Except when using my tablets or phones away from desk, bedside or reading lounge chair, EVERYTHING in my home uses wired Ethernet. No lag, no congestion, no signal strength drop…. EVERY area in my house has at least two cable drops (RJ45 keystones), with minimum CAT7 cabling (*). All cable is run in conduit (**) for ease in repair and future upgrade. And I have three RPi-4 running as Wi-Fi endpoints to cover weak-signal areas, and as “portable” Wi-Fi (using a 10Ah pack). * i got freaky lucky one day at a scrapper (scrap-yard). I found seven (7!) 8,000’ reels of Plenum-rated CAT7. Brand-New, never used, never opened… $30 per reel. This was just as the pandemic shut-downs had started, the owner was anxious to draw down his inventory. Yeah, freak luck. ** i often stop at commercial or industrial construction sites to ask the foreman if i can scrounge the scrap-pile before it is piled into dumpster (I’ve never met a foreman who will let you climb INTO the dumpster.. it’s important to get the stuff while it’s still on the exposed scrap-pile). This is where i get my conduit (among other things). Two to five foot long Schedule-80 stuff is common as dirt.

@@leonardopapantoniou4227 I'm not sure about every Pi OS out there, but RoPieeeXL that I'm using can pass-trough MQA info to the DAC. Using an RPi4 you don’t need a HAT, you can output via USB to a USB DAC. Just get a FLIRC case or a heat sink. The sound is as good as most HAT DAC’s. Ok great. So the USB 2 is the best output for connecting to an external DAC. Is there a Hat that can provide an even better output? I don't want a DAC in the raspberry pi system, just improved output. I'm not really sure about why some outputs are better than others so if you have a video explaining that or can recommend one, that would be great. I'm planning to connect the pi to a denifrips Aries 2 and then to a sugden a21. Is the pi unbalanced in a system like that? If so do you have an alternative recommendation? If you can't get round to replying, no worries, I will find the answers to these things, I'm just wondering what your perspective might be.

@iiWiReviews3 жыл бұрын
Hm, don't know why. Does your DAC support hardware MQA unfolding? It has to if it is to unfold the MQA stream because no Pi software has software unfolding (that's what Tidal app on Android is doing and it tops at 96kHz). When used over Pi, DAC has to do it and then up to 192kHz is possible. If DAC can't do MQA unfolding than only way to get it to work is true software of the official Tidal app.

Also would MyConnect be able to handle the Amazon Music library information? Lastly, after doing a little research I came across discussions about UPnP? Can you explain how that integrates with the Pi streaming device, the operating systems, and the control apps? Thanks so much!
@iiWiReviews4 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, Amazon HD can't work with Pi because Amazon keeps its API closed to independent developers and their apps. For example, my favorite app called mconnect works with Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz... by integrating their APIs with the app. The same goes for these Pi OS-es, Volumio or Moode... Amazon takes a different route, their API is closed to the public and this kind of open support is impossible at the moment. I don't know why is Amazon doing this but that's the current state of things. When it comes to UPnP, it's a set of universal network protocols that most of these third-party apps use to connect our phone/PC to Pi or some other streamer. Most of the other ways to connect devices over a network are proprietary and belong to one or the other company, but UPnP is an open standard and that's why independent developers can use it for their streamers/players/phone apps.

Can a Raspberry Pi 3 decode MQA? What about the Allo USBridge Signature?
@iiWiReviews3 жыл бұрын
It can only pass trough the MQA stream to a DAC that's capable to do a hardware decoding.

@@iiWiReviews oh thanks so that would mean that I would have to use the USB input of my DAC as only the USB input can decode and render. The I2S input is only capable of rendering. I hear the Raspberry pi is limited to 192/24 and cannot decode higher than 192/24 so DSD might not be possible? Is this true?

Great video! I was wondering if you don’t consider using Kodi as a music streamer as it can also be used for movies. Thanks

Hi, congrats for this Review. What's the point of having a PC with solid state hard drive? Is it More robust?

Great video. Not only on this but On others dedicated to the Pi, what was mentioned, and attracted my attention was the price point at which you could get it. If I recall correctly, it was said that it cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 to 60$. Now I just can’t seem to find anywhere those prices. 45 + 20 + 30. Now the links redirects to publications with higher prices. None is less than 130$ just for the Pi !! 😧

Thanks! Unfortunately, chip shortages that plague whole industry affected Pi prices too.

@@iiWiReviews with today's Pi cost, it doesn't make any sense to go Pi route, there is $150 WiiM or even $95 model that just works out of the box.

can I stream from OneDrive in volumio? I do it a lot with bubbleupnp through foobar on a windows desktop, which I would like to replace by a raspberry pi. moreover, if yes, do you know if its stable? good video, btw. the best out there on basics. thanks!
