We saute these in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, bay leaves, peppercorns and a little salt in my hometown, the Philippines.

Thoroughly enjoy “Seed Stories”. The history and back story of seeds is always fascinating! Michelle does such a good job narrating these stories, too! Thanks! Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA - 4/6/2021.

We grew these last year. Trust me when I say they are better when picked young. If allowed to mature the pods become hollow and peppery. If you miss picking them young you might as well leave them to grow for the beans inside to develop.

Wow, have grown your Chinese yard long beans for years, had no idea the leaves are edible, such great production for when it's way up in the 90's, sweet potato leaves are also edible when it's too hot for things like lettuce.

Seed stories are a true enjoyment to watch, learn and become more motivated to add them to the garden. Thank you.

I had no idea I could eat the leaves! I’ve grown them for a few years now and they are prolific.

I grew these for the first time this summer. Unfortunately something ate most of the plants just a few weeks after they sprouted. But just a couple days ago (beginning of September), I noticed several long pods hanging from the top of a chia plant. I stared for a free minutes really confused because chia doesn't have pods. Then I remembered the long beans I planted in the section next to where I planted chia. Looks like one plant survived and ignored it's trellis and made its way over to climb up the chia instead.

My grandparents favorite bean! My mother use to cook them often too. I keep forgetting to add to my garden. Maybe this year.

They've been very low producing for me, maybe because it's too cold here in Berkeley. I'll try again in July this year...

Yes these really do thrive in very hot climates and if not given full sun and consistent warmth, they will be a bit less productive

Love growing these, but found them very tough unless cooked for a long time or picked very young. Any thoughts from more experienced growers?
@RareSeedsBC3 жыл бұрын
You do want to pick them once they reach 18 inches!
@johnjones15343 жыл бұрын
@@RareSeedsBC Thanks! Certainly sounds like the right advice. I think it's just a gardner's nature to see those beautiful long pods and want to see how long they'll get.

for some varieties, you can grow one plant and the vine can grow as long as twenty or thirty feet in good soil.

You can dry long bean leaves give to cat's instead of give them catnips.

Lily Li, thank you! Wow, didn't know about the leaves being a good substitute instead of catnip, for cats. Sounds nutritious for them, too! Thanks for sharing!! Awesome info! 👍😁🐱🎉🎉
