I like how he prefers a rusty grater rather than a new one lol. Maybe the rust on it is the secret ingredient XD Also there's a lot of people who say they wanted to live like this guy. Living a simple life is good, but you're bound to have a lot of problems. I used to live like this with my grandparents before and let me tell you it was not easy. We constantly have to worry about money. When we get sick, we did not go to a hospital, instead we went to the local "healer". We have electricity but we have to save it so we usually use kerosene lamps. These things fill your nose with black stuff if you sleep near it. Not to mention the fire hazard it brings. Sanitary can go down the hole as well. The dogs and cats around us would just poop just about anywhere. Not only that, the upkeep of the surrounding area is high. Dried leaves from trees needs to be swept everyday. Weeds grow like there's no tomorrow. You're lucky if your house was built with thatched leaves. However, those decay if not changed every few years. Those thin metal roof are cheap and last a long time, but whenever it rains, it's loud as fuck. Good luck sleeping at night when it is raining. At least the food we eat is from our backyard. We grow papayas, mangoes, coconuts, and some vegetables. The only ingredient we buy is meat and some seasonings. Even then its rare that we actually have a cooked food with meat. Twice a week, I had to go with my grandfather to look for fallen twigs and dried wood for cooking. If we lack some ingredients, we visit our neighbors to ask some since they also have their own variety of vegetables. Worst part is, all of these is not by choice. Its just how life is back there. Looking back at it, it was a nice and simple lifestyle. It was not until my mother got me to immigrate that I was able to see a whole new world. I'm not against this kind of life, but if I were to choose, then I wont go back. Though I still occasionally visit the place I grew up in, just to reminisce the past.

I can tell you about that type of life I am from st Thomas and not far from where this man living. That the same way of life I grow up on.. My father even make his own grater. That take days.. Life was simple but fun at times. We rase our own meat like goats , pigs and chicken.. And the rain drops on the zink roof was nice but the house always leaking and even over the bed. Have to set pam to catch the water..

I grew up in a girls home in Hartford, CT in the 80's, I was always in the kitchen with the greatest cook named Buzzy, he was much like Mokko, he was the first that ever bothered with teaching me some tricks. The green plantain is used because it has a lot of starch in it, which act as a thicken agent. It the ripe plantain the starch is converted into sugar(hence the sweetness), so flour or some other thicken agent would be needed to get the porridge to the right consistently.
