned earlier if you judge them as harshly as you judge her. I choose to believe that they ALL tried, but just couldn't overcome. I don't care to hear/read your opinion if you have never struggled with alcoholism, addiction, depression, molestation, abuse, etc., your thoughts or opinions carry no weight or credibility as far as I'm concerned. I understand the struggle because I struggle with sobriety and fight daily to stay sober. It's not easy, but I value my life enough to keep fighting. Some don't think it'll kill them, and some can't see the point in trying.

I couldn't agree more with your comments, pwrhouse81! Yet the reality is that we live in an unfair world where some are forgiven and others are persecuted for living with (and sometimes succumbing to) similiar personal struggles with addiction and sobriety. Although my heart aches on how her life ended in tragedy - I choose to remember and cherish Whitney's VERY signficant and undeniable contributions to the music/entertainment world (as well as her impact on me personally). Her legacy lives on and I'm elated that Whitney Houston continues to impact the music world 7 years posthumously with a Kyro remix remake of an 80's classic "Higher Love" that hit the airwaves in June 2019. It's no surprise that the song quickly topped the billboards across the nation and subsequently a music video was released :-)

Deshawn Crawley that's a bit harsh for my taste. I freakin' love both of those albums. Why be hard on the "estate"? I don't know them but they are HER family so I try not to be a hater. It must really suck going to work everyday to represent your loved one's legacy when they're in Heaven. So I just focus on the magic & the music. I am sure there's more to come. Energy like Whitney Houston owned doesn't go dim because she died. Just get some headphones, rock out & smile. ☮️

Steven Ciccone Whitney's live concerts solidified her status as the Queen of Pop/Soul.I'm not saying the albums were lack luster but us fans deserve to actually see her on stage at her best.if MJ can have all these rare concerts and rehearsal's posted up on here why can't new footage of the greatest singer in history appear instead of only a 4min or 30 second teaser its been 6yrs already....

Well that's a pretty detailed series of questions & postures so I will do my best to offer some comfort from my own research. 1. WH strongly disliked her music to be categorized as pop or soul or yellow or blue so let's just say Musical Deity or something of the sort. I would not want her to throw a lightening bolt at our asses! 2. Live performances where amazing. Did you ever see her live? Cyndi Lauper, said it very well when I saw her a few years ago. "Just be heha with me. Right now in this moment sir & put down youa phone". There was very little technology to record the shows in those days. The eras you long for are history. Not even her family can rewrite how those days were documented. 3. Whitney had different managers in the "Whitney era" and all but 1 of them are dead. With no disrespect, perhaps contact a medium & ask why they didn't do a better job recording that period. 4. Based on what I've read online & followed on social media from her family members, they are just coming out of the heavy weight of grief. They lost 2 family members back to back. We the public have no right to demand or criticize, in my opinion. 5. You can't compare the estates of MJ & WH. He was meticulous in his personal archives & his mother brought in a lot of Hollywood big shots to run a massive business that has boundless wealth. MJ has owned the Beatles publishing (in part) for many years. $$$$$$$ There are massive omnimedia tie- ins like the Cirque tours. Whitney Houston was a family business with her leading the way. 6. The world is a better place because she sang in it. Take hold of the music & be patient. I believe there will be more to come. I'd rather have a great audio track then a grainy distorted vid reel from a pool cam that shows Whitney the size of a Lego figure. 7. The person who posted this is no great sleuth. This vid was posted on the official Facebook page today. You have a beautifully maintained channel yourself. How did you find all those gems? You ARE one hell of a detective! Cheers 🎵🎼

Steven Ciccone I agree with you but ik for sure that there’s a recording, video or audio, out there of her unseen live performances. Every concert of the bodyguard era was professionally filmed. As for the Whitney era there has to be more unseen performances because we’ve seen many of her concerts and even some rare ones like her so emotional performance in 88 or so. And her family may love her but pat who is in charge of Whitney’s estate is iffy. She has been exposed for saying really disrespectful things about Whitney......

Yes, she never cared for lip syncing. Even when her voice was deteriorated. But all her peers lipped left and right. Her estate keeps recycling the same ol' stuff tho. Tired of Bodyguard era... She should've recorded way more - so her fans could've had more to choose from. Her estate ain't gon' make much come Forbes list. Cause everybody already got most of this footage.
@Sttephy30
@Sttephy30 7 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Clive Davis really sheltered her. I don't get how she had a voice like that but wasn't allowed to record more albums and better material. That's the reason why Mariah, Celine, Madonna outsold her. She barely was releasing material - unlike her peers who were releasing left and right. This is her weak spot imo, great live artist but weak studio artist. When Mariah drops dead, her estate got a shit load of material ready to release. Including her recordings from 1985 - 1988. Same with Madonna. Whitney was suppose to have sung "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" with Michael but Clive stopped her. I wish she would've recorded a Christmas and Gospel record during her early 90's era. I just don't get how someone with arguably the greatest popular voice in history - recorded such cookie cutter basic pop fluff material. Her catalog should've been better than Mariah's & Celine's with the right direction. I think her hits are more iconic than Carey's and Dion's but her overall catalog leaves one to desire so much. I'm just tired of I Will Always Love You and the same ol' same ol'. This is why Madonna called Whitney Houston mediocre. Because of her skills as a studio's artist. Not an actual vocalist. B/c she was the best in terms of singing but mediocre as an artist. Michael Jackson will be reigning supreme once again on the Forbes dead artist list. Hopefully Prince's team will be gaining higher points as well. Houston haven't been on Forbes since her death which is shocking bc she was such a massive superstar. But her estate ain't making no real groundbreaking money
@Sttephy30
@Sttephy30 7 жыл бұрын
Whitney didn't want to tour on that Bodyguard show. She hated it. She wanted to be a mother and relax. She destroyed her voice on that last tour. She sung EVERYTHING live and developed nodules. That's why she couldn't sustain the notes effortlessly as she use to by 1995. Her mother wrote about it in her book how Houston was overworked by Clive. On the road, is where her drug problems worsen as well. They nick named the tour, "Greatest Love of Crack world Tour" b/c how her and her brothers with Bobby Brown were getting high before and after shows. Clive pushed her to do that long ass world tour and she was never the same afterwards. She was pretty much done after 1994. She soldiered thru like a machine tho. They had trouble getting her to record after Bodyguard because she was DONE with it all. They had to pressure her to sing the little songs on Waiting To Exhale. Babyface said he wrote those songs for her but she insisted to not sing them. At-least she was still up to par for the movies tho. And they were classics imo. Acting was meh but the actual films are 90's classics. Mariah Carey is a studio's artist out the ass. That's her nature. She goes crazy in there. MC has tons of material we've never heard: including rough drafts, un-edited material, full length songs that dates all the way back to 1985 (she was recording music bf she even met Brenda or Tommy) and of course all the undubbed footage still haven't been released yet as well (noticeably every one is waiting for her 1993 Thanksgiving Undubbed special). But yes, Mariah has so many registered songs that haven't been released to the public yet. Including her version of "Where Are You Christmas". Mariah's catalog is much better than Celine's and Whitney's imo. She was a better artist than both of them. But yes, she has filler songs as well. Most artist do. It all comes down to an opinion tho. Mariah can get pretty repetitive as well.

She always made sure you knew she was singing! Even if it was over a track, she wanted you to know that she was doing it live. So few singers today know or care. The last of the truly greats.

Sebastian Stormborn she’s sung with a playback for the rare times she did the high notes at the end live. She lets the playback sing the really high ones and then her live vocals come in for the notes she was able to sing (still high tho).

Rickie Walton yeah but you could count on one hand how many times Whitney lip synced it was a very rare thing times were she should of lip synced even at her worst she didn’t lip sync but singers like Mariah Carey and others etc you can’t even count on 10 hands cause they lip synced plenty of times

Her voice here was thick and strong and it was 1998. Her voice in 1997 Constitution Hall Concert was kind of thin and weak compared to her voice in this concert. I wonder how broke she would be after she finished the 1997 Constitution Hall concert with that condition of her voice. However, her Voice always was great and unbeatable !

Klion Smith You obviously doesn’t know what a coloratura is. Whitney had to big of an output to be a coloratura. Along with that her voice was too heavy. Coloratura’s have the lightest of voices which Whitney did not.
