I heard the Pi foundation tried to get 1GB on the Zero 2 W but was not able to quite get there. It is a big advantage moving to ARMv7 processor though as a lot of projects struggle to keep compatibility with the ARMv6 Archtiecture. The Zero 2 W basically is a cut down Raspberry Pi 3 from my understanding as it uses the same processor. The original Pi 3 was 2.4GHz only. I think 3B introduced 5GHz

Long time ago I had a talk with Eben about the Zero series being hard to iterate due to size constraints of the board. Knowing that I was quite surprised we ended up with a new Zero with the same form factor
@EsotericArctos3 жыл бұрын
@@notenoughtech Agreed. It was pretty great to see them move it to an Arm7 processor. It does make the Zero 2 a lot more versatile and able to run more current code. It was really good to see it come in the same form factor for sure

Great comparative video. Even though I've built my own PC systems for almost 30 years now, I'm still a noob when it comes to technical specs (I've described building your own PC as Lego for adults in that you basically just snap parts together following "kit" directions). I appreciate computer tech engineers, builders and detail specialists who can explain the various aspects in easier to comprehend terms with as minimal use of jargon/geek-speak as possible. With Raspberry Pi it gets even more elegant, accessible and simpler. I have an 8 gig Pi 4 and a Pi 400 and find them endlessly fascinating. Thank you.

Can you run and get current draw of 2W with one threaded benchmark to see if it is more efficient than the 1W with similar load?
@notenoughtech3 жыл бұрын
In a single core benchmark, you will end up with 2 time shorter benchmark time over Zero W, so you will be more efficient as long as you can accommodate the increased current requirement. Unless you are running constant load, for unlimited time, then Zero2W would be a better option in that circumstances.

tbh I had a hard time finding usecase for Pi Zero, though it works great to turn your wired printer into a wireless one. I tested with tinylinux though as it has low memory footprint and boots really fast. I guess they'll bring bcm2711 on Zero once the cost gets cheap. lowest density lpddr4x should be bigger than ddr2
@andreamitchell47583 жыл бұрын
You mean for octoprint? I heard it could work for octoprint without a camera but that even without a camera it is still not recommended for octoprint and that a R pi 3 model b is the lowest you should use I wonder if the new pi zero w 2 will work well for octoprint with or without a camera
@notenoughtech3 жыл бұрын
That's the subject I'm working on already
@haziqsembilanlima3 жыл бұрын
@@andreamitchell4758 oh, not octoprint but CUPS. the idea is to let Pi Zero broadcast itself as a host with wired-only printer, essentially turning your old but gold printers into a wireless for household/office use. I did that with tinylinux to conserve memory. extra tinylinux packages were wireless and cups (afaik hplip package was included too, forgot). works nice but scrapped midway as scanner functionality isn't part of CUPS. maybe after CUPS successor reaches stability (I heard it has scanner support) I'll resume. I haven't figured out the best way to power the Pi to reduce clutter. maybe a PoE hat will do the trick but I'm not sure if it gives networking access but that's only ideal if the printer is static and sit close to router/switch
