Nice one. Good to see someone take the rat chop concept from the trial stage to a quality process.

Great video! I’ve got 120 of the new clanrats to paint this winter, looking forward to using the speed paints as they look very satisfying to use. Thanks for the tutorial

Wonderful! They can be very fun to use. Let me know how it goes. I would love to see how they turn out.

Great painting content! I appreciate the production values (and super satisfying sound effects when you squeeze out drops of paint!). Also the technique you teach is simple and fast, but produces great results! Can’t wait to paint up some shaven this way, and can’t wait to watch some more of your videos. Good luck growing the channel!!!

Thank you very much! The sound effects was something I was playing around with. I found it really satisfying while editing and I just decided to keep doing them. Glad someone appreciated it. XD I would love to see your results when you give it a whirl. The poll on the community tab on what I paint next is leaning in towards more Skaven so far. Probably going to try and crank out the entire Skaventide box in one weekend.

The oil wash I saw coming and it worked as fantastic as I expected. But to see how adding just a few small highlights and details changes so much was unexpected from a speedpaint tutorial. I also learned that you can take off oil paints with a dry sponge. Great video.

Thank you. I'm glad you got something from the video. The way I see it, there are two ways you can approach speedpainting. A. Paint it as fast as you can to get it over with. B. Paint it as fast as you can to get through the "boring" bits, and then spend the time you save making it really pop with extra attention to details, highlights, etc. I lean towards the latter usually. Rat Chop is kind of a bit of both.

Bro. I am about to start my miniature painting journey in a few weeks and having an in depth background in Contractor Painting as I work for a Paint company, I have always been confused how the different types of paints used in the hobby cover and of course cure when dried. The idea of putting a miniature with the paint cured on it on the top of the bottle is friggin genius. I will for sure do this to my paint sets upon arrival and as i don’t see any paint swatches than demonstrate a color when it is cured and diluted to different opacities.

I was equally excited when I first saw swatch bottle toppers. The ones I use are Puck the Dragon from Tabletop Foundry. It was an STL file that I 3D printed. I used to prime the caps and paint over them. That worked well too but these show speedpaint better.

A lot of people spending WAY too much on superglue. =p The fine applicator tips are great too.

Love the video, but for my personal taste I would thin the red and black for the cloak with some speedpaint medium to get a more faded washed out look.
@RabidHobbiesАй бұрын
Definitely a choice you could make. I wanted a really intense bright red, akin to Bold Pyrrole red from Monument Hobbies. For the black that might be a good idea. I am not really a fan of Grim Black overall. I feel like it is one of the less consistent paints in the Speedpaint 2.0 range.

‘Backwards knee’ my brother… it’s called a heel. 😅

I guess that is where the heel is if you extend the bone. I usually associate the heel with touching the ground but that makes sense.

Nice video. I find the Pro Acryl to be a thinner consistency.. how much do you thin it out for routine painting?
@RabidHobbies2 ай бұрын
Not much. It is already very thin. Sometimes I use it nearly straight. I usually only thin significantly for airbrushing.

They do make water mixable oil paints
@RabidHobbiesАй бұрын
Have you tried oil washing with them? Part of the reason they work is the acrylic uses water as a solvent and the you don't interact with the oil or mineral spirits. Also the oil can be wiped away with mineral spirits hours later. I would be curious if they would work the same way.
@SLiiQmediaАй бұрын
@RabidHobbies I haven't tried with regular oil paint, but it seems to work similarly. I'm in the middle of trying it for the first time right now, albeit a slightly different application. I let the oil paint sit for about 40 minutes, and then it wiped off nicely with just a dry makeup sponge.
@RabidHobbiesАй бұрын
@SLiiQmedia interesting. Water based would reduce the need for nasty solvents. Is there anywhere where you can share images or before and after? Any progress should would be helpful. I assume it wouldn't work for Speedpaints 1.0 as they reactivate but I am curious how clean it comes off and how the capillary action works in the recesses.
@SLiiQmediaАй бұрын
I was about to mention the capillary action! It's definitely better than nuln oil, but it does have a different surface tention than regular oil wash. As soon as I figure out my recipe I plan on posting a video about it. Still experimenting right now though. I am trying shading under a yellow contrast paint like in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/baabl4lmlrmCZ9ksi=1DIstMeVK9wqjE9l So far, it has worked super similarly, without even using any mineral spirits. And plus (I haven't tried this yet, but) the guy at the store told me you can even use mineral spirits with the water mixable to get that extra low surface tension if you want to Haven't gotten to the black oil wash yet
@RabidHobbiesАй бұрын
Yeah the low surface tension is due to mineral spirits being a non polar fluid whereas water is polar. This is what tends to give the annoying tide marks and pulling out of the recesses that sometimes happens with water bases washes. I'll take a look.
